And no one should be surprised this place did not survive the pandemic. I understand keeping it small and special, But like Rose's Luxury and Thai Xing you can still keep a place exclusive without being frustratingly restricted, and therefore ensure your longevity.
Be the first to ReplyI had the best time at bad saint.
Not only was the food so so delicious, the service was top notch. Our server was so kind and friendly and offered suggestions and was just really accommodating. We got there at 7:30 on a Saturday and they were able to seat us very quickly but I know they typically have a little bit of a wait, but I PROMISE it is worth it!!!
Be the first to ReplyGot some takeout on a Tuesday night with a friend.
Order was a tiny bit delayed but well worth the wait. Everything was so fresh and with ample portions. We got the skirt steak noodle dish (Pancit Canton) and the squash Curry dish (Adobong Dilaw ) The noodle dish was absolutely decadent well-dressed. I wasn't as impressed with the squash Curry dish. I almost detected a hint of too much curry powder not to do with flavor but affecting texture. Definitely need to go back and try more items. I would say it's worth the hype and the price, I feel like most times Filipino dishes stick to the fried pork and sour sorts of items. This was more exploratory experience.

If you're looking for some delicious Filipino food then you have to stop here! It was my first time having vegan adobo and it was a beautiful dish full of vibrant flavors. The cheese bread was ordered on a whim as an appetizer and I was using it to soak up all of the juices from our meals!

Will come again when the weather warms up as there is only outdoor seating. Also, check their socials as some dishes may not be available.
Be the first to ReplyOur dinner was so flavorful and cooked perfectly.
We had the fried chicken (so dang good!), cheese bread, curry, and Brussels sprouts-couldn't tell you which was my favorite because they were honestly all that good. Genevieve, the owner, is so friendly and kinda. Can't wait to come back!

Really great hole in the wall Filipino place that has very traditional, great tasting food. ย My favorite is the spicy pork belly pinakbet, but the adoring dilaw is a great vegan option, if that's more up your alley. They also have great bread and the Filipino cheese bread is massive, but could honestly be a bit cheesier. ย Overall, super good, traditional food and will definitely be back soon.

The prices are outrageously high for the amount of food you get. Not worth the expense. Our host on Friday night, 2/11/22, was very nice but not terribly knowledgeable either, first informing us that we had to order through the website even though seated at a table 5 steps away from her then eventually taking our order since the system did not work. For $32, I expect more than 2 little prawns, served in a cardboard box with a paper plate and plastic fork. If you like value for your food, skip Bad Saint.

I've been dying to try Bad Saint and takeout was a perfect t opportunity since there is always a long line for reservations. Food traveled well and everything was labeled perfectly. Food was flavorful. We also tried the pork and really enjoyed the flavor. I would love to try the menu when the weather is warmer!
Be the first to ReplyFinally decided to try out bad saint after living next door
Finally decided to try out bad saint after living next door for months and I am kicking myself for not going earlier. ย I have never had Filipino food before so was really excited and blown away. We got the pork shoulder, vegan adobo dish, and the gem salad. The salad was low key the best salad I have ever had. So many flavors I had never experienced together. I also LOVED the vegan dish. It had some coconut in it that made the sauce amazing. I'm currently heating up the leftovers to eat it again and can't wait. On top of the great food, the service was excellent. We ordered from our phones but the food runner and staff were delightful. Can't wait to go again!

This review is based on an experience close to a year ago; thus, given the changes to weekly menus, it may be biased to that particular menu. However, close to $200 was spent for about 6-7 dishes and should be adequate to get an overall sampling of their culinary philosophy. I'm a Filipino and an avid cook of Southeast Asian cuisine. I wanted so much to love the meal as I want Americans to appreciate the fusion of traditional dishes with novel ingredients (honestly, traditional everyday Filipino food to the Western palate can be rather unimaginative, fatty and limited in its use of available tropical spices). Traditional Filipino food is thus in dire need of a renaissance, culling practices from our neighbors in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. I do recall dishes that evening which included a squash dish, lumpia, empanadas and laing. The meal was shared with 5 other Filipinos. Our overall reaction was somewhat negative. While we appreciated the attempt at fusing flavors not traditionally seen in the Philippines, we concluded that complexity does not necessarily equate with appetizing food. The squash dish was earthy and excessively herbal, complicated with an overuse of Indian spices. The lumpia was too narrow, leading to the wrapper being the primary taste. Traditional laing (gabi/taro leaves simmered with coconut cream) was a wholly bastardized version in which the wonderful flavor imparted by generally bitter taro was lost. The empanadas were quite good and equal to any I've had in Argentina. Bottom line: based solely on this menu, I think the celebrated chef clearly appreciates the value of exploring novel flavor pairings to enhance traditional Filipino food. At times, they probably hit the mark, while other times the pairings do clash in very unpleasant ways. If I was not so averse to overpriced establishments (most Filipinos I know were unwilling to wait hours pre-pandemic for a table for their own food, while more than willing to wait that long for Japanese, Thai, French, etc. food!), I would return there for another try. I give Bad Saint 3.5/5 stars.

