Saturday dinner
Excellent food; roast squash starter with ricotta was amazing, gardiniera plentiful and tasty.Mains of lamb and bavette were beautifully cooked. Thoroughly recommend
Be the first to ReplyNot a great experience…
We just had a quite a bad experience at this place. We had lunch after arriving at 12.05pm and the service was quite slow, which wasn’t a problem in itself but while having pudding the waitress already arrived with the bill saying we would have to leave the table in 10 minutes since our 2 hrs time slot was nearly over. Waiting time between dishes about 35 minutes. Please note, when I called to make the booking and also when I tried to do a test booking there was no mention of the table just being booked for 2hrs. The website also states that the place is open between 12-2.30 on Saturdays which wouldn’t allow for a second booking at 2pm. So we ate our pudding quickly (not a good experience) and when asking to have a coffee 6 minutes into the 10 minutes we were told that wasn’t possible. The manager of the day also told me that they mention the 2 hrs booking time on their website (not true) and that it is also communicated during the booking procedure (also not true). In fact, I had called to make the booking and was emailed a link to add my credit card details and on the confirmation email there isn’t any reference to “finish your lunch within 2 hrs and then we’ll kick you out”. I called later that day to tell them and the manager said I couldn’t see it on the test booking because they had changed the booking system a few days earlier (hahahah). Just another attempt to gaslight a customer. Must be great to work in a team with such nice colleagues that tell lies instead of attempting to save a situation. I will definitely avoid this place in the future and quite a few friends who have been customers and live in the area will also avoid it from now on.
Be the first to ReplyNot the best
Very mediocre food. For such a small menu the dishes were all really average The restaurant wasn’t busy for a Thursday but staff were inattentive, avoided clearing tables, taking orders, etc. It felt like no one was that interested in being there - not the customers, staff or the kitchen
Be the first to ReplyGreat service but overpriced & mediocre food (and wine too expensive)
Shocked by the bill at this very average restaurant. The food was nothing special and very expensive for what it was. The menu was extremely limited and the wine highly overpriced. The one positive was the service: very personal, and the staff were caring and attentive. Will not be visiting here again though, what a complete rip-off for a local restaurant - for these prices better to go to central London and have more of an ambience. I try to support local wherever possible but establishments need to look after the locals in return. This felt like abuse.
Be the first to ReplyAverage food with great service
I was really excited to try Artusi but was a little disappointed - there wasn’t a huge selection for vegetarians and my main course didn’t look appealing and just wasn’t especially tasty. The wine was good, the service was friendly, there was a nice buzz about it. I think it’s well intentioned and if the food was a little less sloppy (with presentation and flavour) it would be a stand out success.
Be the first to ReplyAverage food and slow service
Very slow service, and then got asked to give up our table before dessert. Food was good but at this price point there are better places in London. Solid choice if you’re in the area but wouldn’t make a trek out here. Pastas and desserts were the highlight - we had a very fatty brisket appetizer we could have passed on and the meat main was also mediocre.
Be the first to ReplyGreat neighbourhood restaurant
Wonderful little neighbourhood Italian restaurant. Very friendly and knowledgeable team, nice ambiance, delicious food. We have one of every appetizer and both pastas, everything was cooked perfectly, very tasty and good portion size. A nice wine list with lots of interesting choices and great value for money. Worth a visit from anywhere in London, if we lived in Peckham we would be here every week!
Be the first to ReplySuper lunch
It's been awhile since we dined here as it has been harder to get a table for 2 during social distancing rules. So happy with our picks for lunch on saturday. The bavette and the meringue were my fave dishes and the date and vanilla ice cream was superb!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Fine Dining with reasonable price!
The best restaurant in London right now. From delicious experience to amazing staff and atmosphere. Fine dining with reasonable prices! Menu is different each time and absolutely the best food I had so far in the last two years. The only problem I have is that the food can be too salty at times, but everything else is 5 star.
Be the first to ReplyGluten free option served up badly
I don't doubt the quality of the food at all. Beautiful ingredients and the starter and dessert were superb (though the mini aubergines were undercooked slightly and there was no bread which for the hungry is always good). Mains were good but the gluten free pasta was hard and the sauce extremely salty and even our sauce was too salty as it left us parched for the rest of the day. I would say aim for neutral and have sea salt on the table as many are not adding salt to food at all. They knocked £4 off for the extremely salty gf meal and when I queried the idea that £21 was a lot to pay for starter and dessert they then took another £4.50 off. That still left £14.50 for a starter and a dessert when really that was closer to the amount which should have been taken off. It was a shame they got the cooking of gf pasta so badly wrong. Plus no internet, not even access to one's own data.
Be the first to ReplyFood average, atmosphere lacking, service abysmal - lost its touch?
I came in a few weeks ago to this restaurant on the back of some great reviews from a few friends from a few years back. I knew of the restaurant and remembered it had had some good reviews when it first opened in 2014/15.
I am a local and eat out a lot around Peckham. It was my friends 25th birthday and I wanted to treat him to something special.
Unfortunately I was highly disappointed by this experience. Hospitality has been through a hard time recently with many staff shortages and staff changes. I rarely complain because most restaurants at least have a foundational basic of standards but this seemed lacking of any. Here I can walk you through my experience.
Firstly for a Friday night you would have expected a bit more atmosphere - instead the decor made it look like an office space within a restaurant. The lights also quite bright for a Friday evening. For a restaurant for a high price point you would expect a real napkin as opposed to a paper napkin. These are small things but everything adds to the experience.
