This place is over-rated. The food is just okay, the meals are overpriced and the server gave us wrong information many times. The server was a nice guy but clearly was in training or new and we spent way too much to be misled half the time. You can get tastier and more reasonable priced Indian food elsewhere. Would not recommend going.
🙂
Loveee the ambience and the vibe.
Food is good as well and a big fan of their cocktails.

Definitely come here with a group of your favorite people,
Definitely come here with a group of your favorite people, because if you like Bollywood and Indian food you have to try out Baar Baar! Alas I do have to give it 3 stars since my experience wasn't the best. The live singer was a tad too loud for me to even talk to the people at my table and service was not the best. Our waiter was kind enough to explain his favorites and give us recommendations off the brunch menu, but our masala fries came after our meal ended. What I highly suggest: spicy guava mimosa (the kala khatta doesn't taste like much), the paneer pinwheels, and the chili cheese naan. The lamb keema was a little too spicy and tasted like a bowl of ground lamb with peas, and the pani puri was pretty good, I just personally wasn't a fan of the sweet passion fruit juice since I prefer spicy pani. But overall, come to Baar Baar at least once while you're in NYC, definitely an experience!

Came here with a party of 11 and we made a reservation so we were seated promptly. The vibe is so nice in this restaurant, great for any occasion whether it be a casual catch-up, team dinner, or birthday. We ordered a lot of appetizers and all of them tasted amazing. I also ordered the Paloma and it was pretty good! For main courses, I got the butter chicken and it was so yummy. I loved the garlic naan, great to dip in the curry. The dessert was interesting, we ordered two things and I personally didn't like the flan. Great experience though, we were celebrating two birthdays so they brought over two of those huge sparkler candles. The music isn't too loud so it was great to talk to people.Little pricey but nothing crazy for New York City. Would recommend!
🙂
Came here on a Saturday with a party of 6 for brunch.
We had to push our reservation as half of our party was running late and they were very accommodating with that. The food was really delicious but a bit on the pricey side. Considering the price point I expected the service to be on the same level but we were seated at a very small table meant for 4 while smaller parties were allocated larger tables. The line for the restrooms was ridiculously long, and the waiter was upset with customers crowding up the hallway, which is an issue that should've been handled by management. The live music was a vibe and overall would recommend to try out Baar Baar atleast once but there's a lot of other amazing restaurants with great food and better service in the city too.
🤮
2019 Restaurant Week my gf and I decide that we wanted to
2019 Restaurant Week my gf and I decide that we wanted to try out Baar Baar as we are huge fans of Indian food. We loved it, the tasting menu was both a lot of food and all great. They had this cocktail my gf always tries to remember and asks about it each time she goes back - but no one seems to remember it or we cant find a record of it. We quickly establish it as our anniversary spot. Flash forward to today. Baar Baar has significantly dropped in quality and flavor. What was once my favourite Indian restaurnt in NY has become maybe one of the most bland and unexciting that Ive tasted. The jackfruit cutlet was fine, but a weird texture for jackfruit. the crust wasnt bad it was spiced similar to a samosa while the inside was pretty much flavorless mush. I had the tandoori mushroom as a large plate. I am a vegetarian (basically vegan) and Im pretty sure this dish used chicken broth in it, or the mushrooms were just VERY fishy tasting. Im hoping for the later but itd be nice to at least know on the menu wat made less obvious vegetarian dishes not vegan (i.e. cream ect.) While this does not necessarily contribute to the low review, there was an offputting flavor which reminded me of boiled chicken. Ive had oyster mushrooms before and it wasnt quite the same. Nonetheless. The taste. It tasted like Italian food. Just straight up bland Italian food that you would get while on a long drive and theres nothing else for miles. It wasnt bad. It just wasnt good. As for my gfs dish she got the Paneer Pinwheel. The tomatos tasted like canned tomatos, and she had seen 4 pinwheels in photos on yelp but recieved 3. I wish we had pictures to compare but honestly I was pretty upset by the poor service ill describe in a bit. Anyway as for the taste. It tasted like...yup Italian Food. I was honestly perplexed how some of the spices were clearly used but to what extent eludes me. Oh yea and the naan was fine, tasted like the stop and shop naan but with less flavor. Its $8 tho for one the size of a small plate... also food doesnt come with rice which is honestly pretty crazy for an indian restaurant. I also forgot about the cocktails. Ill save some reading time here and just say ull get a better cocktail from applebees. they were just sugar water with barely any flavorFinally. The service. Our server seemed to be annoyed, not sure why and seemed mad when we only ordered 1 small plate. and 1 piece of naan. To be honest we did that because we felt that if that small plate were good we would just order more and skip on the large plate or just stick around for a while order a bunch of drinks and food. Anyway he basically only showed up to ask for our orders and try to get us to order more. Also was very weird how fast we got our orders. Literally got them 5 minutes after order them, which def adds to the whole fast food feeling I was getting. So ultimately - the prices seem higher and while the tasting menu price was a great value for the taste back in 2019, the lack of that menu and the low quality makes this a very bad experience. For $130 what we got was a little bit of not great Italian food and bad service. Because of that we removed Baar Baar as our anniversary restaurant

