Fantastic Night at American Cut (Especially the
Fantastic Night at American Cut (Especially the Service!) I had an incredible return visit to American Cut! Everything was on point this evening. The star of the show was our waiter, Russ. He provided fantastic recommendations for both cocktails and wine pairings. We also indulged in some phenomenal appetizers, with the smoked wagyu and steak tartar being true standouts. Our entrees were equally impressive, particularly the porterhouse, tomahawk, wagyu, and the decadent mac and cheese. Even though my guests and I trekked down from uptown, the experience was absolutely worth it. The entire evening was amazing, and a big shoutout goes to the manager, Joey. The ambiance was also perfect for a client dinner or night out with great friends. Finally, major kudos to Adona, the hostess, who always greets us with warmth and exceptional hospitality - a true lifesaver after a long day.

New York has an array of steakhouses and I had heard good things about American Cut so I was looking forward to visiting. However, the food and service were nothing to write home about. I will say that the ambiance is nice and several of the dishes are nicely presented. However, beyond that I was not particularly impressed, especially for an upscale steakhouse. The steak was only okay. The onion rings I had heard about were positively revolting and not at all crispy; we barely touched them which went ignored or purposely unnoticed by the server. Overall, the highlight was probably the appetizers or dessert.

Great atmosphere and service, but the steak was absolutely terrible. Maybe it was a bad night, but just awful....

Arguably one of the worst dining experience I've had in years. I don't frequent this restaurant but have been here a few times in the past and it's sad to say that it come down to this. This place is definitely missing some of the most basic fundamental hospitality. I usually have high tolerance when it comes to dining out because human being do make mistakes but what I despise is a server(B.V) with an attitude. It felt like he was doing us a favor for being our server. The front house staffs should definitely be better trained. Always ask before removing plates from the table, it happened twice that they took the plates away while one of us is still working on it. When it comes to foods both our steaks were overcooked, mac & cheese was hard and dry, burger was under seasoned but the succulent lobster toast, wine by the glass choices and cocktails were highlights of the night. Shortly after our first round of drinks there was a very professional gentleman name Armand presumably one of the managers stop by to greet us but for the next two hour there was not a single staff come by our table to check on us. Everyone basically just drop the foods and leave and we literally have to flag them down for everything else and it wasn't even a busy night. If you're charging your guests a premium price then you better give them a premium service, simple as that. On the reservation I stated explicitly that I'll pay for the tab and also kindly reminded the hostess upon arrival but the server just drop the check casually on the table at the end of the meal. Clearly lack of communication! For the other two either manager or sommelier, keep your phone in your pocket! It's very unprofessional to check it in the middle of the dining room repeatedly! Totally a front house management failure from the top and an absolutely regrettable dining experience!

So the ambiance here is very nice and corporate dinner-esque. But we didn't think the food was memorable or anything to write home about. We came for Restaurant Week so got to try a bunch of their hits. On the whole, things were bland. That includes the spinach, Mac & cheese, and the burger. Here's the standouts: - The biscuits they give you for free - The pickles that come on the side of the burger - The chili lobster soup
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful art deco feel restaurant.
The Jim Brady oysters are a must. The filet mignon was perfect. Potatoes with scallions and cheese tasty. The service is sensational. Russ our waiter He was great and one of the managers Armando fantastic. Wines by the glass delicious. Cheese cake eh.
Be the first to ReplySteak may have been overcooked, but perhaps I am weird.
I thought they had an interesting take on NY style, and happy hour was fun.

