a Mano San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Great Italian spot in the heart of Hayes Valley.
Always has a lively bustling atmosphere. Getting a table is tough at peak times so I advise getting there a little early. Grabbing a spot at the bar is always a great option. Diverse menu with something for everyone. Perfect for a night out with friends.
Great outdoor seating.
Love the dog and people watching. Great food and service, too.
I really like a mano's.
It's what I would expect from a good Italian restaurant. It's a great place to invite friends for good vibes, food, drinks and service. The staff and management are kind and accommodating. The outdoor seating is just as relaxing as the indoor space or better. The drinks are made with skill and finesse. Everything at a Mano has impressed me. Highly recommend
A reliable delicious place for Italian food.
Always busy but never impossible to get a seat since COVID. Seating outside is so nice on a sunny day. The price is very fair for how good the food is. They have a good variety of dishes to run through and we've never been bored eating here.
I came in for an early dinner, a bit after 5.
Not many people yet in the place, so no mad-rush effects of a full house. My server was friendly and efficient, so good marks to him. He quickly brought my gem lettuce salad and order of focaccia and tapenade--and I thought these were very good. Then the pasta: orecchiette broccolini. The hand-made orecchiette were nicely made and well cooked. The sauce seemed to be finely chopped broccolini and some additional broccolini pureed in some olive oil. I did not detect any chili or garlic, and precious little fennel sausage (at this rate, a link would be sufficient for the entire evening's service). A couple of spots of pecorino brightened it up--but the rest of the dish was so bland that could have even used a bit of salt. So: edible. And the wine: I noticed the pours were small, and I see other complaints of this here on Yelp. I had a glass of grillo--about 3 ounces, and about 4 ounces of montepulciano. The menu doesn't say how large a pour is, so I figured that a 4-ounce pour was A Mano's standard. I see from comments here that it's supposed to be 6 ounces, which, considering the prices, is more appropriate. When I got home, I got out a glass I have very similar in size to A Mano's wine glasses and measured in 6 ounces of water--so getting nearish full. A Mano's pours did not come up even to the halfway mark. So, I really doubt if I will return.

Walk-in only: I recommend getting there right before the 5/6pm rush if you're planning on dinner. This was the perf spot for a girls night! I'd say the seating is pretty tight-knit and it can get a bit hectic. As for the food, I would say that there wasn't anything special - it was pretty on par. * Appetizer: Burrata (Funghi Conserva & Crostini) -- this was pretty good, loved the mushroom pairing. * Pastas: Bucatini All' Amatriciana & Maltagliati Basil Pesto -- the sauce flavors are not too strong on both these pastas. Honestly, the cocktails & dessert we ordered were really good and refreshing. * Cocktails: Capitals & Octavia -- if you like the fruitier/lighter drinks. * Pistachio Ice Cream - so creamy and not too sweet.

Update: got food poisoning, do not recommend! Me and my boyfriend both got sick following eating here (not sure if it was the soggy pizza or the salad)!

visited a mano around 5:00pm on a thursday and we were seated right away (got crowded around 6) there's both inside and outside seating - interior is bright and well decorated and gives off a more casual feel good variety of pasta, pizzas, and appetizers. some interesting cocktails if you drink. // rigatoni bolognese ($22) // i got the rigatoni bolognese which had sausage. the portion was decent, a little on the smaller side. i thought the flavor was good, although i found the dish to be quite salty. service was efficient and friendly. our waiter came to check in several times and asked us how our meal was. a good place to grab dinner with friends. it gets loud in the inside though. cute shops around to walk to in hayes valley

Honestly the only thing that was really worth was the mushroom pizza. The bread was delightfully crunchy. The creamy sauce with mushrooms had an addictive umami flavor. The pesto pasta & short rib ravioli were decent but not really good. Portions were pretty small but that's expected for a popular Italian restaurant in SF. It's cute for a hang out with friends or a date but I probably wouldn't come back.
Love this place, in the heart of Hayes Valley, good food
Love this place, in the heart of Hayes Valley, good food and atmosphere and good service for smaller groups 4 or under. I can't recommend it for bigger groups, we went (10 people) and a lot of us got wrong items and some didn't event their order. It looked the staff were not synced well together and a manager kept interfering with the waiter on our table but she wouldn't help either. If she had left the waiter do his job he would've done great.

had the gem lettuce salad, salsiccia pizza and lamb rigatoni. the pizza was amazing but was a little disappointed by the rigatoni. felt the sauce was not super flavorful. fun atmosphere and vibes!
Food is good, but the service is terriner.
Expert to not server even when the restaurant is empty