Great food but the rowdy brunch crowd is not the most
Great food but the rowdy brunch crowd is not the most desirable. Food is good but expect creativity better at this price range. Lovely staff, with knowledge of wine pairings

Baar Baar is a high-end gastrobar presenting a modern take
Baar Baar is a high-end gastrobar presenting a modern take on Indian dishes. The dark, trendy atmosphere and the friendly service made this a great place to share a bunch of innovative small and large plates. To start, the Dahi Puri were six crispy, hollow balls with a filling of tamarind, avocado, and a creamy yogurt mousse; the Cauliflower 65 were deep-fried florets tossed with podi masala and served with a chili peanut chutney and curd-rice mousse; and the Kolkata Jackfruit Cutlet was a rectangular fritter made of shredded jackfruit, served with kasundi mayo and a mint/cilantro chutney on the side. My favorite starters were the two kulchas (stuffed flatbreads) on the menu--one came with a red filling of piquillo peppers and was topped with grated manchego cheese, and the other had a green pea filing and was topped with aromatic summer truffle shavings and dollops of tangy goat cheese! And then came our mains. The Butter Chicken was a sweet, tomatoey red pepper makhani gravy containing large chunks of tandoori chicken. But my favorite main was the Sea Bass Paturi, a huge, boneless fillet of sea bass stuffed with herbs and cooked in a banana leaf. The meaty, aromatic fish was served with the most delicious Bengal mustard cream on the side, which had a nicely balanced savory, spicy flavor and creamy texture, and went nicely with the rice, garlic naan, and chili cheese naan we ordered on the side. Overall, this was an absolutely delicious meal featuring bold Indian flavors, beautiful plating, and spot-on execution too!
🙂
Service was excellent, ambience was great.
Food quality was top notch. Would highly recommend for great tasting Indian food.

Maybe it was just a bad day but the hostess was extremely
Maybe it was just a bad day but the hostess was extremely confrontational and rude -- not exactly the experience you want to have on an evening out. Then they went and charged us double on half the check which we caught after we'd paid and they nearly charged us hundreds of dollars in excess. The food was fairly good but that doesn't compensate for staff behavior. I wanted to like this place so much but our experience was truly unpleasant.EDIT: I read the other reviews and did some googling. Looks like the owners have a reputation for treating the staff badly and a manager even had a sexual harassment lawsuit which the owners downplayed. I feel for the staff if that's the pressure they're working under. What a trainwreck!
😍
Great food and love their Bollywood brunch.

TLDRpros: cute spacecons: expensive, mediocre food, rude
TLDRpros: cute spacecons: expensive, mediocre food, rude staff, band so loud you can't hear anyone at your table AND the loud music isn't even the kind you can dance toI had high hopes for Baar Baar and was left extremely disappointed. First of all, they have so many rules about minimum orders placed by everyone in the party, party won't be seated until everyone is there, you have to be right on time or you'll get charged, etc. All reasonable except they weren't ready for us when my entire party arrived on time for our reservation. The hostesses were not communicating well with one another and were clearly overwhelmed. I would sympathize but the result was them taking it out on the guests who literally just walked through the door. One hostess is telling my group to come in and see our IDs, and then the other hostess turns around and tells us to stand to the side and wait our turn. One hostess tells us our table should be ready and leaves to go check, then the other tells us all to go wait by the bar. Then the first hostess turns back around and gets annoyed with us for being by the bar when our table is ready. One of the hosts, Mahek?, was literally so rude for no reason at all. Just a really sour note to start off our brunch. Then comes the food, really expensive and not what it's worth. The masala fries were really yummy, and so was the chicken tikka masala. But you could get easily as good chicken tikka masala at hundreds of other Indian places for half the price ($39 for chicken tikka masala and rice?) Wasn't a huge fan of the malai chicken mac & cheese. The "pitchers" were definitely carafes, not pitchers. And had about But that's okay, because the reason we made this reservation weeks in advance and decided the inflated prices were worth it was because of the ambience/environment. We were told Baar Baar brunch would be fun, Bollywood dance party vibes. Instead, we were seated right next to the band that was setting up (not a DJ, as there is on most days). The band was setting up and muttering "check check check test test test" for the first half hour we were seated. Then when they started playing, it was just lots of slow jams. Which would be fine, if, again, we weren't told that Baar Baar brunch was a FUN, DANCEY vibe. The band kept asking the audience to give them energy back, sing along, get on our feet, etc. but stays playing slow jams and even after we asked them to play some upbeat tunes they said to wait until 2. We did wait until 2, and they played 2 upbeat songs on an aux cord and THEN they RESTARTED the same set. I just felt really disappointed. I guess the experience really depends on what day you go and if the band or a DJ is there.
😒
I went to Baar Baar in the morning.
There were many rows of alcohol on shelves in the bar area, and it was a nice warm day outside, with a little drizzle. A bachelorette(?) party was going on while we were sitting there. Many people there had gucci bags.
🙂
Heard a lot about this place from friends, so I went there
Heard a lot about this place from friends, so I went there over the weekend. Decor, food(delicious & unique), music, drinks, staff.... everything was so spot on. A bit expensive but worth the price. On a constructive note, I wish the owners would do something about the old Indian lady who seemed to be the manager but was angry at literally everything/everyone. We all have bad days but that does not mean you yell at the staff in front of your customers or keep interrupting the music scene. At one point she got very angry and threatened to stop music just coz a kid got carried away with dancing. Agreed that dancing on chairs is wrong and no one should do that. But why kill the vibe for the rest of the 99% of us. Chill!!!! No one was being disrespectful or out of hand. Not only we kept noticing her being mad at her staff but was not very polite to our party the moment we walked in. My friends felt like they were in school all over again. Hospitality industry is not for everyone. All of the other staff(including the bartenders & bouncer) treated us better but lets just say it wasn't the brightest day for this lady. I wish you guys well and despite it all, would consider coming back for the food and vibe.

