Best brunch ever
This was the best brunch I’ve ever had. The size of the plates was perfect to be able to try everything. Adriana was a great server and overall this was an amazing brunch experience.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food…not actually “endless”
The food was delicious. Service is somewhat slow, which wouldn’t be a problem generally. However, the advertised “endless dinner” is a misnomer as you are only given 2 hours. Servers are attentive and polite.

Great spot. Please set a reservation because they definitely are booked, rightfully so. The food servings were great and the sangria was even better. Shout out to our server Paul. Customer service at its finest . Super friend and welcomed any question we had at any point even if he had his hands full. Thank you again my guy.

Be the first to ReplyAmazing Service & Delicious Food
I absolutely LOVED having lunch at Ambar. Our host, Sean/Shawn/Sean (I want to spell their name right!) was a complete joy. The food was spectacular! Service was quick, which was a pleasant surprise given how much food we feasted on. Our host was so thoughtful and careful when it came to my food allergies and my friend's food restrictions due to chronic illness. They took the time to go through everything on the menu we could or couldn't have AND made plates without certain ingredients so that I could still enjoy what my friends were having without an adverse reaction. Dessert was AMAZING! My sangria was tasty. I will be back!
Be the first to ReplyGood value for money, tasty food & attentive staff
All you can eat at an affordable price, extensive menu, tasty food, $6 glass of wine during happy hour, attentive staff - what's not to love? Of the 10 or 1 1 dishes that I ordered, these were my favourite: Sarma 'Pork Belly Stuffed Cabbage', Slow Roasted Lamb, Stuffed Pepper, Sesame Seared Salmon, Brussel Sprouts.

A fun experience- it gave the opportunity to try many types of food that would otherwise be unfamiliar. Most everything was great- we really enjoyed ourselves,
Be the first to ReplyGreat evening here !
Come with friends after a day of work, what a pleasure to be received in this way! Great welcome, succulent meal, pleasant staff! A dream evening, we even joked with the owner who had understood that we were lawyers on Washington Dc, we did not forget it, I recommend this restaurant 👍

This may have been the best food I have ever eaten. $50 per person unlimited food served tapas (small portion) sized. We shared everything and left with full bellies. The food was beautifully presented and so flavorful. You would take a bite of something and it would give you different bursts of flavor as you savored it. Highly recommend. It is a small space though so I also recommend reservations.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful blend of classic and modern ; we loved this restaurant.
My wife is Croatian and we love Balkan cuisine, the tapas style was a fantastic approach , and the chef is really outstanding. We were visiting DC and highly recommend a visit to Ambar . Great service , three distinct rooms , excellent range of regional wines and Rakia in a modern and stylish setting-go , you will love it.

Ambar had it all. Seated for our reservation right on time. The bartender was very helpful guiding us through the menu and answering any questions we had. Cocktails were great and the atmosphere was prefect. Please go hungry because You will want to order everything on the menu. I you get a chance get a sample of the quince brandy. Very unique brandy with a cool history. Would recommend Ambar to anybody. All around great place.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre food ok service
I was surprised of the quality of the food most bland or cold served the only dish good was the stuffed red pequillo the rest is little or no seasoning the eggplant purée no flavor the quinoa salad nothing inside only cooked with water very bad the chicken was over cooked the lamb have good flavor but no jus or herbs serve with one piece of potato and carrot ! Service ok but nerved remove empty plates also when we arrived wanted to seated us on small table of 4 and we are 5 persons I’m not going to recommend this restaurant dessert was ok nothing special too expensive for the quality overall

