Arturo's Coal Oven Pizza New York Reviews from The Last Year

I've been a fan of Arturo's since living in the neighborhood 20 years ago. Recently, took my family of out of towners as a small group of 8. Menu was fixed, with exceptionally great food and wonderful service! So affordable too. No way we could've eaten anywhere else with that value!!

My friend and I like to drop in here whenever we're at Angelika down the street. We usually split a pie and a salad, but the last few times we've each ordered an entree. Everything we've tried on the menu has been excellent.

We were walking by Arturo's and it smelled so delicious we put our name on the list and there was a 40 minute wait. We walked around the neighborhood for a bit and when we came back our table was ready. The live music band was fantastic and added to the wonderful ambiance of the restaurant. When we ordered we were deciding between two pizzas and the waiter suggested we get half and half so we had half margarita and half mozzarella. We also ordered the arruga and Parmesan salad. Everything was delicious! A very fun, lively evening with delicious food.

Amazing food, service and music! The coal oven pizza is a must have! I have been going there for over 20 years! You will be amazed - I guarantee!
my favorite restaurant in the world .
I lived right around the corner and this place became my "cheers". I was there the night before my son was born and it was his first restaurant experience as a baby. You can't go wrong with any dish, everything is delicious!!! I only wish that is was less than 1600 miles away (for me now) or I would be there every night. The pizza is out of this world, arugula salad, chicken parm- you really need a solid month to taste the depth of their menu. Tell Tony we said hi!
This is one of our favorite date night places.
Food is amazing and the bartenders are great!
I had the green pepper and onion pizza for takeout.
I enjoyed the crispy crust, peppery flavor of the tomato sauce, and the hearty layer of cheese on top. The small pizza is enormous, which justifies the cost of $26. The pizza was prepared pretty quickly as well, maybe in about 20 minutes. This is a great choice, especially if you have a couple of people to split the pizza with.
What is better than a family-run business dating back to
What is better than a family-run business dating back to 1957 with the same great recipes and ambiance of the founders, the fabulous Arturo and Betty Giunta? I have been a loyal customer since September, 1969 when I was a college freshman. Discovering that a college buddy and still dear friend was a cousin made it like going to a family dinner every time we went. The piano bar has always made the atmosphere fun. Don't forget to sign the blackboard when you use the restroom, either. I highly recommend any pizza and salad. Portions are generous. Lisa and Scott, who manage the place now, continue to make everyone feel welcome.
Have been to Arturo's.
Many times thru the years from my late 20's now 65 . It is rare that a restaurant can survive and be better than you remember ! anchovy mushroom pizza divine with tasty arugula salad . And chicken Francese super tender and lemony . Great staff love the bathtub in the bath room And live jazz . This is what makes New York special Sarah from brookl

Been to Arturo’s a few times in the 1990s but it has been a long time since I’ve returned. Ordered a small Arturo’s fiesta pizza which included, sausage, mushrooms, peppers and onions. Also got the veal saltinbocca raimond. Love this old school place. First time sitting in the back room.

My favorite dinner spot in NYC! I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years and this is my go to Italian. The food is delicious and reasonably priced! This place does not take reservations but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes for a table for 4.
Make Arturo’s Great Again
They love Donald T in this place ! The bartender will make a point of telling how great the 45th dictator and chief is and the pizza’s not that great !
It was Eh
I went to school nearby so always pass by this place so thought I give it a try. They only open for dinner so I had to wait till 5 pm. Not the friendliest bunch of ppl greeting me but I think it’s typical of family owned places, they just done it for too long so not a huge biggie for me. It was somewhat comfy spot but I didn’t really like the vibe - feels like a cross btw local pizzeria and small local restaurant. It’s a very small place so I could see it packed during prime hours and weekends. Got a small pizza and it was huge, I think probably 14 in which is not too different from 16 in! I ate two slices and I felt full. The toppings seem ok, good quality cheese, tomato sauce, however, I feel the secret of good pizza is the dough. Here, the dough is not bad, kinda tasty but too much burnt taste from oven. The thing I don’t really like is the crust is too thick, similar to street pizza but possibly thicker and it’s really tough to chew throughout. I really enjoy the truly thin crust where it’s crispy outside and really soft inside and it’s very light, airy, and fluffy. It’s an art but unfortunately not too many places in NYC has it. This one is more like street style pizza with enough cheese and sauce. I was looking more for really thin crust and lots of dripping cheese.
Don’t go, extremely rude hostess and owner.
Don’t ever go here with strollers! Or in general ever if you want a pleasant interaction with hosts. When we arrived, the hostess was pretty rude and made a problem over the fact we had a stroller with us. We were told to hand the restaurant the stroller, which is fine and no problem. After dinner we get our stroller back, COMPLETELY DAMAGED. When we mentioned it to the guy who brought it out( apparently the manager himself) he went in full aggressive mode. Making us out to be liars, telling us we fabricated the situation, essentially calling us out to be *holes. This set my pregnant wife off and calling him out on his rudeness, he just walked away. 2 minutes later he comes back still abrasive and egregiously rude. We pointed out the extensive damage and instead of a calm and rational apology - he got even more angry and started yelling and calling us names again, even doing it in the face of a pregnant woman holding a 1 year old. This is out of control and insane. These people are totally unfit to run a busy restaurant. I have no idea how they still have a functioning business. NEVER GO
