I've been eyeing this restaurant for years, and I finally got delivery today. I was finishing the movie The Menu, and decided that I wanted an elevated dining experience at home so I finally gave in and ordered. In case you haven't seen The Menu, it's about a restaurant serving high brow meals that are more fanciful than necessarily flavorful. It's about how restaurants are often pushed to be more innovative and cerebral to the point that the actual pure dining experience can suffer. Then the gourmand patrons were punished for forcing a celebrity chef to get to this point.Unfortunately, my meal reminded me a lot of The Menu. My meal arrived looking so colorful and inviting, but the actual flavors lacked in the end. I started with the octopus and pork belly over rice. The only delicious part of the meal was the pico de gallo on the sides, which mixed beautifully with the rice. The pork belly and octopus lacked seasoning. I understand the desire to let natural flavors stand on their own, but it just felt neglectful. Certain foods NEED salt at least! If you order this, prepare to use salt, other seasonings, and a sauce on the proteins. The rice was pretty good, but again could use a little love.I also got the queso with chorizo, since I'm a firm believer that cheese makes everything better. Clearly I was wrong! The cheese was the equivalent of a slightly warm shower- it's better than nothing, but left me feeling deflated. Dejected. Confused. I really don't understand where the flavor was here. This is the perfect meal to have while watching The Menu, or if you have salt restrictions on your diet, or if you don't mind seasoning your own food. If I was dragged here by friends I could smile and go along with it, so while it's not the best it's not the worst. Godspeed!

Went to Alta Calidad last night for dinner and really enjoyed my time there. Our server/bartender was Eric, and he is just FABULOUS. He made a delicious cold brew martini for me, as well as recommended the Roasted Fish tacos. My friend got the Carne Asada tacos. We were just out looking for a laidback dinner, but Eric made it extra fun. The food came out quickly, and although it was only 2 tacos a platter, we were stuffed afterwards. That didn't stop us from getting the Tres Leches carrot cake, which was perfect... I really enjoyed the flakes on top. Overall, Alta Calidad is a fun, yet intimate location where the service feels very personable and the food is good to boot!
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot, will be back.
Went for brunch on Saturday and was very impressed. Cute airy space, very reasonable priced food and drinks, and nice staff. We had a reservation and they were nice enough to allow us to move from a high top to a low top table. The horchata cocktail was the only miss, but the margarita and the mezcal drink were both excellent. 4 of us shared 2 apps, each got a main, and had coffee and drinks and including tax and tip it was $50 per person (which to me seems very reasonable for nyc brunch with drinks). We will be back because the desserts looked excellent but we were stuffed. For food we had:queso fundidoyuca totsbreakfast quesadillachilaquilesfish tacospancakes

I almost don't want to give this place 5 stars because I don't want it to get more popular! This place is amazing! Their fundido is the closes I've come to mid-West Mexican white queso. But everything we had was great (other than the horchata cocktail)!!!

I always see this place hopping when I walk by so even though Mexican is not my go-to cuisine, we decided to give this place a try. Overall, we had a nice experience. The servers are attentive but not overbearing. The tacos were tasty and interesting. We didn't love the duck a la plancha, but I'm a tough customer when it comes to duck. The yuca tots will be disappointing if you go in expecting the crunch texture of tater tots. Instead, they have a light exterior crisp and a creamy inside. I thought they were delicious once I adjusted my expectations. I'll come back to try more!

Came here in a big group for lunch on a weekday and had a wonderful time! Their menu is great and there's something for everyone. We started with the guacamole which was really delicious and then most people in our group ordered tacos and a side. The tacos are only 2 per serving but it's still a big portion because they are generous in their toppings! I ended up being too full to eat most of my side which was rice and beans. All the tacos are served on corn tortillas which are really good too. The staff was extremely friendly and patient with our large group. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're in the neighborhood and are looking for flavorful and unique tacos!
Be the first to ReplyI had a great time at Alta Calidad.
The wait staff was incredibly friendly and patient with my group of indecisive (mostly me) costumers. During the summer, they sometimes shut down the street nearby which is nice when dining on the sidewalk. This is also a great place to come for drinks. I loved all of the tacos that I tried. The mango salsa and pistachio mole on the roasted fish tacos was excellent. If you love yuca, you absolutely have to try the yuca "tater tots" with chipotle aioli. The tacos are filling!! Keep that in mind if you also want to try their churros or tres leches carrot cake.

