An unforgettable gastronomic experience
We were eating taking advantage of a gift voucher from the Eneko Menu. This is a different restaurant. Very friendly and extremely correct staff, who give the client personalized treatment. Explaining the different dishes would be an unaffordable task for a non-professional cook, but what is appreciated in each of them is a laborious, magnificent preparation, and the excellent result. I don't know if it deserves the three stars because for me it has five. You won't leave hungry, that's for sure. It has a large parking lot. In short: an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

Unique experience: a true tasting journey and discovery of the area. It's a shame the chef wasn't there, but his team was prepared and welcoming.
Be the first to ReplyCraftsmanship, not art, of excellence
It is the second time we visited the restaurant and it must be said, it seemed to us that everything was basically the same, except the price. In other words, the menu is very good but not too surprising. A prodigy of execution, of goldsmithing or culinary craftsmanship we could say, but far from the genius or surprises of gastronomic art of before. Everything went like clockwork, as expected in a three-star establishment, the service was impeccable and very pleasant and in the end, it seems that Azurmendi has been infected by the inflated prices that Diverxo and other chefs of the same level began to practice (not all of them). They have started to follow. Two tasting menus with a bottle of champagne (triple the market price) for 860 euros

The place is simply extraordinary. All details have been considered to create a unique and unforgettable experience for diners. Furthermore, Aitor is excellent in his explanations for Pairing. Zorionak, Eneko Atxa and the entire team!

Unique experience. The food is incredible, both quality and flavor. But the service is unsurpassed, all the hardworking people are very professional, approachable and with a sense of humor. They make the experience unforgettable.

Can you say something new and original about a world-renowned and triple-Michelin-starred place? I don't think so. It is an unbeatable experience, at another gastronomic level, with a professional team that makes the visit exceed any expectations one may have. In this privileged enclave you will enjoy a journey through several rooms until you reach the main dining room, spacious and with perfect distances. Your table space is far enough away from the rest of the tables to have the necessary privacy so you can enjoy the magic that is about to begin. Everything is designed to the millimeter: both in the presentations and in the sequence of the dishes. A culinary play in which you are going to be the protagonist.

Last gastronomic point of our vacation, we had to repeat, years later, the visit to Azurmendi. This is a restaurant where you come to enjoy a gastronomic experience, from the reception in that greenhouse hall where you start with the aperitif picnic, then we move on to the garden, where we taste flowers and leaves (delicious) and in the kitchen, where we witness the coordination and tight and rehearsed movements of the kitchen staff; to finish at our table where the main part of the menu is displayed, a technically impeccable, perfect menu, with absolutely defined flavors and exact cooking. It is a true luxury and, definitely, the best lobster I have tasted to date. Azurmendi is an essential restaurant. Its international pairing is at a high level and its staff is attentive and professional. Congratulations. Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in the country.
Be the first to ReplyVery good but not great
The picnic and garden of flowers were the highlight. All the first part was very nice. The second part was more inconsistent with one dish just terrible and the desert being one the the most incredible we ever ate. The wine pairing was regular, nothing special. The restaurant is more prone to the performance (although we found lipstick mark in one of our glasses, unacceptable for a 3* service) than for the food. I only had the “Hummmmm” effect in 2 dishes. It was nice to have the experience but considering the price, I think they need to improve the menu. I am not being picky, just honest about how we felt.

What a fantastic dining experience. Our lunch started with a 'picnic basket' in the lobby that had four delicious small bites (a pork merengue, a tiny brioche, a 'Lemongrass' foix gras and one other that I'm forgetting) and a glass of Txakoli wine. Then, we moved into the kitchen where they served us three truffle bites each of which were STUNNING before taking us to their 'conservation' room where we had some amazing experimental dishes. All that was before we sat down for our prefix menu! Their use of vegetables and mushrooms throughout the prefix menu was stunning and imaginative. Additionally, the Sommelier was helpful and knowledgeable about pairing beverages with the food. It was a lovely experience where I got to sit and appreciate every bite.

When we were planning the Basque portion of our trip, good friends highly recommended Azumendi, and we were delighted to score evening reservations. A short ride out of Bilbao, Azurmendi location in the Basque countryside adds to its charm. On arrival, we were severed a glass of wine and a picnic basket of treats in a welcoming area. Next we were escorted into the kitchen, where a chef prepared us a tasty infusion of hot black truffle oil into an egg yolk cooking it on the spot for an amazing bite. Next to a garden room for some earthy treats before you are seated at your table for an array of colorful dishes including shrimp, foamed sea urchin, lobster, tuna capriccio with caviar, and muchrooms. Throughout the service is fast, friendly, and charismatic, a special treat.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service but great food
We had very high expectations for Azurmendi at the 15th of July 2022 and had been loooking forward going there for many years. Unfortunately it wasn't as good experince as it could or should have been in the haut cuisine genre. We have been to many restaurants with michelin stars and you do expect a high level from the kitchen and the service. The food was excellent with every dish great on itself. The wine pairing should have been better but the disapointment was the service and waitors. Everybody was very stressed and the level of English was low in general. Also to many missed things during the evening like forgetting serving wine before next dish and put cutlery on the table. In this kind of restaurant that shouldn't happen. There were to many tables for each waitor. I hope they can change because we would like to come back for the food.

What a great experience! We were able to secure a last minute reservation and it was one of the highlights of our vacation. I enjoyed how our meal flowed through different parts of the restaurant , and the ability to tour the greenhouse afterwards. We also received a custom cocktail pairing with our tasting menu (as we are not wine drinkers). Service was impeccable.
Be the first to ReplyA true three star restaurant
A relative newcomer among all the three stars in the Basque region. The best of them all, or very nearly so. Some very imaginative and impressive dishes. Next time I would chose my own wine, the wine pairing was not convincing, especially cider and mead did not add much to the food. The mead was better and less sweet than the one at Venta Moncavillo in Rioja. The presentation of the dishes was rushed.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Dining Experience
Truly incredible dining experience. Genuinely felt like an amusement park with how interactive it was. We were walked through 5 different rooms total! As for the food, everything was so gorgeous and fun, but there were a few components that fell flat. With the exception of the sourdough, their homemade breads were way too gummy, and this pork course had loads of truffle shavings but might as well have had none, since it lacked any and all fragrance.
Everything else was so incredible and beautiful. And of course, it had everything you expect of a restaurant of such caliber (49th in the world, 3 stars, etc). Eneko also came out and took a picture with us!
Highly recommend visitors on a budget to arrange their own return transportation, or call an uber far in advance. We had asked the restaurant to call us a car, and they called us a luxury car, which was fine for us, but also triple the rate of the average taxi service. I could see how that might not work for some diners, so just a tip!
Fantastic Kitchen - Poor Wine Service
The food was outstanding, we have visited many of the top restaurants on the Top 50 list and Azurmendi is near the top. Service except for one person was also outstanding
But I did want to mention that I felt the wine pairing and wine service was in my opinion poor. I wish I had said something while at the restaurant and even early in the meal. None of wines really enhanced the dishes or vice versa. There was an over abundance of sherries which for my taste are not food wines. He also was slow on occasion, pouring after the dish came out from the kitchen. What little I heard of his presentaion he talked about the producer and not about why the wine’s characteristics were chosen for the dish. (FYI, they have two wine pairing options, one for 180 Euros (the one we selected) and one for 300 Euros.
I hate to be critical but the food was so good I hope they make improvements in this area.
One more thought, they push champagne early in the meal, but didn't allow us time to enjoy it, just a few sips before starting the sake and food. Luckily my spouse only wanted champagne and finished mine, otherwise 3/4 of the glass would have been wasted.