This place is wonderful. Great service, great food. Wonderful opportunity to try a range of different dishes. Atmosphere is lively but not uncomfortably loud. Would certainly return.
Be the first to ReplyDelightful surprise
Ambar was a wonderful surprise. At 7 pm on a cold Sunday evening in late November we searched for a restaurant in town that had heated outdoor seating. (My sweetheart is immune compromised and doesn't want to eat indoors.) We found Ambar near the top of the restaurant list on Tripadvisor, looked at the menu, and liked what we saw. We called the restaurant and were told they could accommodate us, so off we went. The hostess suggested the covered seating on the street was the warmest spot and set us up there with 3 heaters that made us quite comfortable even with the outside temperature in the 30s. We selected the fixed price, unlimited menu option which offers the choice of tapas size portions of a wide variety of foods. We sampled many and were delighted by virtually all. The 6 hr lamb, salmon and mussels were especially delicious. Our server, Roberto, was terrific. He was very congenial, attentive and very knowledgeable about the Balkan foods, their ingredients and preparation. The whole experience was first rate. Kudos to the owner and staff!
Be the first to ReplyIntentionally deceptive
Definitely one of the most awkward dining experiences I’ve ever had, anywhere in the world. They push their “Unlimited Menu” on you, and they don’t even make their process clear at all. There is an a la carte menu, but you MUST ask for it, as it is not in their QR code menu selection. Since we only had the Unlimited Menu to look at, we understood from the limited explanation of the menu that we could order a la carte from that menu—again, the only one we had access to. So when it came time to get our check the waitress said we had to pay the (super over-priced) $50 per person fee. We are not misers, but we definitely did not eat $200 worth of food between the four of us. The food was tasty, but that price is not reasonable, even by DC standards. The waitress knew exactly what she was doing and how she was doing it, and I’m sure the deception works on others, but it did not work on us. Anyway, the waitress took a rude tone with us, to put it mildly, and when it was time to pay, she took my credit card to the back for no apparent reason—the card reader was literally in her hand at the table. I’ll know just who to blame when my credit card number is stolen in a few days or weeks. I’ll also mention that my calm, easy-going husband was so upset by the waitress’ tone and deceptive strategy that he had to literally get up and leave the restaurant. This was my first experience at Ambar, and I’m glad it will be my last.
Be the first to ReplyFun and Flavorful Dining Experience
You don't see a whole lot of Balkans restaurants in the United States and Ambar demonstrates that that is a loss for all of us. We've been going to Ambar for about 5 years, but were unable to visit due to travel restrictions during the pandemic. We returned in November and found it to be every bit as good as we remembered it. The reference to "Balkan" food is deliberately ambiguous. The description flows roughly from the former Yugoslavia south and east into countries like Romania and Moldava. The food traditions are very flavorful with lots of lamb, sauces, and spices. Ambar used to have an Ala carte menu, but it's now mostly a $49.99 prix fixe. You pay the flat amount and they will basically get you anything you want on the menu for the next two hours. The arrangement is a lot like Spanish tapas with lots of small plates meant for sharing. The array is pretty large from spreads (yes, you want to try them) to soups and salads, to seafood, pork, and lamb, to prepared vegetables, to various cheese dishes, to slow-cooked entrees, to grilled food. The wait staff is enthusiastic and eager to show you or explain the offerings. Dining here is a lot of fun. As a tip, you'll probably want to order a few things at a time. They come out hot as soon as they are ready, so be prepared to order in stages, something that is made easy as the menu is divided into different sections. You'll want to try some things you have never had before to experience something new. We ended up writing our orders on some scrap paper we had, which speeded the process, but they ended up giving us some blank receipts toward the end. It might not hurt to bring a pen and some note paper to get everyone's order. The service is very attentive, so you should not experience any major delays. They have various wines and spirits ala carte, but there is also a drink pairing for something like $25, which is a pretty good bargain. The wines in the pairing are all from the Balkans. I had one from Moldava, which showed that wine from that region had vastly improved from the former Soviet days. The decor used to be somewhat rustic, but they've redecorated in a different style that is a little more polished but still very comfortable. This is a consistently excellent and enjoyable restaurant and great for meeting friends.
Be the first to ReplyReally great experience and endless food.
The food just kept coming! We had a group of eight and we all opted for the endless food option. It wasn’t even clear who was ordering the food just kept coming. We were never waiting for some thing and our waiter Sean was amazing. We had called ahead to ensure first floor seating for for a disabled party member and they readily accommodated. They even sat us a little early. They do strictly enforce their two hour time limit but that was OK as we were bursting at the seams by that point. They offer modified recipes to accommodate vegan and gluten-free patrons. Everything we had was delicious. The bill was a bit of a shock at the end because we bought wine that was not included in the endless drink but the good wine was worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyUnique and flavorful
Delicious craft cocktails & many Baltic food options! We suggest the experience, where you get to order multiple items off of the menu, basically all you can eat while you’re there, small plates allows you to try so many unique dishes, we had lunch here.
Be the first to ReplyVery good
I came here to celebrate my birthday with family. The food and service was good. At first I was unsure if the sample platters they gave us would be enough, but more and more came until I was literally about to burst!! Delicious. A very different experience.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an Experience! Ambar Experience and Unlimited Select Drinks! Do It All!
I am so glad a made reservations for this place. My fiancée and I went on a Saturday night around 730pm. Around 8pm it started to fill in. I would totally recommend the total Ambar experience! You get to try a little bit of everything. If 21+ spend the extra $25 for the unlimited select drinks. The food kept coming. Our waiter was very attentive, when she was swamped with drink orders, she recognized that we need assistance so she went to get help and had the front of the house manager help us out. The food. OMG THE FOOD! Balkan cuisine is now my favorite type of food! The food was very flavorful and the perfect temperature. We started out with the Lamb Soup, and it was so delicious and creamy. Their spreads were life changing. The Urnebes was so smooth and creamy and sent sparks of intense flavor to my brain. I did not have a favorite dish there were a multitude of dishes that was the highlight of the evening. The 6-hour Lamb was super tender, the meatballs where tight and delicious. The sauce that it was bathed in had some really subtle bite. everything was so hearty and filling. The were very accommodating with me with my peanut allergy. They seemed to general care about those who have dietary restrictions and food allergies. I will never forget this place.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, average service
I'd give this a 3.5 but went with 4 to be generous. Firstly I'd say the food is great and value for money I don't think you can beat in what is an expensive city. The menu has plenty of choices, but each meal is essentially a very small portion (think tapas but half the size again) so you have to try everything on the menu. The restaurant itself is set across 3 or 4 floors so its big but its also very busy. When we arrived nobody took our details, we had to go to the reception and tell them twice who we were before we finally got seated after 10 minutes of standing around (we had a reservation). We were right on top floor of the restaurant, and there was a very loud table of young locals near us who'd clearly enjoyed the unlimited drinks option a little too much. The waiter was very friendly and tried their best to keep us fed and watered but I think it was a struggle to manage the sheer number of customers and food that kept arriving upstairs. We ordered nearly everything but some food was missed and some arrived at the wrong table, they could do with being more organised My recommendation would be to order the meat dishes first as these were the ones missed and we weren't the only table with this issue. The unlimited drinks option is a great addition and reasonable priced, I had the lager and my wife had the white house wine which was nice.
Be the first to ReplyGreat $44 all you can eat option. Excellent meat dishes
Great unlimited option for $44. Good for menfolk who have hit the gym and then want to feed their weapons of war. Get all the slow roasted meat options.
