The food service and ambiance was amazing.
The atmosphere gives off speak easy while the service is nothing short of fine dining. Everything from the plates to the ambiance was perfect especially sitting close to the semi open concept kitchen. Huge fan and will be returning. Despite our reservation being half an hour before close my partner and I did not feel rushed. The plates are a work of art as well!

If you want to spend $750 for dinner for four, have poor food, a limited and expensive wine list this is the place for you. I have eaten in restaurants in California, Philly, Maryland, Florida and France. This place was by far the worst. You can't find it. When you finally get close, you still can't because the entry in inside a small alcove just ouside the door. Once in the alcove, you still cannot enter because the door is looked. Then you must ring a door bell and wait. After a minute or so, a small window in the door opens and a man or woman asks what you want. The restaurant is a gimmick. If you want to waste you money, this is the place for you.

Staff are fantastic from time you are seated until you walk out the door. Ambiance is a take you back to times of privacy and special treatment. Can not speak enough about the bone Marrow app that would have never tried it the waiter did not highly recommend as a MUST try and well worth living on the edge. Drinks were super creative and fun for our party tried most of the cocktails and shared for all to sample The steaks are wonderful and the Tomahawk was a real treat. There is something for everyone to dine and enjoy and plenty to take home. Wonderful family dinner.

My partner and I came here for our anniversary and it was an awesome experience. It felt like we were in a completely different place the whole time. The interior was cozy and calm. Our server was incredibly sweet as well as the other staff members. Everyone was so nice to us the whole time. We weren't rushed and got great recommendations from the menu. The food was absolutely amazing. We got the lamb, the filet, creamed spinach, and potatoes. Everything tasted amazing and high quality. My favorite was the lamb shanks and the creamed spinach. Incredibly simple but flavorful. We ended the meal with the cheesecake mousse and they gave us complimentary rosé because they knew it was our anniversary from the reservation. It was so incredibly sweet and meant a lot. I would definitely come back here for a special occasion!

Have been wanting to try this spot for over a year - and it did not disappoint!! We split the filet and the beef Wellington because we couldn't decide, melt in your mouth absolute perfection. The vibes are classy and boujee and the service was even better than the food, with suggestions because I really didn't know what to get!

I was here on my husband's birthday. The food was great, the servers were friendly . Absolutely we will be back

This was my first time ever going to Alpen Rose and it was absolutely phenomenal. First off, the service from beginning to end was astounding. Our table wasn't ready yet and the bar was full so they took us over to Sampan so we could sit at that bar. When our table was ready, they came back and got us and gave us free grilled prawns for having to wait. The food was absolutely delicious. Definitely get the bread because it was so good - I still think about it to this day. The salads were amazing, the steaks - incredible, and the chocolate cake? Omg. So good. The restaurant itself is super classy and nice. I loved the vibes. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd go here every weekend.

Wow... where do I begin? I will start with a full disclosure of the service because I don't want that to get lost down below. Staff here worked hard to make sure we had a wonderful time. My wife's NY Strip was wayyyy too rare for her tastes, she ordered a medium, they took it and the chef did a lousy job to change the internal temperature. Still pretty red in the middle. We decided to let them know again that the steak isn't cooked enough. The manager (Eric I think?) came and really went above and beyond. He apologized an enormous amount, gave us free desert, took off some sides off our bill, and gave us a fresh raw steak wrapped up to take home. The amazing thing is, we thought he just wrapped up the half eaten steak my wife received; we told him we will just cook it more at home. When we got home we found a fresh raw steak wrapped up for us! This is quality service. Additionally, the ambience is absolutely what it should be for a steakhouse. Classy, sophisticated, music not too loud. Drinks were excellently done. I got the "Refined No. 1" and it was like a mix between an Old Fashioned and a Rusty Nail. My wife ordered the "No. 112" and she loved it. Food was amazing. Beef Wellington blew me away with the tenderness and flavor. Mac & Cheese was elevated. Potato Pavé was perfectly golden. Carrots were alright, labneh didn't do much for it. All in all this is an amazing steakhouse that is a must if you live in Philly!
Be the first to ReplySuperb.
Honestly, the best experience and meal I've had in a very long time. The second you walk into the door you are greeted with such a friendly environment that's classy and beautiful. The interior is small but the decor is classy creating a more romantic and chill environment. The service was exceptional. The waiter was attentive and sweet. Now the food, oh my dayz. Everything had me wanting more and more and if I didn't get full I'd order more. We got the oysters which were fantastic. Then we got the famous bone marrow toast and I now know why everyone raves about it. I would literally eat like 10 of these as my meal. The flavors were on point. Hands down the best dish. Then the ribeye was brilliant. Cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The baked Alaska was good, although I will say this was not my fav dish but my partner loved it. I think for me the run was a little too overpowering but the other desserts looked just as amazing. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great experience and amazing food.

