Bao Bei Vancouver Reviews from The Last Year
We walked in with no reservation on a Saturday evening
We walked in with no reservation on a Saturday evening right when the restaurant opened. We got bar seating immediately and was treated extremely kindly by the hostess, waiter and bartender. We got the chino margarita which was the perfect consistency, foamy and not too sweet. The kick ass fried rice was incredible. Granted the housemade xo sauce is what really made the dish go up a notch but even without it, we thoroughly enjoyed. We also got the siu mai dumplings. So flavorful. We ended with the brown butter mochi cake. It's tart, chewy and the oranges add a unique freshness. We loved it. Ambiance was simple and nice, nothing crazy. It is more of a cosy small restaurant because of the small space
Crowded but friendly
Bao Bei offers a delightful fusion of Asian flavors that tantalize the taste buds and leave you craving for more. The service here is impeccable, with attentive staff who ensure a memorable dining experience. However, the only downside is the proximity of the tables, which can make it feel a bit cramped. Despite this, the friendly atmosphere encourages lively conversations and adds to the charm of the place.

Mixed review
Bao Bei has been around for quite awhile, but never got around to trying it until this December. When it first opened, it was popular because it was a new take on Chinese food, but after all this time, it's not a unique concept. We arrived at open, so it wasn't busy, and were immediately seated. It's a small, dark space, so great for a more intimate date setting. We looked over the menu and tried the following: - Crispy Chicken Thighs - Good. Have certainly had similar dishes before, so nothing standout, but a solid dish still. - Lamb Potstickers - Very good. I normally don't like lamb, but I liked these. Really deft handwork to make these. Memorable. - Skirt Steak - OK. Steak was fine, but I didn't feel the ingredients came together for me. Felt more like leftovers thrown on top without much thought to purpose. - Taiwanese Cauliflower - Very good. Probably the surprise dish for the night. Wasn't expecting too much, but this came through as the most unique and best made dish of the nighit. - Sticky Rice Cakes - Bad. The one dish I wish I never ordered. Already mushy, the sauce made the overall texture even worse. Also too salty. Service was OK. Friendly and attentive enough, so no complaints. Overall, I thought the food was too inconsistent to really appreciate it overall. I liked the lamb potstickers and Taiwanese cauliflower, but thought the rice cakes were terrible and everything else was sort of average. As for as concept goes, it's not that original. The only thing going for it is that Chinatown doesn't have many good Chinese restaurants anymore, so this place might pass as the next best option in the area.
Amazing spot! It was recommended by three different people
Amazing spot! It was recommended by three different people and I get why! You must have the king pea tips, trust me! Also the bap buns were great. The service was top notch as well, so accommodating.
Fun experience while visiting Vancouver.
Great service and food, and ambience was nice too. This place is a great place if you are looking for a good date spot.
Fantastic attentive service from the moment we walked in
Fantastic attentive service from the moment we walked in the door. Especially enjoyed the kick ass rice with prawns and the beef tartar. Our waitress (dark curly hair, glasses) was a delight and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine. It was my first time dining here and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Service itself gets a star because of how attentive and detail oriented our waiter was. The food was good, but not great. It's a Chinese brasserie, so portions are pretty small. While meant for sharing, appetizer plates like the fried tofu literally come out to two bite-sized pieces of tofu. While we had skirt steak and their fried rice (too salty), the star of the night was the manitou (you get two). The buns were made and steamed in house, and they are packed full. The interior of this place kind of reminds me of a home. It's just one long space with lots of tables pushed together. All in all, it was fun coming here, but we probably wouldn't be back. If we're getting Chinese, we would probably steer towards Richmond.
Mixed experience this evening.
The pea tips, cauliflower, eggplant, and tofu skin were all great. The wagyu skirt steak was not great. I wouldn't have ordered the fried chicken wings, but we did the chef's choice, and it was included.
One of the best shared table dining experiences I've ever
One of the best shared table dining experiences I've ever had. The menu started strong with a tingly pineapple hot sauce to pair with the oyster mushrooms. This juxtaposed well with the pickled eggplant. While we waited for further dishes we watched as our neighboring table repeatedly kept ordering the shao bing flatbread. When ours arrived we quickly realized why. The bok choy may be the best I've ever had. And the kick @$$ fried rice delivered a unique take on the staple dish. The wait staff was friendly and quick and the ambiance well matched the food!

We just got home from a dinner out at Bao Bei and we are eating the amazing basque cheesecake. Wonderful meal and amazing dessert!
Amazing veggie food!
