Amazing sandwich.
I never had the original but I didn't want to wait in line nor did I want to leave my neighborhood. I thought they would be participating in the 20% off discount Tuesdays throughout January but they actually DON'T. So if anyone was wondering, they don't participate in any discounts for Dekalb Market Hall.Honestly for $28 sandwich I was expecting to be disappointed but I ended up loving it! It is a very filling sandwich and it definitely does melt in your mouth! Maybe I went on a good day (seeing the other reviews) but it was definitely very juicy and soft. I kept eating it even after I was full. The thing that really got me loving it even more was the mustard and the pickles. You can tell that the pickles were pristine quality and the mustard was handmade and specialized just for this pastrami. It was my favorite mustard and pickle sandwich combo! For anyone wondering I went on a random Tuesday early afternoon to get this sandwich. I think it's worth it if you're craving a meat sandwich! I definitely have to try the original location now.
Be the first to ReplyFood was cut very thick and loads of fat.
Would not order from them again. A forty dollar dinner became a $60+ dinner with additional charges.
Be the first to ReplyLike Katz's but it delivers to your door - 4.
6/5I'd give it higher but you've gotta be in person for it and I got it delivered on a cold rainy day from the other side of Brooklyn. Do whatever you want, but for the love of god get the pastrami sandwich on rye with mustard. The meat is so tender it practically melts in your mouth, with just the right smokiness and black pepper. It's an absolute classic, and in my opinion well worth the two toes and a minor organ it takes to pay for it. This is not something you'll get every day, because it'll bankrupt you and it's a bit too rich for that, but every once in a while if you forget what a perfect deli sandwich tastes like this is the one to beat. Montreal smoked meat eat your heart out. P.s., sure get the matzoh ball soup too, it's solid. But if that's all you get it's pretty mid for the cost.
Be the first to ReplyI gave them 2 stars because the food is good.
The service is poor and they are not friendly. The original Katz in Manhattan gives more meat, they're friendlier and has better customer service.
Be the first to ReplyThe worst brisket I have ever had.
Total fat and gray colored. Terrible. Could not even get in touch with them so I just wasted $25.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely disappointing.
The line at the original Katz's gets wild so I was excited to cheat the system for a quick taste of the pastrami sandwich, but it just didn't hit the spot. The flavors all seem to be there, but the meat lacked the melt in your mouth quality you'd expect and bordered on being dry. Bread tasted a little staler than I remember. The pickles still slapped though. Maybe I'm biased as I was never overly impressed by the original location (even though it's a solid sandwich), but this somehow brought the whole thing down to mediocre levels. All I can compare it to is someone doing a bad cover of a popular song at a karaoke bar. The pieces were all there, they just weren't the real thing. If you really want to try it go wait at the real location in the big line, although I think there are much better options out there these days.
Be the first to ReplyHaving the original Katz on Houston, it's hard to compare
Having the original Katz on Houston, it's hard to compare this spot to the original. It's good and has the right flavors but the pastrami doesn't melt like it should. Lives up to the name. It's a taste of Katz's, but it's definitely not the whole experience.
Be the first to ReplyI couldn't make it to the real Katz.
Since this location was kind of close to the hotel that I was staying at, it was the best that I could do. They have probably the most expensive sandwich that I've ever purchased at $25.95. The pastrami was the only sandwich at that price. At that price, I needed it my way, and I'm glad I didn't get yelled at for getting it my way with out rye bread. The sandwich was loaded with pastrami. They load it up with meat. Along with the sandwich, they also provided big with 4-5 large dill pickles. The pastrami was smokey and tender. It was impossible for me to finish the pastrami sandwich in one meal. Is it as good as it gets as the original location? I don't know. I've never been there. But, this location was good at what they do.
Be the first to ReplyBest pastrami sandwich I have ever had.
