The restaurant was busy Saturday night! Service was very slow! Food was okay! The lower eating area was vey dark,so you had to take out your phone to read menu!
The burger was really good.
I am rating all of the Hogsalt restaurants so can't give it 5 stars since I have 4 Charles Prime w/ #1 burger! Also, I have heard Au Cheval Chicago location is far superior! The location is a bit sketchy looking. The entrance is on a side street that's like an alley way. I would definitely be scared to walk through there alone in the evening .
The burger is good but I'm all about this prime rib
The burger is good but I'm all about this prime rib sandwich with auhljus and their horseradish sauce . Wow best beef sandwich ever! Garlic toasted bun. The burger is def good but just not a stand out for me but the beef sandwich ouuulala what dreams are made of. Mac an s cheese not a fan of the fatty bacon but the whipped potatoes are heavenly

Great, unassuming ambiance and delicious menu (food and drinks all great). The service was on point and I will definitely return. It's a bit pricey for cheeseburgers but honestly totally worth it. Don't sleep on the dessert- they have some great options and you're not going to regret it no matter what you order. For my tequila drinkers- the espresso martini with tequila is a must!
Been to the Chicago location! Came to compare.
The food is what we came fore - the kale Cesar, general Jane's chicken wings are *chefs kiss* as well as the burger and bologna sandwich (not picture since we scarfed them them). Service and servers were great attended to our needs in a timely fashion. The ambience is great in terms of the decor and the size of the space compared to the Chicago location however, the lack of air-conditioning was a major drawback.

Having gone to Au Cheval in Chicago and loved it, I was pretty disappointed by my experience with the NYC location. Food was way way too salty. We ordered the burger, steak tartare, and bone marrow and found everything over salted. Service was good and ambiance is very nice in the restaurant. However, was overall disappointed by food quality especially given how difficult it is to get a reservation here.
Excellent
The food and the service was excellent We ordered burgers and they were amazing maybe the best burger we ate!!! I definitely recommend itππ»
I have always claimed that Au Cheval's double cheeseburger
I have always claimed that Au Cheval's double cheeseburger is the best burger I have ever had when I visited in Chicago, so I had to come to the New York one now that I live in the same city. They have a reservation system here, which makes it much easier than the Chicago location already without waiting for hours in line. The con is that they do charge you $2.50 for making a reservation that does not go to your bill or anything. Needless, I made a walk-in on a Sunday around 4pm and was seated right away, so just come at a less busy hour. When you arrive, you will walk down an alleyway to enter the restaurant, which seems a bit sketch. Once inside, the space is old school and classy. There's also a Sawada Coffee inside and a cozy lounge downstairs. To start off, I had the Mezcal Penicillin ($19.50), which was refreshing especially on a hot day. As for food, I know everyone comes here for the burger, but don't sleep on General Jane's Fried Chicken ($14.99 for half order). First of all, you can order a half order, which is perfect to share with two people. This comes with 3 pieces of fried chicken that is smothered in a sweet and spicy Korean sauce. The chicken is so crispy, so juicy, and so tasty being drenched in the sauce. It's reminiscent of Korean fried chicken, which I loved. It's a must-get appetizer before you get the famous Double Cheeseburger. Between the two of us, we shared the Double Cheeseburger ($22.99) with Bacon ($6.99) and Farm Egg ($2.99) and the Shaved Prime Rib Sandwich ($36.99). The burger was just as beautiful as I remembered --perfect from the juicy Wagyu Patty, melty cheese, thick bacon, and creamy egg. The egg makes it a bit messy, but it makes for the perfect picture. While the prime rib sandwich was great too, the burger is the must. The sandwich was good with the gravy, but this was a bit one noted and got boring after a few bites. Overall, still one of the best burgers ever. It's pricey, but worth trying at least once in your life. But also in love with General Jane's fried chicken here, so makes it worth coming for both of these dishes.
Service was amazing, the training was impeccable but they
Service was amazing, the training was impeccable but they need more waiters to help check in. Cooking oil was beef tallow! Fried chicken was crispy, airy and light. Dijanase was delicious, better than the garlic aioli. Ask for a side of ketchup bc it gets strong and filling fast. Farm egg, burger and bacon were cooked perfectly. Burger patties were thin so definitely get bacon to help with the meat to bun ratio. Cheese was melted perfectly. Fries were hot but needed some salt and pepper. You are unable to get a single burger for a reduced price. Definitely get there before 5 pm if you don't have a reservation.

