Outstanding food abysmal service
Outstanding food let down by abysmal service. We had a 7 course tasting menu (plus a couple of canapé) - took over 3 hours, 20-30min between courses. When we complained we were told the “computer said our courses came out within 10-15min of each”. Do the maths! 180 minutes, 7 courses, 25min average per course. Had to fight for a 10% discount to the bill. Couldn’t enjoy last 2-3 courses as we were too full, rushed and bored, and had to completely miss last course as we were late. Staff perfectly friendly and competent (until we complained).
Be the first to ReplyMichelin Star…. Not on Saturday
Michelin star? Really…. A member of our family bought us a Red Letter voucher and we booked a tasting menu at this establishment. We also booked to stay at the South Place hotel where this restaurant resides. When we arrived I saw the tasting menu by the front door and was getting excited of the culinary skills and produce we were going to experience. The menu that was presented to us was not the same as the one on the door but a cheaper version. Rather than crab or lobster it was cod etc. I spotted this and asked if we could have the lobster and turbot menu and they declined. I said I would pay the extra but they could only offer me monkfish which I accepted. We were a party of four and my three other guests opted for the cod. As with any Michelin star restaurant the portions are not huge but when I looked at my wife’s and my sister-in-law plates half the cod was still there. I asked not nice? And they replied no it’s not cooked through. Raw in the middle. I know that Cod is not the best fish to eat raw as they eat worms from the seabed which can go through to the flesh. My monkfish just tasted of salt. We make the maitre de aware of the issues and he took off the service from the bill. Funny that as I believe by law that is optional. This place doesn’t deserve a Michelin star especially when I said to maitre de… I bet as it’s a Saturday and this restaurant is in the city the head chef is not working tonight? And he said no he doesn’t work Saturday! Maybe the prices should be cheaper on Saturday!! But sadly not. Needles to say I will never return
Be the first to ReplyVoucher disappointment
I booked this restaurant using a Buy a Gift Voucher given to me for my 50th Birthday. I booked a good few weeks ago to eat this Friday, the 10th February. I don't live in London so booked babysitters for my children. I received a phone call today, two days before my booking, to say that the menu had changed and my voucher would now not be accepted. I am now without my night out with my husband for my 50th as a result. A disgraceful way to treat a future customer. Accepting a voucher booking and then withdrawing so late in the day is a disgrace. Very disappointed and upset Birthday Girl.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch, great value.
Food was amazing and service was excellent. Great value for lunch as well with lots of extra snacks and delicious bread. We will definitely book again.
Be the first to ReplyBooking suspicion.
We had a virgin experence voucher to use for this restaurant. Firstly, we was told it wouldn't be valid as they no longer dealt with Virgin. After explaining that we had brought it for that very restaurant, we was then passed to another person. This person confirmed that yes, our voucher was still valid & we could book. We was then transferred back to the original person who then wanted credit card details & lots of other information. We go quite often to good restaurants and never have we been made to feel like criminals. We have subsuquently changed the voucher for a better restaurant, which didn't have all the suspicion surrounding it.
Be the first to ReplyStranded in London
Stuck in London due to train strikes, so I thought I’d come and check out Angler’s tasting menu. First comment: I found the dining room cramped and too bright in terms of lighting. Full credit to the maître d’ for moving me on request, but I’m glad I booked for 9pm as I wouldn’t have enjoyed myself at a busier time. Food was awesome almost all the way through - the only dud for me was the lobster ravioli, which had the texture of a custard tart and very little lobster in it! The accompanying wine flight was smart and well thought-through. The perfumed NZ Chardonnay that accompanied the monkfish was absolutely sensational, as was the red Marsannay that came with the Turbot - it was gossamer-light and the perfect foil for the deep umami of the fish and squid. Service was utterly professional if a little sterile. Solid experience altogether.
Be the first to ReplyFood great, service poor…
Really enjoyed the food but with the exception of one member of staff, really disappointed with service,
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and wonderful food
Great relaxed venue with friendly unpretentious staff . Food looked stunning and tasted the same . Any argue with its high ratings . Would recommend

We had the tasting menu, every course was cooked to perfection and offered something different. The service was excellent, informative and not intrusive. I don’t generally eat dessert and chose the pear, which was amazing.