This pastrami sandwich is soooooo good and expensive. Every time I visit New York City, I have to stop by Katz to get this sandwich. It's been a while since I have visited, the sandwiches are now $26 each. I don't care how much this sandwich goes up, I will always buy one when I am in the city. The pastrami is juicy, well seasoned and just melts in your mouth. Katz is always consistent with the quality of the meat and portion size. I takes me about 3 eating sessions to eat this one sandwich. So worth the price, I highly recommend.

a piece of heritage, whether its the Pastrami on Rye or the place or the ambiance. the meat is excellent and that mustard sauce along with the pickle complemented the sand-which real good.
Be the first to ReplyLazy staff.
Seven people behind the counter, all hanging out and not doing anything. Orders coming through for the 15 minutes I waited for mine, they chose to eat pizza someone dropped off. Like, took their time talking and eating. The guy running the fryer was chillin on his phone.. no care. Man, when I had downtime at my service jobs I proactively did shit around the space, and I still screwed around with the staff. This staff is all hang out.
Be the first to ReplyA good place to enjoy the Katz's specialties.
Excellent Pastrami, if price is not a concern.
Be the first to ReplyI love Katz and have been a loyal customer for years.
But today, I had the worst experience. The staff is AWFUL. Rude, unfriendly and they deliver the opposite of customer service. After waiting for my meal for about 15 minutes, I walked up to the counter and ask if I had missed my number being called... instead of a response, the man behind the counter just pointed to the pickup area. Again I ask, "Have I missed my number? Number 44?" At this point a woman behind the counter just hands me my bag. I then stupidly say "Thank you", again no response. I've worked in the service industry for years and I seriously don't understand how Katz can afford to have a team like this. Lastly, while eating my order, the woman at the neighboring table had the same experience. I really hope management sees this post and addresses these issues. Your team is going to have negative impact on your business, if they haven't already.

One of the best places to eat a quick bite of pastrami you can't forget the pickle. The soup is good but basically the whole staff is very great. I like that you have a choice between half sandwiches and whole sandwiches because even a half sandwiches can be overwhelming. Lots of fresh meat.thanks

I was excited to get a famous NY style sandwich when I got to town, this place was around the corner. I paid $31 for this sandwich, no side, and a canned soda. Very disappointed!!
Be the first to ReplySometimes you get a hankering for a loaded pastrami
Sometimes you get a hankering for a loaded pastrami sandwich but don't want to go into the city, find a place to park, and then wait in a crazy line. That's why A Taste of Katz is an absolute wonder. Sure you don't get the full Katz experience, (service at the counter, walls full of famous patrons and most importantly samples as they're carving up the sandwich behind the counter) but you still definitely get the most important element of the experience - the pastrami!! With just a small booth in Dekalb Market they can really only make about 2 sandwiches at a time, so if you get stuck in a line you'll be waiting for a bit. As opposed to the main Katz HQ, you don't get a plate full of pickles or squeeze bottles of ketchup and mustard, given everything comes prepacked and bagged, in case you wanted to take your sandwich to run
Be the first to ReplyOrdered a Rueben and a hot dog for delivery.
ย It was dry and inedible. ย Very expensive and a waste of money.
Be the first to ReplyDon't expect food here to taste like at the OG location.
Dry meat, super soggy fries from a couple days ago.
Be the first to ReplyThe Delakb market is a cool place to experience the spots
The Delakb market is a cool place to experience the spots you can't get to as often as you'd like. Katz deli being one of them. It helps you get almost the same authentic taste as the one in Manhattan but without the crazy line. I ordered the standard pastrami on rye with Swiss. It was fantastic, pastrami was cooked perfectly and warm. It's not often I can get a pastrami sandwich while at work so when in Rome. It took all of four mins to order and get my sandwich, I can promise you that will never happen in the Manhattan shop. The customer service was pretty good, they were friendly with me and helpful. All and all I was pumped to have a great sandwich, something I was craving for some time now. I'll definitely be back if we come around the area again.