I'll tell you a little secret This place isn't hard to find. What's cool is the location and the transformation you experience when you walk in. There is a bar on the lower level, a swanky coffee shop right in the lobby and a beautiful dining area. We got seated right away w/o having reservations. Service was quick and prompt and the wait staff was very friendly. We ordered their famous burger, how can you not? I had the sliders and we shared fries. I didn't think there would be enough food for us both but we walked away w leftovers. Don't let the menu prices deter you. The food is really good! And why not spoil yourself the next time you are in Chinatown?
Best Hamburger in NY
Best Hamburger we have ever eaten. By far, was the best experience we had in New York. Excellents beers, tasty food (we had two doubles hamburgers and fried chicken slices) and excellent service. 100% recomendable
Fun burger and drinks place
The four of us had a fun evening. The place is great and the egg burger is yummy. Shame about the cocktails. My mezcal penicillin was weak. I could only taste the lime, no smokey, no spicy, no mezcal, no ginger. Prices are reasonable.
Perfection
Wonderful good quality good food served in a great chic surrounding. Service is excellent and the servers know their product. Highly recommend the burger
Surprisingly cool place inside and out
When you drive up you canβt believe what is inside. This is a really cool building and when you open the door you are hit with delicious scents of all the meals coming out of the kitchen but also the packed restaurant and the ambiance as you see people enjoying their incredible menu. We were there on a Sunday and ordered the famous cheeseburgers with this bacon like youβve never tasted before. Just thinking about it makes me drool and remember. The manager Hasan came over and he said Thankyou for your service for my husband and son and shared his family members that have been in the military including his brother. We were well fed and thought it was such a cool space with great staff. We will never forget that burger. Thankyou!
Great place to have lunch! Location is a bit strange for such a great place, but after you step in jt js all good!!
By chance we found this restaurant while around Chinatown. We have heard about au Cheval, and their amazing burgers before, but it never came in to our mind to walk in. Officially we didnβt make any reservations, so we had to wait before our table. We were seated just at the entrance. It wasnβt the best table and we had the feeling we were seen as an extra/fast table to service quickly, then rather be seen as guests to pay attention too. In addition, food is great. We had a caesar salad with chicken and the burger with some fries. Burger was delicious, so was the salad. The amount chicken was very little. Also, an extra bite, for instance some croutons would have made the salad perfect. The amount of dressing was quit a lot as well. Would advise to put the dressing at the side. Staff is very attentive, but there is a lack of interest in their guests. The restaurant is very well-attended, so we can imagine that they are busy. Location is great, so is the interior and the whole ambiance. Would definitely recommend to have lunch here.

