Apart from the fact that I lived in Italy for 5 years so know my Italian food, this menu takes traditional and on-traditional dishes to the next level. The Tagliata di Manzo (w/Wagyu beef) was out of this world and also the fennel salad. We shared the arancini, tuna tartare, agrumi salad, lumache, pasta with tomato, tiramisu and biscotti and honestly there was not a dish that did not excel among them. I am dreaming of going back for the tagliata and fennel salad already.
Be the first to ReplyAltro Paradiso has been on my radar for a long time, as
Altro Paradiso has been on my radar for a long time, as I've seen their burger featured in plenty of "best NY burger" food blogs. It is only served during lunch, so it's been hard for me to track down until a recent day off. Luckily, there was a table open when we had walked in, so we were seated quickly, and our order was taken soon after that. When the burger came out, I was surprised by how small/simple it was given the $30 price tag. I took a bite, and while it was good, it was not worth the price. Fries were okay, but I have had better. One thing I did appreciate was the olive oil aioli, which was quite unique vs other places. All in all, it was a fine experience, but if I'm going to be paying $30 for burger and fries, I'm likely to go to elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyMy review focuses solely on the dishes I tasted.
..probably the most remarkable item was bread and ricotta/oil. Meatballs/Polpette with hot sauce did not have an interesting flavour and tasted cheesy... rather than meaty Candele cacio & pepe: I would define this pasta as a mere embarrassment. I chose to be open to fresh pasta (vs dry pasta), even though I was not familiar with "candele" pasta shape ...the dish was dry, the pasta just absolutely off for the kind of sauce, and zero mantecatura, cheese was off including scales of parmigiano or who knows which cheese... anyone with a cacio & pepe reference...that NOT a cacio & pepe, nor a good pasta Panna cotta was average.... service and ambiance pleasant.
Be the first to Replyclean inside :) food is very good.
Highly recommended! It's a corner restaurant you won't miss it. If you're coming by late night around 9pm, it's not so crowded.

I wanted to like this restaurant; it came highly recommended, and was the product of Ignacio Mattos, same guy who created Lodi. The food was terrible, akin to resort food. Mediocre dressed up to be "fancy." I don't mind prices, when the food is good. This food was not good at all. The arugula salad was good, but that is a given at a restaurant of this caliber. The space was cool, but from the get go the food wasn't good; the bread we received was cold. If you are not a foodie, and not very discerning about food, you might enjoy this. I certainly did not. Waaay overrated.
Be the first to ReplyNext level service.
We're new to wine and the Somm was great. Really loved the bottle she rec'd and had a lovely dinner. We've been here a few times and it's a bit pricier than we'd like, but we always knows we're going to get awesome service and an excellent meal.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great, but the service was awful.
The server clearly hated people or at least our table from the moment we were seated. He made it a point to make sure we felt uncomfortable the entire visit in addition to making ordering anything close to impossible. Not sure why anyone would hire staff like that, but it was very uncomfortable to try to sit through our meal with being harassed by our server.

It was good, but not great. The service was very spotty and rushed, not up to par with expectations. Very loud and crowded space, not great for a romantic date, if that's what you're looking for. Pasta was just OK. Really enjoyed the fennel salad (portion is huge! shareable). Cocktails were also OK.

Excellent! Great Ambiance, delicious food and great service! We had no reservation and they seated us at the bar, the bartender was AMAZING!
Be the first to ReplyStunning meal.
I've loved Estela for years for its innovative flavors, Altro Paradiso is equally delicious. I was neutral before the meal - the menu seemed full of dishes I've had many times (tuna tartar, burrata, steak, pastas) but WOW, each one was truly unique and extradorinaiy. I thought I didn't like panda cotta (served here with some sea salt, balsamic, and cherries) and I made us order a second one it thrilled me that much. The burrata was served over candied Italian fruit which was divine, the steak with a full bulb of roasted garlic. I can't wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place, killer pastas and wine.
The cacio e pepe is great, limone capellini was great, also great whole branzino. Have only been with pescatarians so I've yet to have the steak for two. Also the fennel salad is better than any other salad you've had. Cool spot for a fancy-ish meal in soho.
Be the first to ReplyOur first time was average at best.
We unfortunately gave them another chance and it was horrific. They basically refused to accommodate one of our guests food allergies due to only serving a limited menu that night (despite no prior warning of the limited menu) and were shockingly unapologetic. Completely unacceptable. We will never be back due to their poor attitude about being accommodating. There are enough other places in NYC to try that have been a lot more welcoming to a relatively common allergy and without the aggravation and attitude.
Be the first to ReplyI had lunch at Altro Paradiso today.
It was my first time back here in a few years. I remember when it was called Cafe Altro Paradiso. Anyway, the food's still good and service is still pleasant. I got the same thing I had last time - arancini balls and Wagyu burger. The arancini balls have a slight sweetness to them. The cheese used is fontina cheese. The Calabrian chili sauce on the side was spicier than I expected. Wagyu burger is good, but note that it comes out medium rare by default. I asked if medium could be accommodated, but when I got my dish it was still a little under for me. No biggie. I will note that the fries have changed from what they were a little over four years ago. Instead of the crispy and soft home fries type, what you get now is more traditional. Still a decent blend of crispy and soft, but not the same. See photo. Overall, still a nice restaurant to have lunch in. Impressive space, looks like the well to do eat here. The bathroom has Aesop liquid soap.
Be the first to ReplyI was here earlier in the week.
It was quite busy and it was clear they wanted to turn over the table quickly. We originally ordered the arancini and burrata. Luckily, the waiter asked me about my allergies because he comes over to me later to inform us the arancini is fried in peanut oil. They really should mention that on the menu. The burrata was delicious. Sweet and savory at the same time. I ordered the cacio e Pepe which was really good. The noodles are quite long so you have to cut them. I was surprised they didn't offer parmesan for the pasta. They ran out of the chocolate gelato. We ordered passion fruit instead. It wasn't my favorite. A bit sour. Other tables got a bread basket. We each got one piece of bread but was told it came with our burrata. The 4 stars is for feeling like they were kicking us out as soon as we arrived and for not indicating an allergen on the arancini.

