Ok
Pleasant space, nicely decorated, friendly staff. The food is fine, but not great. Housemade pastas are heavy, not one with a simple Pomodoro sauce; the tagliatelle was underdone, the meat not tender. Margarita pizza nothing special. Limoncello, bizarrely, not on the menu– but they have it at the bar. Rhubarb cake very good. Annoyingly noisy when crowded. Be on the lookout for surcharges.

First time at this restaurant for lunch with a friend and I was not disappointed!!! I was immediately greeted as I walked through the door. The service was awesome and the Kale/Brussel Sprouts Cesar Salad was amazing!! It was entree size and very filling. Will definitely come back for dinner and try the pasta dishes!!

One of the best fancy italian meals I've ever had. The place lived up to the immense hype online as well as from my colleagues who had eaten here previously. I didn't have to pay for this meal so factor that in but everything I had was delicious, full of flavor and prepared perfectly. We started with the Alla Vita chopped salad, meatballs and frito misto. Of those, I'd say the salad was the highlight. Then we had the Ricotta Dumplings which are as good as advertised and the Tagliatelle which was pasta with a meat sauce and also very good. For the next course we had the chicken parm which was probably the best I've ever had along with crispy potatoes and roasted broccolini. So much flavor on the sides, was really pleasantly surprised. Finally ended the night with the coconut ricotta mouse cake which was a perfect light chocolate dessert. Service was excellent and enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. The noise was not too loud so could easily carry on conversations with my table mates. Can't recommend this place enough for business or date night. Just don't bring the kids.
Be the first to ReplyMiddling Italian Cuisine
We found Alla Vita to serve up overall mediocre Italian cuisine, but question if our recent return from a trip to Italy sullied and tainted our culinary experience here by comparison?!? The food was swimming in overly dependent heavy sauces leaving nothing in particular to write home about save the large portioned Chicken Parmigiana that was worthy of a return engagement on its own merits. Service was somewhat lacking although incredibly accommodating on the side of the kitchen.

Visited on 22/10/23. Really enjoyed it. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance and the service was great. And then we come to the food - oh wow!! I had the Ricotta Dumplings and honestly, it was one of the nicest meals I’ve ever had. Divine. I’ll be thinking of it until my (hopefully) next visit to Chicago.

This was the second time visiting this restaurant and it again exceeded our expectations. Our server Haneem (I hope this is the correct spelling) was wonderful! Attentive, very sweet and always smiling. Our reservation was at 10:00 pm but it was honestly worth the wait. The food is absolutely phenomenal and the service is too. We will be back again for more delicious food and a great time.

Went to Alla Vita last night with family to celebrate a milestone birthday. I was able to overlook the $25 martini, I didn't cause a scene when I found a long hair in my pizza but then I found this hunk of plastic in my chopped salad... What exactly is going on in that kitchen?!? I would have given no stars if possible. All the bougie decor in the world can't make up for food that causes you to lose your appetite.
Be the first to ReplyGo just for the ricotta dumplings
A really lovely restaurant with amazing Italian food! Between three of us, we were able to try several different dishes, and each of them was really delicious. But the ricotta dumplings were simply amazing--tender and luscious. Yum! The noise level when we were there (on a Wednesday evening) was beyond "energetic"--it was really hard to talk or hear anything. Service was excellent and attentive.

This is my new favorite restaurant! The food is fantastic, unique flavors, exciting combinations and delicious all around. Our server, Antonio was wonderful and took great care of us. Truly an excellent experience; we will certainly be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Lunch
Great lunch at Alla Vita, not an extensive menu but enough to choose from. We tried three different dishes at lunch, everyone enjoyed theirs. The fritto misto was excellent, Fast service and tables nicely spaced out. For sure would return.

On a rainy January Thursday night at 6:15, Alla Vita was full and bustling but our table was waiting for us. We got a 4-top near the wine refrigerator for the 2 of us which gave us plenty of elbow room. We questioned our waiter about the 3 specials on offer and then ordered. For 2 of us, we ordered 2 apps (the roasted clams special, roasted octopus with cannellini beans, crab bucatini, also from the specials list, and a side of broccolini. This was ample for 2 of us. All was delicious; tho the clams were a bit chewy the sauce was excellent with thick slices of ciabatta bread to sop it all up. Then, to our surprise, a runner brought a plate of rigatoni with vodka sauce, as "a gift". I was happy to try it as it's a dish I've heard of but never eaten. We each sampled a little but we were pretty full by then, so let most of it go. I have to say while the pasta was perfectly cooked and it was probably a good version of the dish, creamy tomato sauces are not to my taste. We skipped dessert, opting for an espresso (his) and a limoncello (mine). The food is tasty; the menu has familiar and popular "Italian-American" dishes, served family-style. Prices are reasonable for a downtown restaurant, except for a couple of the meat dishes (bistecca a la Fiorentina for $125!) Service is skilled and friendly. The decor is attractive. While pretty loud, we were still able to carry on a conversation. We were even able to find street parking a block away. We had a good time.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food but expensive!
The food was fantastic! Best gluten free pasta dish I have ever had and I will be dreaming about it for a long time. My husband said his pizza was incredible as well. Service was good. We didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar. I did dock one star because of the price. They charged me $11 for a glass of wine that costs $10 for the whole bottle at a store. I understand upping the price at a restaurant but that seems steep.