Pricey but soooooooo good! I always get the pork shoulder and yuca fries. If you can swipe an extra spicy mayo; do it! The flavor of the sauce goes perfectly with the Yuca and you'll want to dip each ball multiple times! The pork shoulder is fatty and juicy with so much flavor and your mouth will drip with the fat and juice from each bite. You can tell the cooks here actually love their jobs and want to have the highest quality of ingredients. Yummy!

Despite their own website saying you cannot make reservations to sit outside, all the tables outside were reserved. When challenged, they indicated they haven't been able to change their website. Doesn't give me very high hopes for the food if they can't manage the "walk-ins" they apparently welcome.

Man...... when I say this place not only have good food. They're being creative with it also. Food presented on plates nicely, servers always around. I never gave a five star before.... I would have gave 6 stars if it was possible.... You know what, anything is possible. 10

I stopped in around 9:30pm to order something for take out. It was one of the few places open late. The restaurant is small but has some outdoor seating and bar seating. I chose to wait outside until my food was ready. Service was fast and friendlyThe grilled Mexican street corn is everything you love from Mexican street corn just without the hassle of biting into a cob. It was flavorful and slightly spicy. I pretty much at the whole bowl of it.I also ordered both the beef brisket and roasted fish tacos. They were equally excellent bites. The one thing I wasn't much a fan of, was the yuca tots. I was expecting it to be crispy like tater tots but it was more like a fried ball of mashed potatoes. Not crispy at all. I did like the chipotle aioli that comes with the dish though. I've been here a couple times and must say that the food has been consistently good. This is a great place to try if you're in the area. It also makes for a cute date night as its dimly lit.
Be the first to ReplySpectacular food.
I seriously dream about the yuca tots and the squash blossom quesadilla. I went once pre COVID and have been back twice in the last month. Plus their frozen drinks are great on a hot day.

I had a business meeting here last year and 21 and tried A few things from their menu I return several times afterwards and was always pleased
Be the first to ReplyI highly recommend splurging on fancy tacos here.
They are full past the brim with savory goodness and will light up your senses as a good taco should - fancy or not. The chips are unusually excellent and I highly recommend the yucca puffs as well. Sharp cocktails. The restaurant is small, chic, and intimate - perfect place to impress a date.
Be the first to ReplySecond visit here on a busy weekend night.
We sat outside which made for great people watching, e.g. the guy on a bike balancing a full trash can on his head (no joke). The service was great for us, contrary to what others have shared. Hostess was attentive as were our waiter and busser. We ordered the shrimp tacos, pork tacos, pumpkin quesadilla and chips with guacamole. It was more than enough food for two people. The shrimp were so large that it was challenging to eat and a bit messy. It was also fried which was surprising and that's pretty much all I tasted. The pork was tasty. It comes on a big platter and you make your own taco. I could have eaten it right off the plate, forget the tacos. The quesadilla was interesting, like nothing I've ever had, similar to squash in terms of texture and taste. I wouldn't necessarily order it again but I'm glad we tried it. Chips were salty and crispy, a good foil for the guacamole. I'd give this place another try. It has a nice vibe. The food didn't blow my mind but maybe it was just a busy night.

I was going to eat this restaurant but the hostess was so rude. A definite turn off if that the way customers are treated. Hostess are the first person a customer meets so if that was any sign to the customer service I will just go someplace else . Ended up at the Italian place next door . Warm and welcoming.