Giving this two stars given that the cocktails were excellent; otherwise low rating due to food and service. We were seated 25 mins past our reservation, and I echo the sentiments of others about portions being small, overpriced, and bland and unimaginative. Nothing was impressive or memorable outside of the cocktails.
Be the first to ReplyI came here on a Saturday specifically for the burger.
I booked my reservation on Resy and Resy indicated that 5pm was still considered lunch so I booked it. When I came, the burger was not on the menu. They said they had no oysters which was confusing considering they have etched in the bar mirror Oysters All Day. The waitress asked us if we wanted any drinks from the bar and we said no. She seemed annoyed. We were ready for appetizers but not the main course and asked the waitress if we could order it. She said no, she had to place the table's order all together. This made no sense considering the party was only 2 people. The waitress did not check in on us even once. The waitress didnt even bother to serve us the water, she just left it behind on a bench from our table. This is a "fancy" place per say but they couldn't even serve us water. Even the staff at diners go around the tables and serve water. On top of that, the pasta was undercooked. Considering this is an Italian place, you would think this would not be an issue. I will say that the arancini was good, I liked that the sauce had a good amount of heat. Although, it's not really a shareable appetizer because you only get 3 portions. Cutting it in half would mess up the filling. The only other saving grace was that the black male waiter was extremely nice. The waitress was not busy so there was no excuse for her behavior. This spot was well reviewed under food bloggers and critics but I think they gave it a good review too quickly.
Be the first to ReplySquid linguine and cuddlefish was quite good.
Also loved the fried artichoke. Would recommend.

Don't let this girl ever leave your team. Citrus salad was amaze. Sea urchin pasta was yum. Cocktails were delish. Love the vibe. Ignacio I bow down to you and all your restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyPretty great italian food.
Wonderful appetizers - bread came from sister restaurant. Cuddlefish cooked perfectly (not chewy). Pomodoro so full of flavor when I tried the cacio I felt it needed some salt to reach the level of my pasta. When we asked about dessert wines, had a fantastic woman suggest an amaretto and the espresso martini. Great for a date night, dimly lit nice ambiance and loud people all around.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is over priced and the food isn't great at all.
The manager or owner or whatever she is was rude and was pushing us to buy into a prefix menu at 150 per person because we came with a seventh person after having made a reservation for 6. Maybe she was having a bad day. The servers were nice but her attitude sucked and she pretty much kicked us out as soon as the clocked hit closing time despite us spending a solid amount of money. Again the servers were great. But she was horrible. Attitude is everything in the service industry. This place will fail under such poor leadership. I feel bad for the staff they looked over worked and stressed. Not coming back and don't recommend. Go to Bar Pitti. Better authentic Italian food. Better service. Great attitudes.

I was approaching this restaurant on Spring street, and it looked inviting. I thought it would be a good place to grab some pasta and a glass of wine. Then I saw a water standing behind a little podium where spare silverware and such are kept. He clearly thought passersby could not see him, but we could! Much to my horror, I observed this waiter pulling out a butter knife and vigorously itching his back with great gusto and every direction possible. I was not the only horrified onlooker.I kept going.
Be the first to ReplyNice ambiance and great service.
Vegetarian options we got included the arancini, cacio e pepe, and spaghetti pomodoro. Cacio e pepe was delicious with unique thick noodles. Spaghetti was kind of bland and needed salt. Definitely get the arancini!Biggest complaint is the table was super small and we kept knocking stuff over.
