Be the first to ReplyGood Mexican Food with a View!
Dining experience at Alma through the pandemic has been uneven, but we recently had a very good dinner and service on the rooftop. We had no reservation but arrived early on a Saturday evening and were seated promptly. Service was excellent and margaritas delicious and reasonably priced. We were disappointed, however, to find that 2 of our favorite items are no longer on the menu; chicken and cheese enchiladas in pumpkin sauce and tres leches cake for dessert. Having said that we made another selection and everything we chose was very good. It is 2 flights of stairs to the rooftop, fyi, but there is outside dining adjacent to the restaurant. Would be happier if my favorites were restored to the menu, but still will gladly return!

If I could give this place 100 stars I would. We sat on the rooftop for dinner and it's covered which was great as it rained on & off. We have David and Reya (not sure how to spell her name) as our servers. They were absolutely delightful. A++++++ service & food. Great recommendations. Food was ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING!!! Got a variety of items. Drinks were great. View is great. Atmosphere is great. Go here if your thinking about it.

Alma is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, and the ambiance is enhanced by the rooftop dining room with a beautiful view of Manhattan. Be aware, however, that access to the roof is via two long staircases, so if mobility is an issue, you may want to opt for their outdoor street level dining, in season, or their second floor dining room. The menu is quite large and varied. Homemade sangria is excellent and reasonably priced. A favorite choice of ours is chicken and cheese enchiladas in pumpkin sauce. Tres leches cake for dessert is a must. Parking is on the street. Highly recommend!

Since the pandemic we hadnโt gone out to restaurants and we thought weโd treat ourselves to Alma in Brooklyn on Columbia Street. We had gone there a few years back and it was lovely to sit on their rooftop and have a nice dinner. Everything about the restaurant that evening was terrible. The food was bland, the service terrible and the restaurant is overpriced. When we sat down, another party of 4 sat next to us. One of the men almost fell on the floor when his table detached from itโs base. We all wondered how a restaurant that supposedly cleans and moves tables constantly wouldnโt notice this table was broken. Anyway, the waiter thought the customer could still eat on it until the customer demanded another table. Then the waiter suggested they move to another location. The customer had requested this area because of the view and finally, they replaced the table, the scene being very disruptive to everyone trying to eat. Going back to our dinner, we had each ordered a glass of wine. They brought us a dinky tumbler of wine for $13.00 each. We didnโt know the cost of it since we hadnโt see it on their menu so we ordered another after a while. My husband was drinking his and happened to look into the glass and there was brown sludge on the bottom. It was dark on the roof, so to not interfere with the view, and he hadnโt see it right away. When we pointed it out to the waiter he took the glass back to the bar area where a big discussion ensued. After a while the waiter returned and very casually said, donโt worry, we wonโt charge you for that drink! WHAT??? We had no expectations of what they could do to make up for it but we were certainly underwhelmed by that kind of response. In all, unless the view means absolutely everything to you, I recommend you spare yourself the experience of dining at Alma.

This was our first time back to Alma since the pandemic. They are following all the protocols, including sanitizer at each table, distancing, etc. We sat in the dining room on the second level, which provided a nice view of the NYC skyline. There is also a dining room on the 3rd level, the rooftop with excellent views. No elevator. We shared appetizers and an entree of chicken enchiladas in green pumpkin seed sauce. Everything was delicious. Also shared tres leches for dessert, a large enough portion to split. Delicious red sangria as well. Everything was delicious and service was excellent. Prices are reasonable. Parking is on the street and not a problem. Highly recommend.

Waitress said would be 30min wait we moved to the corner to chat to find our table was given away twice after waiting more than an hr. I understand things happen but at the least pick up the first round of drinks that's customer service
Be the first to ReplyCOVID Dinner
Visited Alma during a short COVID staycation in Brooklyn. Despite the last minute, we were able to reserve a table two days before. A few hours before our reservation, they sent a text to remind us that the kitchen closes at 10:00 and asked whether we wanted an earlier seating. Once we arrived, our table was ready and we walked up stairs to the rooftop. All the tables were a safe distance apart and we were able to relax without our masks (but theyโre required when walking inside the restaurant to/from your table).
We started with the guacamole which was fabulous. It was so good we ordered a second round. We also had the grilled shrimp, which were perfectly grilled, and chicken enchiladas which my husband said were great.
The rooftop has a nice view of the City. I would definitely recommend this spot for a nice dinner. Limited menu, but the food we had was delicious.
There was also a counter downstairs with sidewalk seating for walk up quests.
Excellent Food and Service!
Alma features one of our favorite dishes, chicken enchiladas in pumpkin sauce, which I have not seen on any other Mexican menus. It is a generous portion of three enchiladas, and absolutely delicious. The sangria is excellent, as are the drinks, especially the featured cocktail of the day. The tres leches is a fabulous dessert, and a large enough portion to share. Prices are comparable to area restaurants. Parking is on the street, but usually not a problem. The two dining rooms, both inside and rooftop, require walking up long flights of stairs, either one or two. No elevator, but the views on the roof make it worthwhile. Highly recommend!

The view of Manhattan from the rooftop seating is spectacular. This was not my first visit and it is always a must do when I am in Brooklyn. I am especially fond of the chicken enchiladas with the mole sauce

I had a good experience before but this time i was sad the basket was so dirty that they served the chips in.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Enchiladas and Views!
The rooftop seating is very popular at Alma, where you have a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline. If it is full, however, we equally like the second floor dining room which also provides some views. If you have an issue with stairs, be aware that there is no elevator and the climb to the roof is 2 long flights up, with the main dining room one flight up. We particularly like their chicken enchiladas with pumpkin sauce, which is a generous portion of 3 enchiladas. The guacamole is excellent, as is the tres leches dessert. They make excellent white and red sangria and margaritas. Service is great. Parking is on the street, but not a problem. Highly recommend!

The great draw of Alma is obviously the view from the rooftop restaurant (which you can't book, just turn up). Lower Manhattan/Financial District looks great but only concentrating on the view would do a disservice to the flavoursome Mexican food the restaurant offers (great guacamole!) - the downstairs bar serves up a good choice of pre-dinner drinks and cocktails too.