This places vibes is just immaculate, feels like it took me back in time and I love it. Very very romantic atmosphere, perfect for date nights or anniversary/birthday celebrations with your S.O. The presentation is on point, from the cute little clipboard menus to them letting you take pics of the steak before taking it to cut for you right in front of you (my fave part bc cutting steak is my least favorite thing to do lol.) And let's talk about the food, chefs kiss! Flavor is on point, loved loved loved the lemony seasoning on the octopus. Ugh so good. Bone marrow toast was another fave dish of mine. Staff was amazing, great experience here!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, fantastic service and an exquisite space.
Speakeasy vibes and great ambiance. Though nearly impossible to get a reservation, this spot is worth it!

I mentioned to my boyfriend that I wanted to come here for dinner. He surprised me with reservations! We came in on a Sunday evening at 5pm.Where so I start? You ring a bell in order to have your reservations checked and then you are let in. The restaurant is beautiful! Curved wooden ceiling, stunning chandeliers, rounded windows, and the list goes on! It is intimate with only twelve tables I believe. The service was incredible! We started with the rolls and bone marrow toast. We spilt the porterhouse and had the creamed spinach and a potato rosti as our sides. We cannot wait to go back and try different dishes!

We love Alpen Rose!!!They are definitely giving Barclay Prime a run for their money. Barclay was our go-to steakhouse, but that rank has been usurped by AR.1. Cool speakeasy vibe, dim and intimate ambiance. It's a pretty small place. Bar seating is only four count.2. Bone Marrow Toast - herbs, beef cheek, red wine - Favorite appetizer! 3. Tuna carpaccio with housemade potato chips was also very good.3. Octopus - fingerling, sumac, lemon confit - it was pretty good, but I would forgo this one. Potatoes were nice and tender. There was something julienned in there, and I'm guessing it's like myer lemon rind? No clue but whatever it was, there was a lot of it, and it was a bit overwhelming. We ended up trying to eat around it, but they were so entangled with the fresh greens within the dish.4. Beef wellington. I have been waiting all my life for this. I saw beef wellington at Gordon Ramsay's at Atlantic City, but I didn't get it due to trust issues. I had a knock-off Beef Wellington at HUP, but that doesn't count. I've never seen it again until here, and it was spectacular. The pastry puff was so soft and flaky, and the beef was so juicy. It comes with this to-die-for bordelaise. Everything about it was so perfect.5. Lobster Mac and cheese - so good! This can be hit or miss at places (e.g. very fishy). I like how they mince the lobster meat it's more homogenously mixed, so you get lobster in every bite! Some places just sprinkle lobster on top as if they're chives. Always a fan of capanelle too! 6. Forest mushrooms - I loved this. While I love mushrooms, I generally do not like mushroom sides because it tends to be extremely salty for me. It was delicious here.7. Chocolate souffle cake with salted caramel sauce a la mode - whoa! This was like an ultra-refined version of your molten lava cake. I don't even love chocolate, but this one was a winner. I'm excited to come back to try the pineapple upside down. 8. Amazing service! They cut your steak in front of you too! Last person to cut anything for me was my mom.9.Drinks No. 21 and No. 8 - also solid bourbon based choices. Go for the No 8. You will NOT be disappointed. I'm not providing any more spoiler alerts. If I still lived down the street I'd be here all the time!