Ate here with friends in August 2023, some of the best food on our trip to Canada! Amazing service, great vibes in the restaurant and good selection of food for us all. The tofu was so great we ordered it again! Highly recommend
Run, do not walk, to Bao Bei.
Fabulous fusion. The chef's tasting menu is a mouthwatering tour around the Pacific Rim.
Stellar food and service
A friend back home told us about this great small restaurant in Chinatown and we booked a spot right at opening. Oh my. Fabulous food, wonderful staff, really great!
Delicious Food
I would had given this restaurant a 5 rating if it wasn't for the unwelcome experience we had with the Maitre d' PROS The food was delicious, the service was excellent and I liked how you can see a clean kitchen with the cooks preparing the meals. I enjoyed their special drinks too. CONS: The Maitre D . We arrived 5 minutes before opening time and were the first customers coming to an empty restaurant. The Maitre D asked us to wait outside in the heat in a very unwelcome manner. We waited outside and the weather was very hot. When the Maitre d said that we could come in, I asked to be seated in their coolest area of the restaurant. The Maitre D acted annoyed and asked us to seat in the farthest area from the air conditioner. It felt warm there. When I went to use the bathroom at the end of the restaurant, I realized that the back is the coldest area, but it was too late for me to make changes as other customers were seating there. To the restaurant management: Please train this Maitre d to be kinder and more welcome. Your food is delicious, the rest of the staff is wonderful.
Uniquely Delicious
Bao Bei lives up to its reputation as an inventive, scrumptious dining experience. Cocktails — like the huge pina colada & aperol spritz — were a great start. Every kind of tofu we tried was delicious. Chicken wings & killer fried rice were favorites. Our server advised us well. Be sure to make a reservation for this unique and popular place.
A disappointing meal at Bao Bei
This is supposed to be “unique takes on classic Chinese cuisine” in a “Compact, stylish Chinatown space” not an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, so set your quantity expectations accordingly. (We went with the promise of small plates of “playful, creative” food. We had the Chefs Choice menu and were sadly underwhelmed. Our "Schnaks" were: Eggplant with ginger, Bean curd with mushroom, and Crispy Tofu with a delicious garlic sweet soy sauce. Everything tasted better once dunked in that sauce, it was the highlight of the night. It made all three dishes better. Next up was Pork with Ramp Dumplings and Crab Prawn Dumplings accompanied by a Vinegar sauce. Perfectly adequate but uninspired, certainly not “inventive and fun.” The black bean bok choy with spicy peanuts arrived next. Tough to keep peanuts on bok choy, but it was tasty. This was followed by Laksa marinated chicken wings with turmeric mayo and Thai chilis. While the chilis were actually spicy, the wings themselves while physically hot, were plain and not crispy enough for our liking. The mantou buns filled with braised hoisin pork, miso serrano aioli, turmeric dill kohlrabi and the Halibut with zucchini, lobster broth, and fennel seed oil... were both bland, not “positively irresistible.” The Halibut flavours were so subtle, I felt it needed spice. I added a few remaining chillis from the chicken wings, brightening it up on my tongue. With a chef's menu, timing is key. Our plates were seemingly rushed out on a conveyor, we were finished in 1 hour. In addition to the disappointing meal, we were annoyed by the space itself. The dining room is loud and the kitchen itself was also loud. Our table was directly in front of the kitchen window, which meant we heard every order yelled out. Every... single... order... was yelled towards our table. Why? Why this layout? Why not yell the orders INTO the kitchen Chef Joël Watanabe, instead of at the diners? It boggles the mind. We did not get to try the "kick-ass fried rice," though we fear it would over-promise and under-deliver like the rest of our meal did, to us at least.
Terrific Asian fusion restaurant
Terrific little Asian fusion restaurant. Very contemporary vibe. French and Indian influences, but Chinese at its core. We shared four dishes, three vegetarian, one pescatarian. Plus a couple of lagers that went perfectly with the food. Only one I wouldn’t request again would be the small rice cakes. Everything else was stupendous.
Better than average Chinese cuisine in a fun spot
Great find in Chinatown. It's sort of legendary, which makes me wary, but it lives up to the hype. The owners were happy to reseat us after we were stuck next to a really overbearing guest, which we are grateful for. And the potstickers and dumplings and shao bing (flatbread with lamb, green beans and chillis) were all satisfying. Very fun urban ambience.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Appointment
I was waiting on the transfer for name but it hasn’t happened yet and my reservation is tonight , will it be an issue that is hasn’t changed into my name yet
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