Enjoyed a very memorable experience at the Chicago "Au Cheval" 3 years ago. Was pleasantly surprised there was a NY location next to hotel here. Was by myself, so just sat at bar and enjoyed a glass of wine and their amazing burger! Highly recommend!
Truly exceptional brunch experience.
Great food, amazing drinks and bloody Mary's that look beautiful and are delicious to drink and eat.
We had an early reservation on a Saturday night.
We were very nicely greeted by the host, which then sat us. They were already busy (of course) but not overly full. We didn't have someone seated next to us until we were done, which was nice! I had the root beer to drink but I didn't love it. It kind of tasted like there was an artificial sweetener in it. We didn't bother trying their spirit free drinks because they were $19; the same price as a "real" spirit. We ordered the prime rib sandwich, the double cheeseburger (how could you not?!), and the bacon & black pepper Mac n' cheese. The prime rib sandwich was amazing!!!! So juicy! It came au jus and creamy horseradish but you didn't even need them. The au jus did have a little kick to it so that was a nice touch with the sandwich. We added the bacon and egg to the burger. The bacon was way too fatty for my liking. The burgers are cooked medium unless otherwise requested. It tasted rare to me. My friend said it's one of the best he has. I thought there was too much going on to really enjoy the burger. The Mac n' cheese was our side and it was very good!!! Super cheesy! There were chunks of bacon, none of which I found as fatty as what was on the burger. Total bill about $100.
Best Hamburger ever!
Great Hamburger, peppered bacon is super tasty! Great music selection! Nice atmosphere and great service. Location is cool, but could be in a better neighborhood - only minus I found.

The ambiance in here was so nice! We got a same day res and the service was quick! The burger was amazing (worth the hype) and the mac and cheese was to die for :) 10/10
Excellent food, service.
Atmosphere was well suited to our needs. Friends and I enjoyed coming here. Will be going back.

By FAR one of the BEST burgers I've ever had!!!! You need to try this place asap! We made reservations a couple weeks in advance and I highly recommend considering you probably won't get in if you don't. The place was adorable and it was the perfect date night/girls night out place! A little pricy but it was to be expected.

Overall pretty decent! Service was phenomenal, but I found their famous cheeseburger with egg, bacon to be underwhelming. Fried chic was delicious, however!

Server was wackadoodle! Took forever to get drinks and kept forgetting everything. But this review is mainly about the food! Top 5 burger of all time handsdown. I haven't been able to get the og 4Charles burger yet but maybe one day soon! ( I hear RH now has the same burger as well..?) It's big in here, lots of tables and loud, busy & fun. It's a vibe. The downstairs has a cool speakeasy that was closed unfortunately. Walking up I didn't even realize I was here, it's not well marked or maybe the pre-game drinks were hittin. Definitely worth it you haven't been. And I will return 100%. If you get the Mac n cheese you may want to ask for light bacon ( I love bacon but this amount was just overkill).
Still a really good burger.
No longer my #1, but definitely still top 10. Came For lunch today and still have a great atmosphere. Service was awesome. I was debating getting something new and the server was kind enough to bring out a serving of the fried bologna for me to try. Got to be honest, not my favorite and I'm really glad I stuck with the burger. It had a very herbaceous flavor but paired with the meat and cheese, it was overwhelming and not my favorite. The burger was still yummy like I remembered and my guests I brought here really enjoyed their sandwiches. Fries and garlic aioli were good and the perfect amount of salt.

My boyfriend and I dined here for his bday! We started with a highland sour and bourbon old fashioned. The highland sour was good but nothing special. The old fashioned was standard. Pricey drinks but expected. We started with the bone marrow and steak tartare. I've never had either dish so I was super excited. Both were very delicious. The white toast that came with apps was amazing. I know it's just toast, but so yummy. I had the shaved prime ribs sandwich; my boyfriend had the double cheeseburger with a fried egg and bacon and we shared the bacon mac and cheese. The sandwich and mac and cheese were so good! The burger was good but $33 is a little steep, especially since it doesn't come with fries. The prime rib sandwich is also steep @ $36.99 with no side. We received a complimentary hot fudge sundae that came out with a candle which was nice. I was expecting to have to buy a dessert to get the candle. We also ended the night with pickle back shots. Service was good, not amazing. All in all a good but pricey dinner. Would I come here for a non-celebratory meal? Probably not; but a great spot for a splurge meal.
Very cool place
Great place. Did some research on this place before our visit and it did not disappoint. Fantastic atmosphere and decor perfect for NYC. Music lighting ect was just right with attentive service. One of the best burgers I have ever had. Would recommend for a really cool venue without being pretentious, a must visit in NYC for any group.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