.. from the ambiance to the service to the food. Highly recommend for a special occasion, or just a regular Thursday night. Special shout-out to the cocktails and baked Alaska!

Visited here last week and didn't feel the meal lived up to the hype. We were excited to get a last minute reservation due to someone else cancelling. The service was friendly and professional from start to finish, but the food left much to be desired. We started with a couple of cocktails that were fantastic (No. 112 was my favorite) and ordered several appetizers. The wedge salad was great, but our clover rolls seemed to be slightly burnt and therefor had an unpleasant and bitter taste. We also tried the oysters rockefeller and agreed that we had tried much better at other restaurants. I had the lamb rack which I felt was good, but did not knock my socks off. He had the beef wellington and was unimpressed which was extra disappointing because he had been talking about it for days prior. Our sides, the pomme purre and the mac & cheese, weren't nearly as tasty as they looked online. The environment of the restaurant is super cozy and uniquely decorated. Definitely a cool experience with the speakeasy style entrance, but we just wish the food had lived up to what we had been promised in the reviews.
Be the first to ReplyHIGHLY impressed with this steakhouse.
Came in for a late night dinner (reservations are sparse and the restaurant is small/intimate). When we arrived, we rang a bell and the host opened a small window and asked for the name on our reservation. He then opened the door and allowed us in. The restaurant is quaint and beautiful. It is perfect for date night. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I wasn't necessarily as impressed with our waiter. He seemed overwhelmed and his attention felt forced. We didn't love our waiter but really enjoyed Dana's passion in describing our food when she brought it to our table. She seemed so enthusiastic and sweet. I was also able to meet a couple of the kitchen staff, Jose and Alfredo, that were super amazing! Onto the best part, the food!! We started off with the octopus: the moment I knew I was in the right place. The octopus came with fingerling potatoes and a perfect lemon confit that gave the dish a perfect kick. Next, we ordered the Branzino and the Grass Fed Filet for our main course. For our sides we had the grilled broccoli and mac n cheese. Everything was FANTASTIC. The Branzino was deboned and perfectly cooked. So was the steak. It was exactly how I ordered it. The star of the sides was definitely the mac n cheese. It had a crispy top layer with a creamy and cheesy middle. Best mac n cheese I've had in a very LONG time!! Lastly, we had the baked Alaska for dessert and it was such a unique experience. I've never had anything like it. I simply cannot wait for my next visit here!! If you're going to visit, make sure you make plans well ahead of time!

This is my second time at Alpen Rose and it won't be my last. From the wizard of oz door to the intimate setting, this place has become a favorite of mine. The service here is phenomenal. The servers are so upbeat, accommodating and knowledgeable. I started off with a really refreshing drink, I can't remember the number but if you like tequila and cucumber, this is a fun refreshing option. The seafood tower was amazing. I could have done without the tuna, and not because it wasn't great but because I demolished the entire tower to myself, the tuna was seafood overload. The steak was cooked to perfection, I paired it with a delicious French Malbec. For dessert I had the apple pie with vanilla ice cream to go.

This was our second time here and I am convinced this is still one of the top 2 or 3 dining experiences in Phila and definitely the best steakhouse. Service was exceptional as were the drinks. My steak was best I have had in years. When my daughter had an issue with her chicken ( she just does not like wood grilled food) they graciously cooked a chicken dish just for her which was sublime. Yes, it is a hassle for non Center City residents to get here ( we did Uber), but it is well worth it. I honestly think if Michelin ever covered Phila, this restaurant would get rated highly. Staff is very attentive- like the 5 star establishments in NYC. I love the ambiance also, and as before, as we got here early we went next door to one of the owner's other establishments for a drink. A wonderful dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyIn awe of this place.
Best meal I've had in many years. Wellington: wow. Ribeye: wow. Even the salad (chopped) was amazingly good. Staff were friendly and "there". Will be back for sure