Came with a big group and had a good experience but realize I didn't love the dishes. Meatballs - 4/5. Great tomato sauce. Chicory salad - 2.5/5. Boring and forgettable Margarita pizza - 3.5/5. Thin and decent Funghi pizza - 4/5. Good mushroom and cheesy flavor. Salsiccia pizza - 2/5. Absurdly olive heavy, I had to pick them out to eat it. But good if you're an olive lover. Orechette - 3.5/5. Solid, nice small kick Agnolotti - 3.5/5. Nice cheesiness, meat could have more flavor. Paccheri - 2.5/5. Capers and clams create a dominant flavor profile that didn't work for me.

A Mano is ALWAYS the perfect fix whether you're craving Italian or simply in Hayes Valley looking for a bite--they will hit home every single time. Such a cute date spot, family meal, work dinner, whatever it might be! Couldn't recommend it more!

Nestled in the heart of San Francisco, a Mano offers a delightful dining experience with a charming bar and comfortable main seating area. The thoughtful hospitality begins at the bar, where the staff's gesture of complimentary bread while waiting for a friend sets the tone for a warm and welcoming evening. The Focaccia bread, had flavor and perfect texture. It was a great appetizer. The Radiatori pizza emerges as a star on the menu, showcasing a harmonious blend of cream and mushroom flavors. Not too heavy-- it was delicious. Can't wait to have it again! The Burrata, accompanied by delectable mushrooms and perfectly toasted bread, is a testament to a Mano's commitment to quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation. The Margherita pizza was okay-- we went with it because previous reviews favor it over the Funghi pizza. The straightforward combination of fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil might not steal the spotlight, but it caters to those who appreciate the classics. The overall ambiance at a Mano, whether at the lively bar or in the main seating area, contributes to a pleasant dining experience. The attentive service and thoughtful gestures, such as complimentary bread, elevated the restaurant's charm for us!
I was pretty impressed by this Italian restaurant - cozy
I was pretty impressed by this Italian restaurant - cozy restaurant with food perfect for sharing. My friends and I decided to come for a post work dinner and had a great time. The staff started us off with complimentary focaccia which was sooooo delicious. We then decided to have the burrata to share. I really loved the flavor of the bread and mushrooms together - definitely something I'll be replicating at home. For mains we shared the margarita pizza and mushroom pasta. I liked the pasta the most - it had great flavors and so much cheesy goodness. The pizza was great as well but nothing too special (I did love the thin crust). The restaurant itself is quite cozy with lots of seating and the wait time is not too bad if you put yourself on the wait list on time. The staff was also very friendly and proactive with checking in on us.
The food and service here were amazing.
We had the most wonderfully attentive waiter. Every item he recommended was perfect. The cauliflower with chili and lemon is a must have. The arancini and meatballs were outstanding. Do not miss the bucatini all'amatriciana and the rigatoni agnello. Both were delicious.
I get really mad when my friends suggest we eat anywhere
I get really mad when my friends suggest we eat anywhere besides A Mano. I wish I could cook like this for myself at home.

When in Hayes Valley, this is a solid choice for Italian food. Great indoor/outdoor seating and attentive staff. The food portions are perfect size!
Party of four light lunch on Friday.
We happened upon a Mano walking around the Hayes Valley district. All of us were just moderately hungry, but we wanted to enjoy the beautiful weather with a light lunch and a Mano was the perfect choice. It wasn't very busy and we were able to choose a seat in their outdoor dining section, which was very comfortable and well protected from traffic and pedestrian flow on the sidewalk. We opted to order a few items and share, which included the Chicken Polepettine (meatballs) and cauliflower from the antipasti portion of the menu and the mushroom pizza from the pizza portion of the menu. The server said the meatball appetizer portion was 3 meatballs, but they added a fourth so each of us could have one - they were perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful and served in a mildly spicy marinara sauce with 2 toast points. The cauliflower appetizer included roasted cauliflower with a mildly spicy lemon chili sauce that complimented the cauliflower perfectly. For the main, the mushroom pizza had a very thin crust with a lot of flavor from the mushrooms, shallots, sage crema, and garlic - a great combination of flavors. Lastly, we also had a small dog with us and the server brought him a bowl of water, which was a very nice additional level of service. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Bought a reservation for a party of 6 and I was told they called and let the person know that they can only do a part for 5. Couldn’t do the reservation.