Family visit - Saturday 4:40 pm - Restaurant pretty empty “No tables available” she said. So we decided to seat at the bar. Antipasti: Roasted octopus —> 1/2 over cooked - 1/2 under cooked Tuna crudo: flavor 9/10, presentation 7/10 Time: 5:10, still a lot of empty tables. We ordered as main entree: Rigatoni allá vodka: presentation 10/10, flavor 10/10 Lasagna wild mushrooms: presentation 10/10, flavor 10/10 Margherita pizza: presentation 5/10, flavor 2/10 Alla Vita’s chicken parmigiana: presentation 5/10, flavor 6/10 (signature dish) Asked for sparkling water, waitress told us that they don’t have it, gave us a bottle of carbonated water and as we are at the bar, couple of minutes later, I see a bottle of Perrier served for another customer. They charged as for a “Pellegrino” bottle. Vodka tonic, well prepared but too much ice. Old Fashion: very good Desserts: Expresso: Good coffee, correct silverware, good temperature. Fresh biscotti. Affogato: very good! The option of dark straciatella made it great! Gelato Nutella: Good gelato, despite of the dirty spoon (little piece of food stuck in the back) Time: 5:45, couple of tables empty. 80% capacity. Note: shelf in the bar at the top, covered with dust. Really needs a deep clean.

Alla Vita is the latest project from the Boka Group and partner/chef Lee Wolen, a chic and stylish and elegant Italian eatery with fanciful decor and whimsical vibe. Located at 564 West Randolph Street, in Regus Illinois, the Illinois Department of Transportation building, it is the former home of Bellemore. Among the delicious Italian dishes on the menu are Wolen's signature chicken parmigiana topped with fire roasted tomato sauce and buffalo mozzarella. Open from 11 to 2 and 4:30 to 10 Monday through Friday and 4:30 to 10 on Saturday and Sunday, Alla Vita is another reason why Chicago is host to so many outstanding Italian ristorantes. My wife and I started with wood fired table bread, wood fired meatballs, Mediterranean prawns and Kale Caesar salad with sourdough croutons, black pepper, red onion and parmigiana dressing. For an entree, my wife chose Alla Vita's signature chicken parmigiana with tomato sauce, basil, buffalo mozzarella and roasted squash. I opted for the roasted bone-in ribeye steak with balsamic glazed onion, rosemary and olive oil with crispy potatoes and roasted broccoli. For dessert, we shared ricotta mousse with olive oil cake, blueberries and lemon streusel and a chocolate torte with amarena fudge, olive oil and vanilla gelato. Another winner for Boka Group and Lee Wolen.

Wonderful service , delicious food and great atmosphere! Was visiting from Canada , but wish I could go more often! Hope to be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyCelestial priced chicken parmigiana for our anniversary.
Our reserved table to celebrate our wedding anniversary ended next to the wait staff prep area.We ended up sharing elbows throughout the meal. What was more outrageous was the house specialty an average portion of chicken parmigiana with a steak knife under it with a celestial price of $34.00, with no sides. We also had an average tasting pizza and left wondering why we even went.

This restaurant is excellent in every way! Our server Jason was excellent with recommendations & details about the menu. We started with the table bread that was so different & delicious. Shared the ricotta dumplings that literally melted in your mouth, rigatoni alla vodka, the best I’ve ever had, grilled octopus & chicken parm, all excellent! Dessert was tiramisu & was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back! I highly recommend this restaurant.

It took forever for us to get reservations at this hot, new spot in the Chicago area. We came for dinner and tried a variety of their dishes. They spare no expense when it comes to the ambiance, the environment and atmosphere was fantastic as well as visually engaging. The food was well worth the wait. It looks like they had some open seating so perhaps walk-ins are not a bad option to try if you have the time.

Alla Vita, a new restaurant from the BOKA Group, bills itself as "Italian-American" food and a family-style menu. They feel free to take liberties with classic dishes, with good results. It's an attractive large space with a long bar along one wall, a large airy main space with a pergola-type construction and a large ceiling hanging of undulating beige fabric that's meant to evoke ribbons of lasagna. At the back is a smaller room behind a wall of windows looking out on the larger room. The paint is dark and the chandeliers provide subdued lighting in there but it's far quieter than the main dining area.
It took weeks to get a reservation for a mid-week 7 pm slot. We arrived early and had to wait for a table but a few minute before the appointed time, the host said he would seat us early if we would promise to vacate the table by 8:30. We accepted and were shown to a great table in the smaller back room by a big window where we could overlook the action in the main dining room. We decided it was a highly desirable table.
We learned from the waitress that dishes are designed to share, so are generously sized. She recommended a couple appetizers to share, a pasta and a large dish from the "forno" section. Having quizzed the host about the pizzas and hearing him rhapsodize about their wonderful crisp and puffy crust, we wanted to try one. We opted for 2 apps (roasted octopus and wood-fired meatballs in roasted tomato sauce); the chopped salad; a mushroom pizza with black truffle; and squash-filled agnolotti. We skipped the "forno" section of the menu. I also had a delicious cocktail, "Under the Pergola", an aperol-based drink with citrus and served with a big sprig of salted rosemary.
Food started coming promptly after it was ordered but in courses and hot from the kitchen. While we enjoyed it all, the stand-out dish for us was the octopus which was almost crunchy and in a great creamy/garlicky sauce with fried chickpeas and chopped herbs. We couldn't finish the pizza and brought half home for lunch the next day; the crust survived the trip, being refrigerated overnight and reheated very well.
We also had dessert, the apple ricotta cake with maple (?) ice cream. My companion had an espresso made with Sparrow coffee which he enjoyed.
Service was smooth and competent. Our waitress was helpful in deciding what to order and checked up several times to see we were happy with the dishes after we tasted them. There seemed to be no shortage of staff to bring dishes from the kitchen, refill water glasses, remove used plates and utensils.
We left just under 90 minutes after we were seated as promised. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu....if we can get another reservation.
Dinner for 2 with tax but before tip came to $144, including a 3% surcharge for employee benefits.
