Gee, I can't believe this spot was featured on "Shark Tank" and landed a $400K joint investment from Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran. I mean, it's a nice concept but hardly novel to Californians like me used to places selling avocado toast and avocado bowls. Jamie W. and I had never been to Industry City before, so we were browsing the the variety of eateries in the food hall. This one caught our attention because the skinnier Brooklynites appeared to be gravitating in their direction. As I suspected, the menu consisted mostly of salads and bowls with sliced avocado in the spotlight position. There were also some bun sandwiches where avocados were mashed as a mayo substitute. Jamie decided to go for the $14.45 Spicy Chicken Bowl (photo: bit.ly/3U1Tg4m).It featured spinach and brown rice mixed with chicken, avocado (of course), purple cabbage, carrots, pico de gallo, and crushed tortilla chips. The spice came from habanero hot sauce and jalapeño citronette. He thought it filling but rather perfunctory in flavor despite the spicy description. I ordered their seasonal flagship, the $14.45 Harvest Bowl (photo: bit.ly/3NrWPP3).It was a rather bland concoction with quinoa, kale, roasted sweet potatoes, goat cheese, chicken, avocado (of course), roasted almonds, and a balsamic vinaigrette they described as 'smoky'. It was all decent enough, and they appear to be successful enough to be building a chain of avocado eateries. I certainly don't question Cuban's business acumen though I know his favorite place to eat is IHOP. I'm just sayin'.FOOD - 3 stars...avocado bowls that just passed the gradeAMBIANCE - 3 stars...a 500 square-foot space with no room to wait for the orderSERVICE - 3 stars...rather roboticTOTAL - 3 stars...you can do a lot with an avocado RELATED - Hungry in NYC?