Be the first to ReplyThis is not Katz.
ย Awful customer service. Rude employees. I saw another gentleman complain and they immediately dismiss him and handle him rudely. They were also very rude to me. If u see this crew stay away. This is the second time this larger dude has been very rude.
Be the first to ReplyOh boy, this younger generation.
I'm back in NY were I lived for 62 years. I'm surprised to see a Katz's in the City Point mall, wooo whooo! I'm going to have something really NYC! "Can I have a knish with a hot dog in it" the young lady taking orders looks at me like I'm from Mars. The chef standing to my right is shaking his head like Nice. Young lady "I can't do that" I look at the chef like huh he's still giving me the nice nod. "Sure you can" YL: "No I can't I wouldn't know what to charge you" Me: "Charge me for a hot dog and a knish" looking at the chef who is still nodding in agreement. "No I can't" Me: "Okay... give me a knish" YL: "I can give you both and you can do it yourself" now the chef is looking away shaking his head. "Nah that's okay just the knish" Yeah Katz doesn't need my measly hot dog and knish money since I see you can now order a half sandwich since a whole sandwich is a fortune but no hot dog on a knish?Just another reason why NYC is dead.Peace out NYC.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give zero stars I would.
Got home with my matzoh ball soup and it is nothing but broth and a matzoh ball. No veggies, no noodles, no chicken. They have the audacity to charge nearly ten dollars for this. AWFUL! Will never return!
Be the first to ReplyThis offshoot of the legendary early-20th century NYC
This offshoot of the legendary early-20th century NYC institution is located in DeKalb Market Hall, a bustling underground space in Brooklyn. The folks behind the counter were strikingly rude and curt, but unclear to what degree this is a Texan's lack of exposure to the New York Attitude vs. what Google describes as Katz's "theatrically cranky service." The menu items are comically expensive (a sandwich for 22??), but I figured why not and copped the 1/2 sandwich + soup combo for $19, specifically in the form of pastrami on rye and matzo ball soup. And I must admit, the half-sandwich, aside from being absolutely ginormous, was fantastic. The chewy thick-cut beef was salty, oily, peppery, and juicy. The acidity of the pickles helped cut through the richness. The Matzo ball soup was just OK. The giant dumpling was mealy and dense, but not too juicy. Perhaps it needed to soak more in the light savory broth? I don't know if I will necessarily be running back here the next time I visit, but it's certainly an NYC bucket-list item that I'm glad to have experienced!
Be the first to ReplyAnyone traveling from the west coast, no trip to NYC is
Anyone traveling from the west coast, no trip to NYC is complete without a pastrami sandwich from Katz. I typically go to the LES location but I was staying in Brooklyn I was able to explore their newest outpost. Spending $20-30 is typically a lot for a sandwich, but for Katz, it's always worth it to me.This time around I ordered a half sandwich with a side of mac salad. When I say a side, it was more like a small but giant tub of mac salad that's impossible to finish in one sitting. Don't be fooled by a half sandwich, with the amount of meat they put in it, it's bigger than most regular sized sandwiches. The pastrami itself was as good as I remember it, and it something that can't be replicated anywhere else. I'm not a fan of rye bread, so I opted for a hero roll and I added lettuce and tomatoes. The bread was forgettable. If it was toasted and loaded up with mayo I think I would've enjoyed it more. The meat is star of the show though, I could just eat that and be good. It also comes with some giant pickles to nosh on the side. This location is located in a food hall with plenty of indoor seating. This is a great spot if you are coming with friends and want to get a potluck of different foods and share with everyone. If you've never been to Katz, going to the original location is still a must see and do. It's one of the few 'tourist traps' that actually delivers on the delicious food. Going there is an experience, and I felt this location was Katz lite, which makes the name 'taste of Katz' a perfect and fitting name. Best part though, absolutely no line when I went. Food came quick!
