Amazing Cocktails
Best bar experience ever! Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Delicious cocktails! Will definitely visit again - reservations are hard to get but worth the wait!
Be the first to ReplySuperlative craft cocktail experience
We have frequented any number of high-end craft cocktail bars in SF. Hands down, BLA excels by comparison. We go every time we’re in Honolulu. The combination of its very small, intimate setting and the superior skill, creativity, and showmanship of its bartender/owner are what set BLA apart. It will ruin you for other craft cocktail experiences. Two pro tips: 1) It is incongruously located up a short staircase in the ground floor lobby of a downtown office building, which can take some exploring to locate; 2) Reservations are mandatory — no exceptions — with bar seating best secured 4 weeks in advance.

An awesome cocktail experience will be had by anyone visiting this gem in an office building in downtown Honolulu. It is a speakeasy, so it requires reservations and it is a quiet place for guests to truly enjoy their libations. Both my wallet and liver will attest that I have enough experience drinking at these types of places to recognize it’s excellence.
Be the first to ReplyClassiest Cocktail Bar in Honolulu
Bar Leather Apron ranked at the top of my lists for cocktails in Honolulu and lived up to its reputation. I was unable to secure a reservation for drinks on a Tuesday night, but had hoped that my partner and I would be able to score seats as walk-ins. Finding the bar itself was a challenge, but look for the brightly lit lobby of the office building, go through the doors, look for a flight of stairs that leads to the bar, just off the elevator bank. Given we had visited while Hawaii still had statewide restrictions for indoor dining, we waited about 10 minutes to be seated, but had been greeted by the bartender, had our vaccinations and ID checked and his apologies for the wait as he took care of some orders before he could seat us. Also, we had just made it in time before last call and could get in a nightcap before the bar closed for the evening (it was a Tuesday night, and operating under restrictions and in a commercial business building). The inside of the bar is highlighted by a polished wood bar, with comfortable bar seats. We were seated at a hightop off to the side of the bar. The feel was very much of a stylized Japanese whisky bar. The bar was able to make a non-alcoholic Negroni for my partner, which he said was the most interesting mocktail he had ever had. The server helped steer me towards the Royal Kunia as the better nightcap. We had a good view of the bar, and interesting cocktails involving smoke and fire were being made. The mixology here is stellar and I would gladly return over and over again for a cocktail here.
Be the first to ReplyYou HAVE to try the Mai Tai
I never thought I would pay $20 for a cocktail, but the Mai Tai at Bar Leather Apron is worth it. First of all the atmosphere in there is so cool. Everything is dark wood and leather. It feels like a bar from Mad Men, or some sort of secret place. The bartender brought each Mai Tai out in its own corked bottle with smoke trapped inside from Hawaiian mesquite wood. As he poured the drinks he explained the ingredients and how they were made, and the scintillating smell of smoke filled the air. The flavor of this drink brought every cocktail I've ever had to shame. Each sip blossomed with notes I had never experienced before, flavors I couldn't name, and the smoke on the end was just amazing. I also tried a yuzu sour because after that cocktail I had to know more. It was also extremely good and a nice contrast. Wonderful and also a work of art. We did not have reservations for this place; we just crossed our fingers and walked in at 9pm on a Tuesday night. I was told to make reservations ahead of time and this place is definitely worth doing that to be sure you can get in. Best bar experience of my life. Someone all the way in Virginia insisted I go here and get the Mai Tai and I'm so glad they did.

My favorite Bar Experience. Mysterious and Fancy makes whiskey and Scotch fun for everyone. Bartenders are professional and well groomed. When you drink here you feel special.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best speakeasy bars on the island.
Pro tip: - Make reservation beforehand. - location: walk into the business building and continue walking to the center and walk upstairs. - one of the best speakeasy bars on the island. What a great speakeasy concept. A small cozy lounge setup that can fit up to 20 people total. Each of the drinks seemed to be a spin of popular drinks including a few revisions to the classic Old fashioned. The physical location is a bit tricky though, it’s located in the center of the building on the first floor. You must first enter the business building, pass the elevators into the center and then take the stairs to the second floor. Since it’s a small setup, it’s best to make reservations before coming. Every drink we tried was flavorful, some more sweeter than others. Overall, some of the best drinks on the island.

Be the first to ReplyWow, what a fabulous experience!
Have been hearing about this place for the last 2 trips (2 years). Finally remembered to make a reservation 30 days in advance of our vacation - thru their website. Our party of 4 reserved a spot for 7:30pm. They replied with an email to let us know they would allow 2.5 hours for us to linger thru our drinks, 2 drink minimum per person. They also allow 15 minutes leeway, incase you have a problem finding them. We finally found the place just in time! Its actually located inside a tall office building, on the mezzanine floor above some tiny shops in the building. Its a daytime office building, so not many people were around to help us locate the entrance of the BLA. Some reviews showed pics appearing as if the entrance was on the outside of the building, but you should note that its inside - no outside entrance. The immediate reaction to the ambiance struck as a classy, quiet, high end speak easy, masculine and dapper bar. The vast selection of whiskeys their known for line one wall and lots more hard to find/unusual booze is lined up behind the bar wall. We got to sit in a private small room to the side of the bar, rustic wood furniture and a coffee table seating area in the middle of the tiny room. Very quaint! Our waiter/bartender named Scott was exceptional at guiding us through their menu. The selection of craft cocktails they've developed blows you away. We decided on their award winning E Ho'O Pau Mai Tais, a Matcha Old Fashioned and a Leather Soul (Manhattan) $16-$20 each. We were very impressed with the way Scott poured cocktails at our table, smoke billowing out of the bottle and thorough explanation of all ingredients. Thought we might miss out not being seated at the bar, but that wasn't the case. Ordered their tapas - (1 of each type offered), $12-$16 per plate, and again could not believe the burst of exquisite flavors and wholesome goodness each provided. There was a long pause between getting our drinks and when the food would come to us, but I understand why. These drinks are meant to be sipped and savored, not chugged down. We had 2.5 hours, so why rush? The second round was equally as impressive. Water was plentiful and we were sure to drink it all to balance the powerful cocktails. Had it not been for a dinner plan we would have stayed the entire 2.5 hours and had another round. 3 in our party of 4 had initially planned on just having 1 cocktail and then a beer or wine. Once they tried their first cocktail it was a unanimous "OMG, I'm going for a second cocktail!" I say "When in Rome..." enjoy what they have to offer. Take your time to ready the several page menu, converse with your server and learn why they have some of the top bartenders in the nation. Don't try to outwit them, plenty of choices have already been created for you to select from. Worth going to, great experience and a very non-touristy classy bar.

A cool little bar hidden amongst a business building. Make sure you get a reservation and get your seat at the bar. The bartender explains the drinks while he makes them and you get a better show that you wouldn't get otherwise at one of the other very few tables in the room. Highly recommend for different spins on classic drinks.