I received a gift card to Bad Saint and had never spotted it in my years of living in Columbia Heights. Boy was I missing out! I placed an order for takeout and was given water + mosquito spray (these DC summers are brutal!) while I waited for my food. I ordered the short rib adobo, which was absolutely delicious. The portion size was really big, enough for leftovers the next day. They have a small amount of outdoor seating available as well.

I hadn't tried filipino cuisine before and this place was recommended by a friend. Because of pandemic they had self-service setting, so we had to order online and they delivered the food in boxes as if it's for pickup with disposable utensils, etc. This type of service for one of the best food I've ever tasted was bad but I can't critique them in this department since it's pandemic. But the food was amazing. It was one of the most unique taste I've ever tried. There is no food that I can mention here that you can compare with this cuisine. We ordered two types of Adobong (it was like a stew), beef short rib and vegan adobo with turmeric and coconut milk along with a dessert-like Labanos at Pinaitum. The stews were served with amazing rice and the portion were kinda reasonable. There were two of us but we couldn't finish our food. The subtlety and the uniqueness of their spices is something that you can't easily find anywhere.
Be the first to ReplyNot really sure what the hype is with this place.
Because of the pandemic they're only doing takeout. But if you were to do a sit-down dining experience I think it would be pretty much the same deal. They don't take reservations and they're very small and difficult to find. It's a few doors down from the wonderland bar. Very nondescript but I put the order online. The food that we got included the fried chicken sandwich which was okay. Also we ended up getting a the short ribs which was extremely salty. We did get the brussel sprouts which is good and the dessert with the burnt coconut and radish which was terrible. This is touted to be a Filipino restaurant but there are many traditional dishes which are strangely absent from the menu such as pancit. They also don't have anything but vegan adobo. Their menu is also pretty sparse and I'm not sure if that's impacted by the pandemic although I'm told that it is nothing to do with the pandemic at all. Parking in the serious extremely difficult to find and it is all street. Good luck not getting a ticket and dealing with overpriced Uber rides at this point in time If you live in the area it might be worth checking out otherwise I would not go out of my way to try this again.
Be the first to ReplyRight now they are only doing take out/pick up or delivery.
There is outdoor seating and most of it is covered under a tarp. I ordered pick up and ate the food at home.I placed the order online 15 minutes before their official opening time and they were already out of one menu item-the radishes with burnt coconut. It said the order would be ready in 55 minutes (40 minutes after their official opening time). So I would recommend placing your order as early as possible because they sell out of their items quick. Everything was great! We tried lechon, beef short rib adobo, vegan adobo, fried brussel sprouts, tomato salad, Filipino chicken sandwich, whole fried red snapper, and Passion Fruit-Kalamansi Pie. The order came with four bowls of rice. It's hard to say which one was my favorite because they were all good. The ones I liked the most were the vegan adobo and tomato salad. The fried red snapper was very tender and had a wonderfully fried crispy exterior. The Passion Fruit-Kalamansi Pie was like a custard tart on a graham cracker crust. This place is definitely worth a try!

Ay NAKO! (Tagalog for omg!!!!) this food took me back to the time when my mom and grandma would cook for me. They don't have indoor dining yet but they set up a four table situation outside to eat whatever food you take out. I got the Isda Pritong (fried red snapper) and this was enough to share with two other people! Their menu is also low key limited - they were already sold out of a handful of menu items so for dinner, order your food ASAP (starts at 5 PM).