I regularly come to Alta Calidad and enjoy the food and service. However, I am deducting a star for what would have been a 5-star review because of my experience this evening. I made a reservation for 6 people two weeks ago and when I showed up, they sat us in the SHED when it was in the mid-80s. The temperature in the shed was even hotter and we had a child in our group. No one else was sitting in the shed, and it had multiple tables inside. On the other hand, all the outdoor seating with umbrellas were taken. I just don't understand how you can expect customers with reservations to sit in a sauna... place was packed and would have liked it if they actually reserved a nicer table outside. Fortunately, we found another restaurant who could accommodate us but NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: it is nearly summer, please upgrade the shed to an open-air seating situation.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great spot to have in prospect heights.
Fresh, delicious food and amazing cocktails. Had the El Jardin and the spicy pineapple margarita. Both were amazing and neither was too sweet, which is usually my complaint about fruity drinks. The guac was a generous portion and amazing. The chips are seasoned with tajin which is delicious. The street corn is top notch. I also had the fried shrimp tacos which had a delicious red sauce on them. The yucca tots were the only less than exceptional thing, nothing wrong just nothing amazing. Would definitely go again and excited to try more of the menu!

Popped in for a quick lunch on the way to the Brooklyn botanic gardens. What a nice treat! We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered the grilled fish tacos and the vegetable tacos. Not only were they beautifully presented but they were packed with flavor. Too often, fish tacos are battered and fried, not only making them harder to eat, but adding unnecessary calories to the dish. These fish tacos were beautifully prepared with a very flavorful crema. The only complaint was that the P shoot could have been cut up in more bite-size pieces. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it.

Cute intimate place - perfect for a date night! The menu was not huge but everything we ordered was delicious! Get the taco tray if you have enough people! The shrimp taco was one of our favorites! The octopus and pork belly dish was amazing! Easy to share! The yucca tater tots were also balls of deliciousness! I've had yucca fries before but to have it presented in tater tot form was genius! Drinks there were also remarkable! My husband thought the spicy pineapple margarita was the best margarita he ever had! My personal favorite was the la Lora because I love Campari - but it wasn't too overwhelmingly bitter if you are not a Campari fan. It cut the sweetness in the cocktail which made it so enjoyable to drink!

Bad experience here I didn't have a reservation here so i was told to wait an hr then watch another couple walk up that's white and he also said he didn't have a reservation she sat him them down so i still waited patiently then another white couples come up with an reservation she sit's them down as well at the point i see they're being prejudiced here and bias here so me and wife just kindly took our money somewhere else discrimination is very much alive at this place
Be the first to ReplyLet me preface this paragraph by saying that the food
Let me preface this paragraph by saying that the food itself is 5 stars. If you're looking to go somewhere that has bomb, elevated Mexican cuisine, Alta Calidad is your spot. With that being said--The 3 stars is for everything else that overshadows their food and quality of ingredients. They seem to hire servers that exclusively have a bad attitude and who make zero efforts to take care of their customers. For food that isn't exactly inexpensive, and as a server myself, I expect an AVERAGE amount of consideration, at least. My boyfriend and I have been here 4 times. 3 of those times we sat at a table, 1 time at the bar. The bartender was extremely accommodating and great at her job. That appeared to be a one-off as the three times at the table, we were often left waiting for long periods of time without placing orders, and then waiting even longer for the food to come out. The last time we were here, we waited FIFTEEN minutes to be asked what we wanted to order, in an empty restaurant. The initial drink order came out wrong, and we were met with a startled reaction when I had asked to change it. The food took an equally long time to come out, and when we asked to order a side of guacamole (which we have done every time we've been there), the waiter told us the price would be $18.00. For a side of guacamole. EIGHTEEN.Eighteen is the price of salsa and guacamole, plus chips at this place. We ordered that initially, and upon learning that our now-empty guac would cost an additional $18 to reorder, I was floored. What? On what planet is a small side of guac the same price as a full appetizer? The cherry on top of this newly inflated price was the aforementioned smug attitude of the waiters and the wait times, both consistently long and bad.I love this place but they need to work on vetting their staff. Very cold people who give the sense that they're holier than thou. Do better for your customers.
Be the first to ReplyFirst the positive- great waitstaff and nice drinks.
Food was very meh. Had the pumpkin quesadilla which was bland and underwhelming. There wasn't enough filling, only a bit in the center. The fish taco was dry and also meager. If someone forced me to eat here again, I would order the octopus.