Be the first to ReplyWonder fish
A wonderfully understated restaurant in London. A solid collection of dodge dishes and sizeable wine list. Recommend the Cornish monkfish
Be the first to ReplyFantastic tasting menu
Our first time at this fish restaurant. We had the tasting menu and every course was outstanding and beautifully presented. Amazing flavours of apple and subtle hints of wasabi. Very good and personal service. Lovely dining room. The turbot was a standout as was the sea bass tartare. A cut above all the other tasting menus we have had over the last couple of years.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, Service Hit & Miss
Firstly we came here with a voucher from Virgin with a glass of champagne, which was served on the terrace, which felt nice. The table was a bit close to the fake tree which was low down so banged my head. When we went into the restaurant we were shown our table and shown what was the menu for that day. We looked through the wine list, and our waitress was great at explaining the few wines we had in mind, and helped us choose a Riesling which was great. The food throughout was great with the highlight for me being the Sea Bass Tartare. The only small bit which was good, but not great was the Pigs Head canapé. Service was hit and miss. Our main waitress was great, knowledgable and helped guide us through the meal. There are then runners who would bring out the food, sometimes explaining the food, sometimes not. We provided our voucher at the front desk, but there was an issue so it needed to be seen again. I felt like they could have asked between courses for me to resend the voucher, not to come over when I'm in the middle of eating the Sea Bass tartare. Also the meal felt very rushed, looking around some people got served different courses at different times (Such as the bread before the canapés, whereas we received it after the canapés). Overall, the food is very good though.
Be the first to ReplyMemorable in every way
The staff were lovely and thoughtful. It was my birthday and they made it fun and funny. There were even gifts. Food was outstanding and the view was magical. Come for a pre-dinner drink on the terrace to start your enchanting evening.
Be the first to ReplyHighly sophisticated in every way
The decor, ambience, service and food here are to standards that every restaurant should aspire to. Don’t be put off by the name if you’re not a big fish lover either. There are meat and vegetarian options too. The gastronomy is original, attractive and delicious - perfectly executed on all courses. All great things come in small packages, and the portion sizes reflect such. But there is a stream of very original and exquisite amuse bouches too. You will not leave feeling hungry. Service is charming and professional and a wonderful wine list. Would strongly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyReally very good
Fabulous staff, with a special mention to the super Pierre and Dimitri. Fabulous food, although as others have mentioned, portions are tiny, especially for the price. No one going to get fat here. The restaurant is immaculate - toilets too-. The only thing l letting the evening down is the lift which seemed to be constantly used by other people going to the wrong floors! If you like fish and you’re looking for a special occasion place you can’t go wrong here
Be the first to ReplyFantastic seafood testing menu
Fantastic seafood restaurant. The sea bass tartare was excellent. Oliver and the team looked after us really well. We went for Saturday lunch which was very relaxed time to be in the City
Be the first to ReplyIncredible experience
After spending 3 weeks in England/Ireland, can genuinely say that Angler has been one of the best dining experience's of my trip/life. Specifically Dimitri, Mia and Oliver had amazing knowledge of the food and wine, as well as providing great conversation. I had the crab starter and the spiny Lobster main (special) and they were perfect. The highlight was the apple jelly that laid so nicely on top of the crab, and the wasabi that was the perfect amount of heat. Finishing off with the cheese plate (the goats cheese was my favourite) with a tawny Port. All in all, it was the best way to finish our trip abroad.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Anniversary Lunch
My wife and I went to the Angler for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Opted for the a la carte so we could share and try out different dishes on the menu. Minor delay (had to ask twice) to obtain the drinks menu, but probably due to mis-understanding from us saying we wanted water for the table first (it was a hot day). Amuse bouche's were pleasant, although the gougeres and tartlet were similar in (predominantly Parmesan cheese) flavour. Stand out was the Squid Ink cracker. Onto starters, and we went for the Dorset crab and Lobster Ravioli. Both were excellent, the crab containing a lime sorbet that was both surprising and refreshing. For mains, we had the roast turbot and lamb. Again, both were superb - although the fish dish won the day as our favourite dish. Pre-desert was delicate and cleansed the palate, followed on by P.B.C and Apricot desert (presented the same as the Yorkshire Rhubarb, replacing the fruit). Here, I feel the kitchen really excels in creating great tasting and nicely presented dishes, as well as the fish dish of course (which I guess is to be expected at a restaurant specialising on seafood). Petit Fours were lovely, finishing off with a nice cup of coffee. Bill came to around £210 (inc. service charge) with only a little alcohol (we each had a glass of champagne), but for Michelin starred restaurant, I actually think represents quite good value. My wife and I both left satisfied and full (which cannot be said with some previous similar establishments!). I would gladly come back (although there are so many outstanding restaurants in London) and recommend to anyone who enjoys seafood and has a sweet tooth!
