I wanted to stay here forever.....
Where do I begin? This is the first restaurant I have been to that actually deserves their Michelin star. I have eaten at a ton of places and this goes down in my top 10 best experiences. Will without a doubt be a first stop for me every time I am in San Francisco. My boyfriend and I did the "Let Us Cook For You" which was super nice because it took the thinking out of it so we could just relax. In addition to the delicious food: - Vibe inside the restaurant is a sophisticated vibe but not overdone - Staff is incredible and not a single person misses a beat. The vibe was definitely a "team effort" as opposed to "let me get your waiter". - Music is incredible. So good, I requested their Spotify playlist (but they want it to remain private so it's not given out) Anyways hats off to the chef and staff here. See you soon!
Be the first to ReplyDo the tasting menu...exceeds expectations!
WOW! Had the tasting menu for dinner. Amazing!! The scallops and oysters were notable, as was the ribeye. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Absolutely exceeds expectations.
Be the first to ReplyInteresting flavors, spotty service at a luxe price point
When you first step into the angler, you may see a hubbub of servers in navy blue suits scooting back-and-forth. Trouble is they mostly spend time speaking with each other, and not much time at your table. Youโre handed a menu, which is very cryptic โsaying very little about the dishes, and since the gaggle of suited servers is only speaking to each other, you really donโt know what are the sauces accompanying each dish unless you ask. And you need to ask for nearly each and every one. The fillet of Seabass pictured here was absolutely delicious but at $56 its about the size of a deck of cards and includes nothing but the netted lemon on the plate. Care for some bread? Well thatโs $15 for a small tray of Parkerhouse rolls. A vegetable to go with that? Thatโll set you back another $17 for the grilled brassica which is on the tough side and liberally doused in harissa which covers up the more interesting Garum flavor beneath it. If youโre on an expense account I can see going to this place and weโre chalking it up on the bosses account. But if you are on your own dime, I think you can do far better elsewhere.

An amazing experience. Open wood burning kitchen and fabulous views of the Bay Bridge. We dropped in for lunch (oysters were sweet!). Alexandra looked after us so well we booked for dinner that night. And had more outstanding food: the raw tuna was beautiful and the whole radicchio was absolutely fabulous. Raphael looked after us very well with great humour and knowledge. Cocktails were delicious (Oaxacan ruby was superb) An amazing experience! Weโll definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, poor wait staff
The food and the ambiance were amazing!! It was the wait staff and the actual wait for our food that completely took away from the experience!
Be the first to Replyperfect place, perfect food
Hmmm - I don't quite understand why it has quite a few negative comments. I've spent 6 weeks in California recently, was in many places and definitely it is one of the best. Everything is top notch, from ambience, service and - the most important - food. My only regret was that there so popular I couldn't get the table the next day ...
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
We were looking forward to dining at the Angler after reading the largely positive reviews online. Unfortunately, a big disappointment. We arrived for dinner and sat inside. The restaurant was moderately busy at 20:45 but not by any means packed. We were given with the menu (small menu to start with), only to be told that they โsold-outโ on some of the starters and on 4-5 of their main fish dishes. Also, the black cod โwas on the small sizeโ (whatever that means - not enough for 1 person?) I had to take the scallops, as a starter, from the mains section at 25USD each!! 4 scallops = 100USD. My wife took a tuna tartare โmincedโ and mixed with a fruity jelly. Both were tasty. For mains, I ordered the only fish left on the mains menu - the sea bream, which I admit was cooked nicely and was very tasty. My wife had to resolve to the lobster and oh-boy they found a way to ruin the dish. The menu states โgrilled lobsterโ and no other information. The seemingly helpful staff, coming and going to the table numerous times had little knowledge of the dishes and did not volunteer the detail that the lobster was overwhelmingly covered in Harissa butter! I felt sorry for the animal that died only to be treated that way. A waste of a fresh lobster. There is a huge selection of wine, all overpriced, local or imported. The ambience and dining experience I left last, as what makes a restaurant good is the food and the Angler failed on that. But if you want to charge over 500USD for a couple to dine with you and pretend you offer a fine dining experience, you cannot have the cutlery in a can in the middle of the table for the customer to reach or play the loud cheesy 80โs music on the speakers. It felt like eating in a Burger place but paid more than I ever had for celebrity chef dishes. The manager tried to rectify the experience by offering a desert, which was a nice gesture. I really hope we caught them on a bad day but I fear we didnโt.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, underwhelming and got a splinter from a utensil
Ate this evening for dinner and left still hungry, underwhelmed and quite honestly disappointed with the whole experience as well as being $430 lighter. We visited as a couple and started off with the Caviar as well as couple of cocktails. Cocktails were very good indeed. Caviar itself wasnโt bad but the accompaniments were average. Next starter was a cold fish dish with fruit, taste was good but portion was small. Then came a cabbage salad, as part of the cabbage salad they provide an extra napkin with two clips and a string to place round your neck, the dish itself was tasty enough but ultimately just red cabbage with onion and garlic. Taking off my โbibโ i managed to get a metal splinter from one of the clips, immediately showed the staff who seemed a bit taken back and confused as to what to do, after directing them to find some tweezers they came back with a sewing kit and some disinfectants. Despite a few somewhat cursory โchecking on youโ there was very little in consideration, no one came over as a manager to ask if there was anything they could do. Whilst I realise it was just a small splinter to be honest im surprised even at the lack of care and consideration. I do wonder how they would deal with something more serious should that arise. I had 2 scollops at $25 each and a bit of fish for my wife. We left still really rather hungry and the portions were small, service charge too high and overall an underwhelming experience. The best bit really was the cocktails. Iโd suggest somewhere else for seafood unless the menu has something you are desperately after. I wonโt rate this as poor or worse as it doesnโt deserve that but it certainly wouldnโt get any visit recommending from myself.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service. Great seafood
Impeccable service and delicious seafood menu The ember roasting gives the food a different flavor than in other restaurants