Beautiful dining room - traditional elegance with a modern twist. Lobster toast is incredible!

good, classic new york style steakhouse with all that you'd expect from that type of restaurant. the decor is stately and dark, big wooden tables and dark booths, very steakhouse chic. the staff are friendly, but not overly so, which adds to the ambience of a new york style steakhouse. when you first enter, there's a nice little entry way, which makes it way into the bar, which has plenty of lounge seating as you wait for your party. and then into the main restaurant itself. we went during restaurant week (summer 2023) and felt that the menu had a little bit for everyone, which is always helpful when you've got a slightly larger party. i love the bread service here, those everything bagel seasoning biscuits are chef's kiss. the steak was well cooked, can't complain. the bacon appetizer had quite a lot of bbq sauce on it, a little too much for my liking. overall -- i'd recommend, but know that it's also pricey (hey it's new york! and it's a steakhouse!).
Be the first to ReplyWe went during restaurant week and had a wonderful time.
The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the drinks were strong. Relaxing ambiance. Can't wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyCame her for my husbands birthday.
The lobster chili was very good but worth the almost 40 dollar price point? Not really. Its just 4 tiny pieces of lobster and a small amount of good bisque. The steaks were okay, nothing mind blowing. The NY strip had little hard fat pieces for some reason. Both steaks were burnt on the top so when you ate it theres a weird bitter taste in some bites. The jalapeño mashed potatoes are a literal nightmare. Its pureed potatoes that are very very goopy, really not mashes potatoes consistency, that are blended with a reduction of jalapeño skins. Its that awful green color and they taste like grass. Just spicy grass goop. The lobster mac and cheese was the only redeeming factor. I actually enjoyed it but again not something to write home about. We literally couldn't finish the food and just asked for the check to leave. I got a cocktail (forgot the name of) and my husband got a beer, both were dine. Service was fine. Overall very underwhelming and for the price point I would've expected at least good food. We've been to better steakhouses with exceptional food, cocktails, service, and desserts. In my humble opinion, this place is a skip for me.

The restaurant was very good, but we waited over an hour past our reservation time to be seated. They made it up to us with drinks and some free food, but an hour wait with a reservation still has to move it down a star. Would definitely go back to give it another shot!
Be the first to ReplyBelow average food.
Average Service. Drinks were below average. Wait staff did not know if they had prime or choice steaks. Steaks were a C minus. ( cooked correctly but zero flavor, zero salt, mealy/gritty texture, advertised as dry aged but had none of the distinct dry aged flavors). Drinks D minus ( had to send one back and the next one was a luke warm "dirty martini"). Service was a B minus (everyone was polite and attentive but were not knowledgeable about the food they were serving). Food was a D plus (sides were comparable to what you would expect at a ponderosa as far as freshness and flavor, steaks were below average on tenderness and flavor but cooked correctly).

We went to American Cut - Tribeca last night for dinner as a belated birthday celebration. We participated in the restaurant week menu: I ordered the wedge salad, ny strip, sunchoked spinach and cheesecake. My brother ordered the: grilled bacon, ny strip, potato purée, and mini Cracker Jack sundae. We also ordered the tuna tartot as an appetizer as well as a few drinks: the life boat and perfect cut and a glass of red wine (Vietti). The good:The restaurant is very pretty. The service by the waitstaff was attentive. The grilled bacon was delicious. The tuna tartot was our favorite dish.I enjoyed my glass of wine.Everything else was okay. Just okay. Nothing to write home about.Except, the steak. The NY Strip (dry age) was horrendous. It is our tradition to try a new steakhouse for my birthday and for his birthday. At this point we've been to quite a few. The steak we had here was by far the worst we have both ever had. Both steaks arrived cold/room temperature (definitely not fresh off the grill). I tried to cut into my steak and was having such difficulty to the point that I suggested to my brother maybe my steak knife was dull. But then he experienced the same issue when trying to cut into his. Both steaks were rubbery. They were not over cooked because the middle was very red (almost too red for me even though we both ordered it 'medium'). It just seems like it was bad meat. The taste was also very off. The consistency and flavor were both not good. We both did not eat our steak and left it on the plate throughout our meal. It was extremely disappointing for a restaurant that is supposed to be a steakhouse.I would not recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant week menu was perfect and a great price. Highly recommend!

We came here for the Winter 2023 tasting menu on a cold Friday night in February. We actually accidentally made our reservation for the wrong day but the hostess was very accommodating and still squeezed us in.For $60pp and given the normal menu prices, we thought the tasting menu was a good deal. Service was good as we were constantly checked on and left very full.