This restaurant has been on my bucket list for a while! So
This restaurant has been on my bucket list for a while! So happy I was able I try it during winter restaurant week! I did their prefix course with the wine pairing! The manager was so kind who explained to us the wine that was being paired with the food throughout. If we didn't like the pairing he even switched it out for something else! I went with a party of 5. They all ordered drinks as well. Their drinks are definitely worth trying! I highly recommend them- they're a piece of art. Their garlic naan out of this world. Super soft and Garlically the way it should be. I had their panner pin wheel in a rich tomato sauce gravy delicious! Their butter chicken was also good. I wouldn't recommend the lamb kema- not a fan of the consistency or taste.
😍
I came here for restaurant week in February and Baar baar
I came here for restaurant week in February and Baar baar shined across a few criteria:- value of restaurant week was really good in both quantity and quality- service was very attentive - the food was delicious I ordered the cauliflower 65, the pinwheel paneer curry and the carrot halva cake. All 3 of these items were major hits. The Caulifower 65 really stood out because I haven't had a decent vegetarian version and they really got it right. This restaurant is a bit more fancier and on the pricy side, so I may be returning for the next restaurant week.
😒
I want to start this off by saying that the food itself was
I want to start this off by saying that the food itself was easily 5 stars. I've been to both Baar Baar and Rooh several times and have never had a bad meal. This particular experience was stained in my memory (pun intended) by the glass of red wine that a waiter accidentally spilled into my lap, getting all over my shirt, coat and onto my mom's coat next to me. It's an unfortunate incident that the staff could've handled better, which is why I'm writing this review. The wine and broken glass was swiftly cleaned up by the staff and we received brief apologies in the process from the other waiters helping to mop up. I asked for club soda to douse my sweater in, but because of this had to sit the rest of my meal in a wet shirt and left with coats smelling of red wine. When the check came, the bill we were presented with was the full bill. No comped drinks for the inconvenience or anything to make up for the dry cleaning bill that we will rack up. When we asked the waiter if there was anything he could do, he first presented us with an already open bottle of wine that he said we could have. When we said no, and that we wanted to leave, we had to wait upwards of 15 minutes for any sort of resolution. Finally, we were offered 10% on the whole bill and my glass of wine was free. This I believe is an acceptable discount considering the circumstances, but annoying and unprofessional that we not only had to fight to get it, but that no manager came to speak with us and apologize. The whole situation left me with a bad taste in my mouth despite the fact that the food itself was truly amazing.
😍
Loved the decor and loved the food.
I was here for brunch and loved their passion fruit pani puri. The space is massive for being in New York City! Highly recommend.

So everyone had to older a $40 dish to be able to eat here
So everyone had to older a $40 dish to be able to eat here (no splitting) which was crazy because the dishes were not worth that price. You also only get 90 minutes even if you reserved beforehand. After90 minutes they will start gathering your dishes and encourage you to go to the lounge area, which it was too packed in the restaurant to even get to that area so we didn't make it there .The music was wayy too loud to actually hear anyone speak. It was as if we were having a meal at a concert. The performers were good, but personally if you don't know the Bollywood music, you won't enjoy it as much as someone who does. My friends who knew the songs loved the place, but to me, I would've been happier with a 99 cent pizza .The waitress we had was super rude and impatient. So that kinda ruined my experience. Also the roasted chicken tasted like a grocery store roariserie chicken lol...nothing special and certainly not worth $40.For me, this was a one and done kind of thing, but I am glad my friends enjoyed it!
Please please do better its a very good restaurant with best locatiom. You have to do better. Worst appetizers I have ever had. Please do better. I loved the drinks no complaints but no stars for food and if you are indian that matters the most.
