BADMAASH Downtown LA Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
BEST CHAI I'VE EVER HAD.
I came to Badmaash because it looked like modern Indian food / fusion. I do like Indian food and wanted to see what a fusion spin would be like. Everything was delicious! My Indian friend said it's more like fusion as opposed to authentic Indian food, but we don't care if it's fusion or not because everything was so tasty! At first I didn't want to get the staple dishes like butter chicken or Tikka masala but after looking at the menu, I really did want to have butter chicken that day. Loved it. I'd like to return and try other dishes! My friend also recommended we order another dish but I can't remember what it was called. It had yogurt, tamarind sauce, and some other things and you eat with something like a nacho chip. It was delicious and very new to me! I love trying new food. Only complaint is that the music is too loud so you have to yell when talking. The best part of my meal was getting the chai for dessert!!!!!! I normally have chai made from a mix from a bag, and I was told that chai from a bag is usually not very good. Real good chai is often homemade. I guess I'll say I've never had real good chai until now! The oat chai at Badmaash is the best chai I've ever had by a long shot. My Indian friend (who makes chai at home) said that the oat chai was pretty good. The website says they sell their chai in stores such as Erewhon so I'll be getting some more chai for myself!

I am the first to admit that I am extremely critical of Indian restaurants. Ate at Badmaash at the DTLA location for the first time last night. The flavors were amazing and we enjoyed everything we ordered. When the seek kebab came out in a gravy I was kind of skeptical as I have never seen it served that way. Absolutely loved the flavor. Goat with bone was great too. I wish they had parathas instead of just naan and roti. Food was on the heavier side but that is not necessarily a negative as good food generally is. Our server Miles was great.

This spot serves up sensational dishes with top-notch service. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine with a twist, this is the spot to check out - it's a fusion of flavors that won't disappoint. The music adds to the fantastic ambiance, and the diverse crowd creates a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be adding this place to my regular dining rotation. The only drawback is their limited liquor license, restricting options to beer and wine.
Nahh. The food lacked depth and the service was horrible.
Nahh. The food lacked depth and the service was horrible. I can get past bad service if the food is spectacular, but this ain't it. The chicken samosa was fine, the Dahl puri was almost all yogurt, way off balance. The short rib was over salted, the tandoori chicken had too strong of pepper flavor, and the okra had nothing to bind it together or balance its flavor. Our server pretty much checked out once we put in our order, too. Never around, didn't bring the extra rice we ordered, and we had to flag down someone else for the check. Indian food is my favorite, but not here.

I loved it all! I'm currently taking a course on food and wine in California and one of the assignments was to watch Badmassh's episode in The Migrant Kitchen series. Their story was so inspiring and so loving. I was amazed that it was located in LA. Born and raised in south east LA, currently living Sacramento and attending San Francisco State University, I was so happy chefs Nakul and Arjun and their parents place this beautiful place in SoCal. I travelled down, saying I was gonna visit family, but I truly wanted to experience this. It was wonderful. My friend and I were lucky that we had the whole restaurant to ourselves and our server was so nice and knowledgeable on all the dishes. He even gave us the Parle-G ice cream sandwich and hot chai to top off our meals. It truly was a great experience. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're in dtla. I also recommend watching their KECT episode too! I'll leave the url for y'all !! https://lifeandthyme.com/video/migrant-kitchen-badmaash/

Some of my colleagues and I went to this restaurant for the first time. The food was excellent taste and quality. The Lamb Curry was a little spicier than I expected, but it was delicious and went perfectly with rice and garlic naan. The waiter, John, was very nice and courteous. He single handedly was serving all of the guests with a high focus and pleasant presence. Highly recommend this place. Enjoy

I was interested in visiting what they advertised as Indian fusion cuisine. I had difficulty identifying the fusion aspect of the menu. The place is small and there is very little space between the tables. The restaurant was out of all their red wines except one. It was not very good. The waiter suggested one that was not on the menu for $85 per bottle. The food was good but not as high quality as I expected. Of all the entrees we tried the grilled chicken stood out. The Indian cuisine is not up to my standards. I was generous with a three-star rating. Poor price/value relationship.
Absolutely not the place for Indian food.
.. and for the positive reviews... honestly I think they are written by folks who have never had proper Indian food. The short rib dish had chunks that were so dry it was stale and crunchy in spots... it tasted as if it was pre-cooked and then microwaved with the sauces. (Should I post a photo of this tragic waste of an expensive cut of meat?) The butter chicken... below average and way too sweet and greasy. It tastes very Americanized... not just a fusion version. The small container of rice for $6 is insane. The chili cheese naan... also a no, especially for $10! It was the smallest pieces of naan lacking that doughy chewy goodness and with way too much cheese + not enough chilis. My friend and I were SUPER disappointed after spending $80 for this food. While this wasn't the worst Indian food we've had, it's down there. Lol.
Plenty of room to improve
Service was good however the food tasted quite below average. As a vegetarian, the choices are quite narrow. It seemed a bit overhyped
Good & tasty
Came with a friend. The seating areas are pretty tight/small. But nice venue in general. Clean with nice decor. Good food. We had ordered the chicken tikka and Chana dish with naan. The chicken is really nice. The Chana was okay (I like it a little more spicy, but good still). Portion size and price is reasonable. Service is friendly and prompt.
Indian Food
Went there with friends, found this place on internet. We liked the atmosphere and the service. dishes were somewhat okay. You can try this for once. Try their chicken dishes, they are liked.
Excellent Indian restaurant
Fantastic Indian restaurant. Great service and authentic cuisine. Nice decor, very personable server and truly wonderful food.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