The food is always incredible, and the waiters are the absolute nicest people. We always go for birthdays and it never disappoints. We will continue to come back!
Be the first to ReplyModern steakhouse in Tribeca.
I was surprised to see how big the restaurant was and it had multiple bars.We did the restaurant week menu, which is an incredible deal. Ordered the wedge salad to start, petite filet with a side of spinach, and finished with the Cracker Jack sundae. $60 for the meal. The steak was good, but does not compare to some of the better steakhouses in Nyc. Would certainly recommend for restaurant week.

Our waitress here was probably the most warm and jovial staff member I've ever encountered at a steakhouse. Made for a great evening. Food is excellent, prices are surprisingly reasonable (even cheaper) when compared to a top-tier Chicago steakhouse.

Very solid steakhouse with great food, good decor, attentive friendly service; ticks all the boxes.A group of 12/14 of us had a back room with large circular table. Had a big 3 course dinner. My favorite's were the tuna "tartot" appetizer which looked like a desert cake, was tuna tartare on top of avocado, on top of a layer of crushed tater-tots, magnificent ! The strip steak was good, tuna steak also very good, solid wine selection as would be expected, and we shared a variety of deserts, my highlights were mini raspberry and lemon tarts.Decor is dark, opulent, steak house vibe. Overall fairly pricey but in general fancy steakhouses in NYC are not cheap. Our waitress was a rockstar and did a great job, learned several names, and looked after us all very well.

I had the pleasure and privilege to come here for a private corporate event. Firstly, the service was amazing and so timely. Everyone was wonderful, and continued to fill our drinks without hesitation! We first started off with multiple plates of the appetizers across the expansive (dare I say) table. Wow, could do for a lazy susan! All of the appetizers were incredible. We had the Caesar saladTuna Tar Tot (Soy Citrus, Avocado, Over Tater Tot) - MY FAVORITE Shrimp Cocktail Grilled Bacon - this was also very notable. Delicious! For the main (don't hate me) I got the Montauk Tuna with the piperade. I'm just not a big red-meat fan, but American Cut had something for everyone, and I was so full with that entree. The sides were served similarly to the appetizers, multiple at the table for all to take - and they were all excellent. Glad they had several veggie options :) POTATO PURÉE "ROBUCHON" - they can call it any fancy name they want but I have to say - amazing mashed potatoes - THIS MAY HAVE BEEN THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!! Heirloom carrotsBrussel Sprouts We ended the night with a smattering of desserts - an assortment of cookies and tarts, which made it an excellent time to reminisce on the delicious food we enjoyed moments before.Definitely dim lighting all around in the restaurant, but if you like that ambience, definitely the vibe. Only thing I would say is being in a larger party in the private room (the large round table) makes it hard to include more than three people in the discussion. I do recommend this restaurant for a VERY special occasion, with excellent food and service.
Be the first to ReplyHands down my favorite steak house in the city.
Everything is cooked perfectly, service and ambience can't be beat. Get the seafood tower, the bacon, and the bone marrow accompaniment. For sides our favs are the sunchoked spinach, hen of the woods mushrooms, and Mac and cheese.

Above average experience, but not without some areas of improvement.I came as part of a large group and we enjoyed a corporate event in the spacious area below the main level. The bar was well stocked and the overall menu was rather strong. Generally all the appetizers we had were solid. I was especially a fan of the tuna tartare and the shrimp cocktail. The bacon appetizer was also pretty tasty. As for the main course, I opted for the NY strip. It was generally speaking well cooked and the temperature was as requested. The flavor of the steak was good, but for some reason not as tasty as I expected. It wasn't a bad steak by any means, but maybe it was just not seasoned much. Something about the flavor just felt a bit underwhelming. However, it was still by and large a good steak. Maybe next time I should consider pairing it with some kind of sauce. Our dessert was a collection of small samplers. It was all fine. Generally speaking the overall experience was good and the service was also consistently excellent.
