Lovely ambience with lighting and perhaps mood that make everyone look good, somehow! Even though we only managed to get a table at the parklet when we made the reservation 2 days in advance, the people watching was kinda fun when the patrons are nicely dressed up. Patient waiters who did not patronize us for not being able to control ourselves in catching up when we should already be ordering...ahh post Covid meet ups. The arugula salad was ar-ok la (Malaysian slang) and the squid ink pasta was really pretty so so. I really enjoyed the pizza..and as the evening progressed, the desserts were ah-mazing and made the entire night out pretty memorable!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is very very good.
We went to the restaurent on Chest nut st, San Francisco. The customer service is good. It is a very busy place, reservation recomended. We had pizza , Bianca, very very good , but very spicy/hot. Had a great arugallo salad , loved the dressing and strawberries in it. Had Marinated olives, Lamb sausage with pasta and a heavenly dessert. The service is fast , no wait time , we were seated as soon as we arrived. I gave 4 star because of the noise level, extremly nosy , hard to make any good conversation, I realized I lost my voice. Do not come here if you are on your first date or bussiness meeting.

I organized a 19-person dinner for my coworkers in early March 2023 here at the Marina location and it was great. I don't have a lot of experience with organizing such events, but the catering representative (Angela Tomey) was patient and offered strong guidance, as well as flexible and responsive in re the array of dietary restrictions and allergies. Of course, the food was excellent, came out and was taken away at a steady and good pace, and the staff was really accommodating and thoughtful in re beverages and more this and that. The "atrium" is a lovely space as well. It was altogether a really positive experience and everyone had a nice time. I would definitely hold large parties at A16 again.

Amazing pizza and amazing service! The woodfired pizza was excellent and the wine was also great. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the street and has great ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyDelivery was awful.
Ordered (cold and floppy) Magerita pizza with pancetta (greasy and soggy) with extra chili oil (rank and putrid). Order Delfina or bareta
Be the first to ReplyI think the place is really cozy and good looking.
Above average, high-end furniture. The food was mediocre, however, the potato side for one if the dishes was uncooked in the middle. The margherita and funghi pizza were okay, the cheese on the funghi was too salty.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best pizzas I've ever had.
I was a bit skeptical due to the price but its well worth a visit. The burrata and the arugula salad were pretty decent but nothing special, the pizzas though were on another level. We ordered the Arrabbiata and the Vesuvio. Both were delicious but we both agreed that the Vesuvio was the better one. The Chocolate Budino Tart was also super delicious. I think the pizzas were meant to be personal so the portions are on the larger side. The service was excellent, we got in a little earlier than our reservation time and we hung out at the bar while we waited, the bartender was friendly and helpful. Because we got in earlier the restaurant was mostly empty and quiet but by the time we got out it was packed and on the noisier side, so I wouldn't say its a place to have a quiet conversation, which was totally fine with us.Overall, I would return for the pizza, the service and the place itself is pretty nice but the pizza was the highlight for me.
Be the first to ReplyAn undying favorite of yuppies, families and tourists
An undying favorite of yuppies, families and tourists alike, A16 is known for rustic Italian cooking and a vast selection of delicious, unusual wines from all over the boot. Dinner reservations are indispensable, especially if you want one of the prime counter seats facing the open kitchen and wood-burning pizza oven. The menu's pies, pastas and antipasti change with the season, though the delicious maccaronara with ragu napoletana is a staple. Come summer, the zucca pizza is spot on with its wonderfully chewy and blistered crust topped with summer squash, fior di latte, and Grana Padano. And those scissors, just right for slicing it all up, make for a fun bonus. For dessert, look no further than the fig crostata with vanilla gelato.
Be the first to ReplyI recently visited A16 in San Francisco and was impressed
I recently visited A16 in San Francisco and was impressed by the quality and flavors of the Southern Italian cuisine. The burrata was a standout dish, and the pizzas were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of toppings. The spaghetti alla chitarra was also a standout dish, with a delicious sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. The portion sizes were generous, and the service was attentive. The noise level in the restaurant was a bit high, but the overall ambiance was cozy and inviting. I would definitely recommend A16 to anyone looking for delicious Italian food in San Francisco.

