Gladly for lunch and shopping, or just for a cappuccino.
If you live in Munich and enjoy cooking and eating, you can't ignore Dallmayr. A reservation for lunch is now necessary, too many tourists and people passing through (even with suitcases). People always like to be invited to brunch; we have found it overcrowded and very restless and loud. What has surprised us recently is that warm food is served in the bistro until late in the afternoon. That didn't exist before, but now the place is so overcrowded that they've probably expanded the lunch business to such an extent. But the quality is still good, the staff tries to keep a cool head and is consistently friendly. The store has everything your heart desires, but sometimes, especially before holidays, you have to wait in line at the door.

Today, like every year, I was at her house and wanted to buy a few things. But their unfriendly saleswoman in the tea department didn't make it easy for me. I bought jams and some chocolate pieces. Unfortunately the department was not staffed. So I went to the tea department. And asked if I could pay here. She didn't answer. After asking again, she replied that they are already there now. Where else would I have paid? She was very unfriendly. They probably differentiate between tourists and upscale shoppers. I won't visit her house again.

Pure disappointment! My husband and I wanted to buy a nice gift for a friend, stroll around a bit and enjoy ourselves. Unfortunately, the staff are overwhelmed, not very service-oriented and sometimes even cheeky. It's a shame, because we're used to it completely differently.

Today (12/12/2023 / 3:03 p.m.) I went shopping with my husband on Dienerstrasse, then we wanted to make ourselves comfortable in the restaurant and eat and drink... there were about 10 chairs free at the BAR, then the barman said it was reserved for 3 p.m., they'll probably come later... then a lady got up from a table for two, I turned to the waiter to ask if we could sit down, I didn't even get a chance to ask, I was loudly insulted by 2 waiters from right and left, so that everyone's heads turned. I understand it's Christmas time and everyone is a bit stressed, but in such a renowned establishment, the guests expect respectable behavior, and I expect respectable staff behavior towards the customer. I've been shopping there for decades, whether it's Christmas, Easter or the other 300 days. After all, you can spend your money anywhere.
Be the first to ReplyWine too cheap?
We bought two backpacks full of bread, cheese, etc., and then decided on a bottle of Californian Cabernet Sauvignon 2016. Everything turned out to be good when we drank it that evening. The wine only had one fault: at least from the seller's point of view. It was too cheap! With an icy expression, the wine seller rolled up the bottle in paper for us. For 9.90 euros, there is no smile. When does that start? From 30 euros per bottle? From 50 euros? That's just not right! That wouldn't have happened with the Beetle.
Be the first to ReplyHigh end gourmet store
A high end gourmet store in the old city center ... this place has it all ... prices aren't as crazy like Harrods in London .. but definitely not cheap ... tons of cheese, and cold foods are available ... They have a section of chocolates, teas, cookies, wines and super high end liquors ... After buying some stuff, we went to the bar and had a couple of glasses of wine .. The service was nice and attentive ... Don't fear a language barrier ... everyone speaks English ! Will be back for sure next time I'm in Munich !!
Be the first to ReplyLunch at Dallmayr
We were in Munich for a weekend so we went to Dallmayr to have lunch... We made no reservation and the place was full but a helpfull staffmember made us wait for a minute to have a table free for us. We hade a very nice mail with the perfect cooled wines and coffee and cakes after. When i am in a restaurant i always observe how staff is coping with work and stress. As i said, the place was full and the staff had a lot of work but surprisingly to me they were always smiling and polite to everyone. My special thanks to Frau Papaioannu who served us and made us feel at home and also my respect to all the staffmembers ! Thank you !

We went in to admire the beautiful offerings. Had we stay longer in Munich we would have bought all the food. It’s a compact version of Harrods food hall.

Yes, this place is expensive, but it's free to browse. Everything a member of court would need to snack on is available here: chocolates, wines, coffee, cheeses....etc. Go and marvel, and then pick up a snack if your wallet allows.

Disappointing
I have never seen such a clumsy service in a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars. The waiters wore sneakers and the approach to the customer was more like Oktoberfest than a starred restaurant. The wine was not chosen but recommended by the
Maitre D, they didn’t let us taste it before pouring it, but simply served at the table. The insistence with which both the wine glasses and the water glasses were filled, in a clear attempt to make us consume more drinks was the most embarrassing situation of the evening. The waitress explained the dishes in English with a speed that did not allow us to understand the composition of the dish, we asked to present the menu in German, despite their being two native speakers at the table we could still not understand. Myself, the oldest female of the diners, was served second or last. The dishes of the diner who sat towards the wall were served not to the right but across the table. The bottles of wine handled by the the neck without the help of a napkin. Last but not least the trolley of spirits that arrives jingling was more reminiscent of the trolley of drinks on a train.
Average food, nothing that left me wanting to go back.
Completely underwhelming
First of all i have to say that i’m a head chef myself and worked at a one-star restaurant. I was completely disappointed here. Luckily i went only for lunch... I actually do not really know where to start. The amuse were actually really nice and yummy. The sommelier was the highlight and picked really good wines. The first course (i opted for salmon) was also very good. But from then it just went downhill in my opinion. The ray course was nothing special - a tiny piece of fish and a piece of salad, main was a tiny portion of meat as well and desert just... Dunno... Celery apple something combination.... Wasn’t bad but presentation??? Definitely not 2 stars worth... All in all i have to say it wasn’t worth 230€ for lunch just for myself. At least for me. I had better meals at 1 star restaurants...
