Saw the reviews for this place and have been meaning to give it a try. My girlfriend and I stopped by during the feast of San Gennaro and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant provided a welcome break from chaos of Mulberry during the feast. AJ's had a special menu for the festival which showcased some of its stronger offerings. I had the chicken parm while my GF had the rigatoni with arrabbiata. Both were fantastic. The chicken parm was huge and I ended up taking half of it home for lunch the next day. House (Hall) cab paired well with it. The bill came out to less than $100 after tax for two glasses of wine and the aforementioned meals as well as a kale caesar salad appetizer that was excellent. The service was top notch, even when the place was packed due to the festival. Anthony is a great GM. We will be going back.

Came here while I was visiting the city over the past weekend since it had good reviews on Yelp. Sorry to say that everything my group ordered was absolutely abysmal. My group ordered calamari and the rice balls as appetizers. The calamari had so much breading compared to squid and tasted like fried chicken basically. The rice balls seemed mostly like mashed potatoes - not really what you'd expect. It was cool that you're able to build you own pasta. We got tagliatelle w/ sunday sauce, chicken bolognese, marinara, and then the pre-set squid ink pasta with clams. Everything was bland. The entrees also took a very long time.

I've wanted to come here for many moons bc I love that you can "create your own" here and I wanted to give it a go! They used to have three locations but now only two with one on the UES and one in Little Italy.Loves:+ Good pasta and good sauces. Sometimes they do run out of their top sellers for the day but thankfully there's many good choices+ Fun drink idea where they give you this card to pick liquor and flavor profile for your drink. I know most bars just ask you these Qs but it was nice to have a little visual+ Friendly staff+ Lovely ambiance+ Spacious inside with outdoor dining tooThanks for the good time, Aunt Jake's! One more thing to note: did you ever wonder why it's named Aunt Jake's? It's bc the founders wanted the name to be around a made-up character, Aunt Jake, who does not imply or suggest a gender. Pretty cool.
Be the first to ReplyI loved this restaurant.
.on UES but Sunday went there for a salad and got the worst food poisoning ever...severe cramps and throwing up for day and half..sorry I can't eat there anymore..that was all I had all day so I know it was the salad. very disappointing

Very solid dining choice despite being in a touristy location. The pastas and service were delightful. Prices reasonable. Definitely recommended.

Summary: A solid Italian spot in little Italy. Cute place to eat outside when the weather is nice. Solid family style food and friendly owner. Calamari was solid and the spicy marinara had the equivalent of someone nudging in the side rather than a full on kick (I thought it was nice)Lasagna was tasty and came in a Martha Stuart style baked dish which we all loved. Shrimp scampi was solid but the lasagna warmed me over more. Tequila old fashioned was nailed. Apparently the dirty martini was sliding into home level dirty.

I've been taking out of town friends here for years to try the homemade pasta. I liked the old location with the back patio more than the new location, but do appreciate that they now have more seating available! Portions are very generous (usually I have enough leftovers for dinner the next day). My personal favorite sauce is their carbonara. I like their "bespoke" cocktail option where you can tell them a spirit and flavor profile and they'll create a custom drink for you! Service is also attentive and friendly. While I have other pasta spots in the city I prefer at this point, I would still consider this a good option.

This one was on the list for a while! Was finally able to try a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. We ordered:-rigatoni with meatball sauce-tagliatelle with Sunday sauceBoth were very good! Pasta had nice bite, both meaty sauces were nicely flavored and not overwhelming. Maybe would've liked a little more sauce with a bit more protein (I love meat). The portion sizes were perfect for someone dining with a big appetite. It was surprisingly kinda empty that night although id recommend making resys if you're planning to go at peak time or with large group. We sat at the back on bench seats, romantic. Suggestion I'd make- avoid playing a full Taylor Swift album as the music choice..Throws off the the good vibes you guys have going.

Amazing homemade pasta! Lots of great combinations and high quality, flavorful sauce. Definitely try the wine menu too...overall excellent .
Be the first to ReplyIt's average Italian food.
You won't be disappointed, but you're not going to write home about it. Little Italy is pretty touristy, so finding an open table somewhere on a Saturday isn't always easy. This place was basically empty so we got right in. The service was good and the serving size was on the larger side so those are some redeeming qualities. The tagliatelle was linguine.

Haven't been here in 3 years and to my surprise they had a whole new location that looked absolutely stunning upon entering. The location is bright and all the greenery is just a vibe! The aesthetics were soo pleasing to look in, but let's get into the food and drinks (that's why were here). While I waited for my friend, I enjoyed some cocktails at the bar and decided to go for the Beespoke cocktail experience and happy I did. I told the bartender what type of liquor I wanted and boom! magic was created. I def recommend doing that if you mind a little surprise. For our meals we had calamari as our appetizers and endless bread Give me all the carbs! After many years of wanting to try, I decided on my entrรฉe to be the Squid ink pasta and wow I been missing out. My friend had a rigatoni I believe and enjoyed it. It was her first time and happy she left pleased. All in all, I'm now craving Aunt Jakes again as I write this review and can't wait to go back. Def wanna try their brunch at the other location. Expect to spend around $75 and up for 2 with drinks and no dessert.