During my visit, I was impressed by the restaurant's cozy atmosphere and outdoor terrace. The menu features a wide selection of options including vegetables, seafood, and meats, but the standout dish is undoubtedly the pizza. The pizzas are made using a hot iron oven that crisps up the crust perfectly and complements the tomato and mozzarella cheese flavors. It's easily one of the best pizzas I've ever had.Overall, A16 is an excellent restaurant that excels in every aspect including atmosphere, service, and food. While the prices may be slightly on the higher side, I highly recommend checking out this restaurant if you want to experience the bold flavors and aromas of southern Italian cuisine during your visit to San Francisco.
Be the first to ReplyCame in for a quick bite pretty early (~5pm) on a Saturday.
We got the arrabbiata pizza and stone fruit arugula salad to share. The salad was good but just needed more, there were only 3 pieces of thickly cut fruit and some grated cheese. $18 for a salad I expected more, more fruit & something else for more texture. It was good but it was just a salad. The pizza was also ok but needed some improvements. Our pizza was cooked unevenly, so 1 side had well cooked, crunchy on the outside but fluffy on the inside crust, but the other side was undercooked and doughy. The toppings itself were good and it came out hot.All in all the food was tasty, but at the price I expected a bit more. The interior is very cute and comfortable, I would come back to give them another shot & enjoy the interior but the food didn't quite live up to what I expected.
Be the first to Reply4 stars for food and wine.
-2 stars for shrinking portions. What once were pizzas you could share with someone have now turned into personal pizzas. If you're not a crust person but you go to dinner hoping to leave satisfied, you're screwed. The pizza (where there is a sauce and toppings) has shrunk! It's small. Also, where the hell did the scissors go to cut the pizza?! That was such a funny thing, but something I didn't think they'd ever get rid of. I guess when COVID arrived, the scissors exited. I can't say we won't go back because the food is tasty, but I am so tired of restaurants upping (already) high prices and shrinking portions. And don't forget about the 20% added gratuity (+ your server reminding you that you *can always* leave more), even if service is meh. There is room for improvement.

Five star review van a two star. Four of us ate there last night. We are from San Francisco and we know lots of restaurants. This was not our first time at a 16. It may be our last. They are suffering from Weak recipes, weaker cooking, poor execution and mediocre service. And we ordered salads, a couple of pizzas and a pasta, as well as a dessert plus a bottle of wine. Let's start with the best parts: the desert, a Budino, was good. The pizza dough is great. Everything else, meh. Since the wine arrived first, I'll start with that. We requested a crisp dry white. The server chose the wine and said it would taste of sliced apples. So far so good. Once the wine arrived it was anything but crisp or dry. Not a great bottle. The salads came next and were uninspired. The stone fruit salad had about 4/4 inch thick slices of peach, lots of arugula and pecorino. Inspired and miserly on the stone fruit. The seafood salad had shrimp squid and octopus. If they had been grilled, they probably would've come off pretty well. However, they were sautรฉed and heavily salted. They could not stand up to the greens. By the end, despite the choice of some nice seafood, a portion of the salad was unfinished. That tells you something. Next came the pasta. A pappardeli with Lamb. Besides arriving cool, rather than hot like it should've been and needed to be, the pasta was literally raw and hard in the middle. It was all bunched on top of itself with the different sheets sticking together and, literally uncooked in the middle. The lamb also not hot and had uninspired flavoring. The pizzas were next. One sausage and one vegetarian. Both arrived at the table not being hot. Hot foods need to be served hot! Room temperature pizza is not starting off on the right foot. The sausage itself was sort of OK, but certainly not cooked long enough and seemed like it was just thrown on to the top of the pizza. Similar with the Barada cheese. The pizza dough itself is very good. It gets a crisp to it but it's chewy and flavorful. The most competently prepared part of the meal. This was a Friday night and a busy restaurant and a busy neighborhood. The problems though were right to the core of the restaurant that we know from having eaten there before that it didn't have to be that way. Cove it is no longer an excuse. They had plenty of business And it's an expensive restaurant. In addition, their Parkwood is really mediocre. It does not show any pride ownership. That same lack of pride was evident throughout the evening. This place needs to get its act back together or it's not going to last. Good luck folks