The overall experience did not meet expectations of a Michelin star restaurant, or even a Bib Gourmand.
Started with a half-dozen of different varietal oysters, and they were presented with no identifiers or description (varietal type, level of brine, recommendation on which varietal to start with based on brine level, etc.). For the second course, had the wagyu and hen of the woods mushrooms which was mediocre at best. The wine pours were half the norm at full costs. Would advise against ordering by the glass.
From the food, wine or service, no part of the experience excelled.
Fantastic food, poor service not worthy of the star
Inspired and fantastic menu! Service started great but quickly turned into a complete train wreck. $200 bottle of white was warm during appetizers. Dinner came and was absolutely fantastic, but never saw the wine again. After dinner was 90% eaten got up to find the waiter and wine. So disappointing for a $600+ dinner. Epic fail for the service. Kitchen staff and cuisine was world class. Beautiful place but the service. Maybe if they didnโt give an automatic 20% service to the servers they would match the efforts of the kitchen and also surpass that 20%.
Be the first to ReplyBad Experience
After amdrinking a very good wine, we had to wait for at least 30 minutes before ordering. Then, most of the dishes were not available anymore. And then we were told that we had to wait 45 minutes to be served since there was an event... We decided to lโรฉpave.
So disapointing and far from the standard of a one michelin star.
Great food with a view
A fantastic meal, the best scallops and warm oysters I ever was served. The place is pricey, but if you can put yourself over it, I can only strongly recommend this restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyDon't waste your time and money!!!
This was probably the most disappointing and dissatisfying dining event we've had in a very long time and we travel and dine a lot all over the world. The service was mediocre and snotty but the insulting part was how they charge $50 for a 6oz piece of fish with no accompaniment. It was so salty that I had to scrape the seasoning off the little that was left. They didn't even have the decency to ask how we liked our meal, that's how much they care. We left the place with a $255 bill and were neither full nor satisfied. We will let the world know never to waste time nor money on the ANGLER.

Exceptional! From each greeting to each expertly purveyed and prepared cocktail straight through to dessert. Outstanding quality / preparation / presentation and taste! The Sommelier is knowledgeable and approachable - donโt miss the chance to enjoy Robertโs selections. Make a reservation for a table by the window and you wonโt be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyNot worthy a Michelin Star
The food here is really good but if it is worthy a Michelin Star - I am not too sure. It is also overpriced. The presentation of the food was not what is expected of a Michelin Star restaurant. No finesse or details to level up the plate. When this is said the food is very good and prepared as expected from a restaurant of this class.
The Staff was correct but too detached from their work and was handing out the food without warmth or interest on what they actually served. I really love good food and part of the joy is to feel the love from the makers of the food. This was a missing part.
Dessert - very good but no WOW factor.
We were dissapointed and would rather recommend Statebird Provisions in Fillmore.
An all time great meal in every way
I preface my review not to brag, but for perspective. My wife and I have eaten at 1, 2, and 3 star restaurants across Europe, the U.S. (mostly around Chicago), Australia and South America (though the ratings are different there) and The Angler was equal to any of them. As might be expected, the service was attentive, but not smothering. The waiter and sommelier were friendly, knowledgeable and without a hint of condescension. As this was our celebratory "Post-pandemic" reward for staying away from restaurants for the past 16 months, we went all out. We started with a platter of Long Island oysters that were absolutely to die for. Fresh, crispy, briny. Next was a small appetizer of raw tuna covered with diced clear tomato aspic. Small, but delightful flavors. For the main course, I had a grilled salt and pepper bream that was simply cooked to perfection. The flesh was creamy and tasty, the skin and even the bones were crunchy and yummy. My wife had a small filet of swordfish (you can order how many ounces you want) that was tender and fresh. The main dishes were accompanied by a plate of grilled baby artichokes in Swarnadwipa Butter. Now, I have no idea what Swarnadwipa Butter is, but it was so good I tried to put it on my wife's swordfish but she wouldn't let me. The final course was a peanut butter chocolate bar over which we had to fight over the last bite. The meal was accompanied by a sparkling vouvrey that paired well with the meal. For after dinner we had tea and a small glass of aged port. As I had made a small joke about the huge bottle of Chartreuse served at the table next to our, our waiter brought us sample tastes of a very different and dangerously good Chartreuse. Overall, the meal was outstanding. To be honest, I can't think of a single problem or glitch to mention.
Be the first to ReplyGreat attention to detail and great food.
Dinner at Angler was a real experience. A very well trained and competent staff, unusual, and delicious food. Sort of a family style serving so it is meant to be shared. The Sea Bass was great and the Swordfish was excellent. The highlight was the Slow Grilled Hen of the Woods. Such great flavor and just right! We will be back!!
Be the first to ReplyOn the hook for a delicious dinner
Angler will make a seafood lover out of you! The space is very welcoming and the kitchen is such a surreal sight! Most notable are the chefs with the little paper fans they keep tucked into the back of heir aprons! Itโs basically dinner and a show. Our dinner was fresh, delicious and it kept us craving for more. 9 courses of amazing family styled delights and the best soft serve in town!
