Simply the best of everything!
This is the busiest and best place in town and I have lived here for 50 years and been innumerable times. Excellent food, excellent service and fabulous indoor and outdoor dining right on the ocean and in a great hotel to boot. Any sourpuss who gives it a bad review is obviously a crank impatient perfectionist unable to stand any very minor glitch in their life. Sure when you go to a place as popular as this which is liable to be packed and busy, occasionally there will be a holdup but and normal person will really appreciate everything about it…the people, the view, the food and the ocean. You absolutely cannot beat it.

The hotel is beautiful, clean and the staff is well trained and friendly. We decided to treat ourselves to a Valentine's Day weekend and drove up from Long Island. The first night was perfect and we stayed at the hotel for dinner and drinks at the bar. Everything was better than expected. The second night, we changed out minds on dining out and decided to stay in and hoped for a repeat of night #1. It was almost impossible to get anywhere near the bar, never mind get something to eat. We were required to valet park out car, which is now blocked in and we had to wait to retrieve it. For us it was a wake-up call, so if you do decide to stay here, plan ahead because assuming you can take the elevator down to the bar and have a relaxing evening, is not an option. When you're spending $300 for a room here, there is a glitch in the way things work here.
Be the first to Reply1606 is Better than Ever
I reviewed our lunch in 2018, giving it 5 stars. Since then we have gone back to many times. Friends and I celebrate each other's birthdays at the breakfast buffet ( note:you really must post this on your website as it is a great option to the regular breakfast and brunch at 11:00) We have always gone to this imple, but delicious buffet but today two of us opted to order from the breakfast menu. I had the croissant sandwich..wow! Filled with two fried eggs, sliced tomatoes, spinach, melted cheese and topped with slices of bacon and aoili sauce. This meal in itself is served with very unique fried potatoes, almost potato chips, topped with sauteed peppers and onions. My daughter exclaimed that the Eggs Benedict were the best she's ever had, and she is a world traveler. And the best part is that 1606 has managed to do all this and keep the prices reasonable.

Love the Beauport Hotel's 1606 Restaurant & Oyster Bar. The Restaurant is always great whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Lobby Bar is like a "Homecoming" and the Oyster Bar has been such a wonderful addition, both bars have great (and unique) vibes. The Staff and Leadership are phenomenal, always attentive, and there help to make each experience special. We went in last night around 5PM with another couple, both bars were booming. We were able to find 3 seats at the Lobby Bar and shortly thereafter expanded to 4. We met another couple from Western MA and had a wonderful time, we went in with some friends and we all left with new friends! Both drinks and food were excellent. I vowed to try something new, so I ordered the grain bowl with blackened salmon and absolutely loved it. Was a delicious and light combination of kale, farro, roasted mushrooms and brussel sprouts. My husband ordered his new favorite Korean chicken sandwich. He usually orders a side salad and last night chose the fries. We had never seen them before; the fries were unusually shaped and out of this world delicious! Thankfully, he shared them with all of us, everyone raved about them! The funny thing is that I don't order fries, normally not a fan yet must share I would rate them a 10+!! I also had to stop eating and took half of my dinner home, wanted to be sure I saved room for Beauport's Espresso Martini's - always consistent and delicious...one of the best around! Thanks for a fun night, great food, and beverages! I’m looking forward to watching the Pat's game today with our friends...and new friends too as they will be joining us to watch the game before they head home! PS: Also LOVE seeing the Christmas|Holiday decor, it's SO BEAUTIFUL and thank you for keeping it up!
Be the first to Replygo for a sunset dinner
went for an early dinner which came with an extra bonus of watching the sunset. Food and drinks with friends. great setting to catch up. Food was good, service great. They did not rush us and when we had been at our table for awhile offered to move us to a spot in front of the lobby fireplace with coffee
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding Family Brunch!
We had a table of 8 including a 1 year old for brunch after Thanksgiving with a reservation at 8AM. We were seated immediately and had excellent, understated service from Gabriel who was patient with all members of the family including the baby. The food was excellent, I had the duck confit hash which is a first for me. Since I love duck, this was a treat for breakfast! It was cooked very well, not dried out as duck can be nor too oily. The poached eggs were also just right with yolks that were gooey but not overly so, yum! The real treat were the toasted paprika potato chips which were thin, crunchy around the edges and soft and not dried out - wonderful! Food service was delivered to the table a bit slow, but not unduly so. The meal was enjoyed by all with a spectacular view of Gloucester harbor - we had a corner table with glass on two sides. The price was reasonable for a venue and meal of this type - we'd visit again next time we're in the area and recommend 1606 for a fine dining experience for any meal.

Restaurant had an extremely strong seafood smell. Granted, it’s a waterfront restaurant, but I have visited many seafood restaurants. Need better ventilation system. Waitstaff very friendly. Booked online reservation for our anniversary. Had to tell waitstaff… should have been noted and passed along to her prior to seating us. We did receive a complimentary mini bottle of Prosecco. Secondly, we should NOT have been seated in the diningroom next to two loud and extremely obnoxious tables of rude people!!!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food and Beautiful Views
Excellent food, friendly staff, and beautiful ocean views. The chefs and waitstaff were very accommodating to my dietary restrictions and essentially allowed me to build my own plates. Our last night there, I had lobster meat and salad and my husband had the haddock casserole. Both of our meals were truly outstanding. Although it was a bit chilly, we ate on the outdoor deck and it was totally worth it to enjoy the fresh ocean air and beautiful views. Our waiters made it more comfortable by bringing us blankets and heat lamps. I am so happy we chose to eat at 1606 and when we come back to Gloucester we will definitely be eating there again. Thank you to our waiter Jimmy and the rest of the staff for giving us a wonderful experience!

Fabulous view from dining on outside patio. Enjoyed 1606 burgers cooked to perfection, French fries cold and unseasoned (would not order again), cole slaw was very good. Waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional.
Be the first to ReplyGreat evening.
Arrived early evening. Within 10 minutes, table was ready and we were seated on the deck with a beautiful view of the water. Vanessa ( hope I have that right) was our server. She help guide us for our menu choices. Seared halibut and fish cake/ balls. Our hope was a beautiful sunset, however, clouds and the impending rain had a different plan. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening, dinner and adult beverages.