A16 is well-known for its traditional Italian cuisine and an extensive collection of excellent and uncommon wines worldwide. Making dinner reservations is necessary, mainly if you choose one of the perfect seats in front of the open kitchen and wood-burning pizza oven. The pies, pasta, and antipasti are updated seasonally; nevertheless, the mouthwatering maccaronara with ragu Napoletana remains a menu mainstay. Summertime is the perfect time to order the Zucca pizza, which has a deliciously chewy and blistered dough topped with summer squash, fior di latte, and Grana Padano. A delightful bonus is provided by those scissors, which are the ideal size for cutting anything up. Regarding dessert, you can't go wrong with the fig crostata served with vanilla gelato.
Be the first to ReplyI wish I could give this restaurant 1 star but I will give
I wish I could give this restaurant 1 star but I will give them the benefit of doubt. It could have been a long day but for a renowned restaurant like A16 it seems odd. A top 10 place should have better service and better execution. Can you say HUBRIS!! The Pappardelle had 3 layers of pasta stuck to each other. The dish tasted decent but it was callously put together. The pizza was decent, and the chicken was cooked very well but again the overall execution of the dish was lacking. The sauce was overwhelming with the chicken and it seemed like the line cook was upset or just bored. The kicker: A server while putting a dish on the table knocked over a jar of oil and two people were saved by a whisker because of the fast response to the spill but it could have been disastrous. Guess what? No apology. We asked for dessert and were told they had only cannoli or pistachio gelato. it turns out there was no cannoli and there was no pistachio gelato either. Instead, we were peddled two immensely dense pieces of Tiramisu that a corner deli probably does a better job with. I thought several times before writing this review but there is no point in getting intimidated by these foo foo high-end restaurants that treat the very people who help them stay in business like they don't know what they are doing. Be NICER!! It costs nothing...

No respect( Cooks are turtles, damn slow....
Be the first to ReplyMy fiancรฉ and I were shocked at how amazing the food was.
I am a picky eater and a pescatarian so it was a little hard finding pasta with no meat (only one option). The burrata was SO GOOD but the bread that came with it was so crunchy that it made it hard to eat. The waiters were super friendly as well.
Be the first to ReplyLove the pizza and pastas at this place.
My family of 5 ate here and everyone found something they liked. Get prosciutto and add to your pizza.

The Marinara pizza is where it's at! I've tried a few- the margarita, the sausage, etc. They weren't bad but the flavors of fresh tomato and juiciness of this pizza puts it above the level of most other pizzerias in town! We also adored the padrone peppers as well as the charcuterie and cheese board- absolutely on point. The wine is always perfection here, as well. I enjoyed everything but the menu item that I will always remember and taste in my dreams is that marinara pizza! Excellent work, A16!

When looking through their menu, I was immediately sold on the margherita pizza with burrata (I can never turn down burrata). The tomato sauce on the pizza was very fresh and the burrata was deeelicious! The pappardelle pasta was also quite good. Very solid wine list, as well. I would definitely come back if I'm in the area again!

Their pizzas are fantastic but their mushroom pizza is especially amazing. Friendly service, beautiful/relaxed atmosphere, and fair prices. A Rockridge staple. Love it!

For the price you think the service would be better The bar tender is very intense and somewhat unwelcoming.
Be the first to ReplyRude hostess and hostile environment.
Didn't feel welcome or wanted as guests whatsoever, hopefully they were just having an off day.
Be the first to ReplyPizzas are phenomenal.
The crust is just exceptionally chewy, interesting, and perfectly charred from the wood fired ovens. I liked both the citrus salad and the arugula one. The maccaronara was a bit too dense and the sauce a touch too salty but I still enjoyed it. But basically, this is THE place for authentic Neapolitan pizza.
Be the first to ReplyOur experience was less than satisfying.
Waiter was not helpful with menu or wine list. Wines were very pricey and our first bottle had obviously turned. They replaced it with one that cost $20 more. The pizzas were just so so. The fettucini was just bad. However, the rib eye genovese dinner was awesome. Don't set your expectations too high. Hopefully this was just a bad night at A16 San Francisco.