We came here on the recommendations of friends for a special night out. There was a party of four and we had a 30 minute wait for a table. They kept encouraging us to go get a drink next-door but we chose to walk around the block until about 30 minutes later. There is plenty of to see and do in Center City. If I had been more hungry, I would probably have been more upset at the wait. They did give us a complementary bone marrow toast as a thank you for the wait time. Drinks were great, the cocktail number 8 was quite strong With double proofed bourbon. It also came in flames next to the table, which is very exciting. They were also able to make a virgin cocktail for my husband who does not drink, and that was excellent with rosewater and honey. The ambience feels like a old school library at Harvard where they chose to put a dining hall.We had a variety of sides and mains to share as we wanted to try everything. Our friends raved about the Beef Wellington and the quality was impeccable. I also love that they will help you cut up the steak at a little station next to your table if you're splitting, which is what we did with the porterhouse. We even got the bone to take home for our friends dog. In terms of sides the mashed potatoes were definitely the best. But my personal favorite was the mushrooms, which had a hint of sour really cutting the overall heaviness of the meal. For dessert we had the Baked Alaska and the chocolate soufflé. At the end we all agreed that the Baked Alaska was much more exciting, but the attention to detail on the soufflé with the cookie crumbs was emblematic of the great evening. Almost took a star off for the wait but the service, ambiance and quality brought it back.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, great ambiance, waiter was wonderful.
Lost a star because we had to wait 20 min even with a reservation and another star because the table wasn't bussed properly and I got someone else's leftovers on my clothes
Be the first to ReplyI came here as a special date night.
Make reservation is my first suggestion because the restaurant is small and there are not a lot of tables.I love the knock at the door approach and after we were confirmed, we were led to a table where we were waited on right away. Our server was very attentive and gave us recommendation on what to order. We loved every bite! We had a coal grilled steak, a whole roasted fish and a wonderful side of clover rolls, tasty purée of potatoes and charred broccoli. The best part is the bone marrow toast! It was so good! I wish we'd got two! If you are looking for a dinner for a special night, this is definitely worth the effort of going!

Steaks and related are fantastic and the cocktails don't disappoint!
Be the first to ReplyCelebrated our anniversary at Alpen Rose last night, and it
Celebrated our anniversary at Alpen Rose last night, and it was a great dinner experience overall.Alpen Rose's dining room was beautiful. Everything from the dimly lit lights, tufted leather seats, bookshelves and chandeliers gave the place a sexy and intimate ambiance. As we settled in, our server brought us two glasses of complimentary sparkling wine as we were celebrating a special occasion. Throughout the night, other couples around us were also celebrating special occasions. They also got complimentary sparkling wines. What an incredibly thoughtful and nice touch by the restaurant.I heard great things about the food at Alpen Rose and were looking forward to our meal. To start, we ordered a couple of cocktails. The No. 3 and No. 21. Both were okay. Then came our appetizer, the bone marrow toast. Probably my favorite dish of the night. The beef cheek toast was delicious. Layered with the bone marrow was the perfect bite.Alpen Rose is known for their dry-aged steaks, so for our main course, we shared the 32oz dry-aged Porter House. For 2 people, it was plenty. The steak was prepared medium rare as requested, and was pretty good, but not great. The hot sauce and the steak sauce were ok too -- not really needed to eat your steak with, but maybe for fries or onion rings. The side of onion rings we had was fried in a light batter which I liked and paired great with our steak. The grilled turnips were smoky and served on top some kind of vinaigrette. The vinaigrette acted as a great dip for the steak, like a chimichurri. Probably would not recommend ordering the turnips just for that though. For dessert, it was pretty much a no-brainer. We had to get the baked Alaska. Our server set the dessert on our table, and poured rum that was already lit with fire, on top of it. What a sight to behold! Such a fun and sweet way to end the night. Our entire dinner probably lasted about 2 hours. Service was a bit slow but I didn't mind it. Overall, I have to give the food a 4/5, but the service was top notched. 6/5.