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal and lovely meal - thanks to Stefano
We have had the table for 3hrs, and Stefano has been amazing throughout. He has explained each part of the menu, and has been efficient in clearing and bringing food to the table!! He has made our experience incredible, and it would not have been the same without his charm! He is an asset to the team! We thank him ❤️
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Lunch
We sampled the delights of the lunch set menu as an anniversary treat. Each dish was beautifully presented with a lovely balance of flavours, it was all very delicious. The asparagus in the chicken pie was cooked to perfection. We couldn’t stop talking about it 😁. Thank you for a lovely experience.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect tasting menu and paired wines - a special experience
I booked the Chefs Table for a business celebratory meal and it was fantastic. A semi private area suitable for 6-12. We all choose the tasting menu (for one guest lamb was easily swapped for monkfish) with paired wines. The food was stunning and the wines matched well - I didn't know any of them so it was a nice experience. I Especially loved the langoustine.
The service was perfect and each course/wine carefully explained.
A very memorable place to have a memorable celebration. Thank you
Sublime! A superb evening
You can read as many of the small percentage of bad/poor reviews as you wish in regard to this restaurant (and consider the type of reviewer) however, as a relatively well informed and experienced gourmet, my experience was exceptional.
We were celebrating a very special and personal milestone for my wife and therefore, it was important that the evening was seamless, unobtrusive and truly memorable - it was.
We had the wine pairing menu for four people and together with Champagne, the final account was £1200. Could the size of the exquisitely crafted courses be a little more generous, could the amount of wine poured be slightly increased - yes, they could be but trying to find fault (because you can or think that you should ) was not the point of the evening. Applause to the staff and in particular our waiter Dima, Francesco, our sommelier and of course to the chef who made my wife cry with joy by creating an extra special course for her - thank you!
Excellent - well worth a visit!
Excellent! I had a terrific experience here. Food was appealing to the eye and very flavorful. Service was top-notch - in fact, the restaurant got slammed by a party of 20 mid-week (and w/o a tremendous number of staff on duty) and didn't miss a beat.
Dining room is modern and the tables are well spaced. A perfect place for a business or romantic dinner.
My only quibble is that it was unclear the restaurant is on the 7th floor. I was standing by the host stand downstairs for more than 5 minutes wondering when a host or hostess would come to the stand, and only after my wait did someone from staff inquire if they could help. When I told them I was looking for Angler, they pointed to the elevator bank and pointed 'upstairs.' Some sort of signage (or a better trained host(ess) downstairs) would be helpful, esp for a Michelin-starred establishment.
Amazing service and food
Took my Dad out for a birthday meal and had a wonderful time at Angler! Our waiter Stefano was brilliant - super attentive and thoughtful, and made it a really special night. The food was top quality, a must if you like seafood!
Be the first to ReplyGood to be back
Another visit to Angler in their pleasant light top floor space at The South Place hotel. Now with a paired back menu offering three choices at each course. The food (mainly fish - given the name) is as good as always. Good selection of wine - charming staff.