If you are going to justify this price point the food has to be great and the service great. If it falls short of this you'd like to expect they were at least trying to rectify this. This time the restaurant delivered neither great food or great service. I am an assistant manager in a casual fine dining restaurant just for context.
The sit down experience started off well - we had two glasses of red wine. The house and another, although the house was subpar we decided to order a bottle of the other as it was delicious. Possibly third down the list around £35 - £40 (acceptable price point for what it was and delicious).
The issues started once we started to order. I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he pointed at menu but couldn't justify his selection as didn't know the dish. This didn't fill me with confidence. He didn't know much of the menu at all so couldn't justify anything. The manager seemed to be missing in action so I'm not sure he could rely on someone else to explain everything.
Once we had ordered our hot starter (some sort of cheese in a coned lightbulb shape with flakes around) arrived after just 2 minutes. Had they microwaved it? I'm not sure but that was very suspect and felt rushed. Here I must say it was nice - probably the best of the night - but still suspect.
Then the anti-pasta dishes arrived very shortly after - these were nice but didn't justify the price point. I've had cheaper and much better dishes in Bancone, Emilia's and Padella.
We were halfway through our antipasta before the mains arrived - this is a huge no. Instead of taking the plates back to the pass to keep them hot they pulled up another two person table and left them there. This meant I had to rush through my antipasta before moving onto my mains. I get it was 9:30 at night and the staff probably want to go home - but you can't treat guests like this.
The mains was Steak and Girolle Mushrooms. Which can usually be a great combo if it's jazzed up. Here it turned into an uninspiring combo, that was cold by the time I reached it and quite frankly bland. The meat had been cooked well but the rest of the dish was uninspiring.
I voiced my concerns to the manager - who seemed like a waitress - and she played my concerns down and just offered us a free limoncello each.
The last disappointing moment was I had called up in advance to arrange a candle in the dessert for my friend when I made the booking. A few days before going to the restaurant I then called again to remind them of this and they said there was already a note of this.
We ordered desserts and sadly there was no candle. The desserts were okay but at this point the damage had been done.
On the whole the experience felt rushed and not at all special. To get so many things wrong it could nowhere near justify the price point - let alone half of the bill. Maybe it has lost its shine from the good reviews it had all those years ago. I hope maybe this was a blip but there seemed to be bigger issues at play here. What was meant to be a special night was quite the opposite.
I am assistant manager in a casual fine dining restaurant and this whole experience for any of my guests would be unacceptable. I would be open to trying this restaurant again to see if it was the same experience - but I quite frankly will not be rushing back anytime soon.
Visited here taking a friend for bday lunch x
Visited here taking a friend to lunch for her birthday and it didn't disappoint the menu is small but this just adds to the freshness and new menus produced. I loved it everything was absolutely delicious food wise. Would deffo return a gem of a place :) x
Be the first to ReplyMissing in Action (and Conscience)
I have eaten here before lockdown 1 and ordered their home delivery twice during it. Great food there and delivery 1 was one of the very best home delivery my family enjoyed over the last year. Delivery 2 was a disaster. The food arrived in smashed containers (DPD probably more than Artusi fault). Very prompt response to my photos and observations - for which thanks. Sadly, we all suffered from food poisoning eating it that evening. I emailed about this twice (not looking for refunds, just some sort of comment from them). The response was a resounding silence. Shame on you at Artusi. Missing in conscience and action..
Be the first to ReplyHome Delivery didn’t arrive!
I would not recommend the Artusi and Marcello home delivery service.
I ordered over £100 worth of food for a dinner party for my birthday at the weekend and it didn’t arrive.
When I phoned Artsui they had no idea what was going on and no access to the home delivery order system.
I was told to phone Marcello (the sister restaurant) and speak to the chef who deals with home deliveries. He confirmed that my order wasn’t coming and said that it had been incorrectly been accepted by the website. He said I would be refunded, but showed very little sympathy for the fact that my birthday dinner party had been ruined. I was offered no voucher, complimentary booking at either restaurant or even a conversation with the manager. When I said that the situation was unacceptable, I was told to get a takeaway and that they weren’t web developers (in respect of the website fault). The chef then said he had to go and cook for people in the restaurant. I hope those customers were treated better than me.
Great local restaurant despite Covid restrictions
I have always enjoyed Artusi and despite the adjustments they have had to make as a result of Covid restrictions, it still provides apparently simple yet flavoursome food. Pasta and fish are always strengths. . The menu is pared down from what it used to be but this is understandable given the financial problems caused by reduced capacity. Unlike reviewers below, I was reassured by Artusi's Covid protocol rather that it being off-putting. I found staff charming and helpful
Be the first to Replysunday lunch to celebrate a birthday
having heard of the owner of this restaurant I was looking forward to a good dining experience. Sadly that was far from what we received.
The waiting staff were on edge from the start aggressively promoting the covid 19 rules and regs. instead of being welcoming.
when food was served it was brought on a tray which we had to self serve from making us feel contaminated. between courses we were told to keep our dirty cutlery for the next course.(how reusing cutlery between courses helps prevent covid transmission is beyond me ).
Apart from the awkward service the standard of the food was in my opinion poor.
The crispy Jowl was nice but came with a non descript sauce.
the pasta with nduja was at best bland and lacklustre leaving me disappointed.
The wine selection was not great either.
All in all I would not recommend Artusi to friends or family.
