Walking into Bar Primi is a feel good experience—the room is warm and inviting—until the jarring and overly-loud music hits. Maybe start by toning down the music or changing it out for something that better fits the visual ambience.
We started with an order of Brussel sprouts with pepperoni and grated parmesan—probably the best version of this dish we have ever had. Definitely a winner.
Sadly, the food was downhill from there: Two complimentary meatballs were truly boring. An order of squid ink campanelle with crab and slices of a solidly hot pepper was reasonably tasty but really gluey. While the tiny clams on the spaghetti and clams were sweet and fresh, the pasta and sauce were uninspired. Even the bread had little character.
There is a short but well-selected wine list—the nebbiolo was a good vintage.
Our waiter, a student at Baruch College, was sweet, attentive, and professional
We skipped dessert.
