A seriously good Italian.
We were wandering around Paddington and stumbled upon Barbetta. What a find! it was Tuesday lunchtime, but the place was heaving. Always a good sign. Our table was up against the prep area, so we saw a couple of chefs making arancini balls and pasta. This is a serious Italian restaurant, with first class ingredients. My Caprese salad was perfect, with excellent prosciutto, and my wife's carpaccio of salmon was very tasty. A reasonably priced bottle of Barbetta label wine completed a very good light lunch, as good as you would find in Milan. Staff were charming. The only slight problem is the acoustics. Anyone with hearing difficulties will find it tricky.

The staff are great as is the coffee. Only gripe is the menu never changes and it would be great if hey could have a daily special .

Nice restaurant with good food - but when the staff are rude and non personable then that changes the whole experience. We were recently in Sydney for our daughters 21st- when we said where do you want to go for coffee on the morning if her bday she replied Baretta as she’s a loyal patron. When I mentioned it was her 21st and does she get a comp coffee( as she had an email saying come have a complementary coffee on your bday) the staff we not only rude but didn’t even wish her a happy bday. We left feeling annoyed and I will not be returning -disappointed.

Atrocious service actually none existent is a better descriptor. From being seated to finally ordering took 30 minutes and 3 requests from staff The waiter totally ignored us walking past at least 4 times as we tried to attract his attention. We managed to ask another staff member who told us she would get our waiter. We watched as the waiter was told we were waiting and he still didn’t come to take our order. We were finally served by a completely different staff member. Our waiter was very busy looking busy throughout our lunch and when we paid he asked if we had enjoyed everything. Yes except your dreadful service.

We often come here for breakfast. The staff are friendly and efficient, the space is nice and the food and not to forget the coffee is good. Only thing is they never change the breakfast menu or have specials.

Such a delightful experience at Barbetta. Gorgeous, traditional Italian food, cosy atmosphere with beautiful furnishings and design and an extensive food and drink menu. Also does great coffee!

I visited Barbetta for first time last weekend for a family celebration. There were eight of us (all adults) and we had the group menu where entree and dessert are set and there's a choice of several items for main course. The entree platters to share consisted of a tasty selection of olives and antipasto meats and one tuna dish (nothing much for our vegetarian, not even bread). The dessert was only a few little petit fours on a platter. The main courses were good - the pork cutlet and pasta dishes delicious. Steak apparently a bit tough. The main problem was the noise. It was hard to hear even the person next to you. We did ask the music be turned down and it was a little, but not much use going out to dinner with a group when you can't converse! Surely softer dinner music is appropriate for dinner! Also, service was not that friendly - just like a production line bringing the food. To be fair though, the music was so loud it's probably too exhausting to try and have a conversation with diners. Also 10% tip was automatically added for a group, an additional $90 charge which we didn't think was warranted due to the run of the mill service. Perhaps Barbetta is better for breakfast or lunch, but our group said we'd not go back there for dinner again.

We anticipated a great meal when a friend suggested meeting at one of his favorite restaurants, Barbetta. Alas, while his tagliatelle bolognese looked superb (and he said it tasted wonderful), the pasta special of the day featured three clams in a watery sauce; the pasta portion was skimpy and the whole thing had little flavor. The super verde bowl was very nice, if a bit bland. The service was professionally efficient but completely unsmiling.

We started with some antipasto - focaccia , simple but fresh and tasty
We each had different pastas for mains - all were outstanding - ravioli , beef ragu and the best lasagne I’ve ever had
There’s a great vibe in the place / our first time, can’t wait to go back
Barbetta could do better
Barbetta is such a welcomed addition to Paddington, fabulous ambience and consistently good food. However, the older matradee always has an attitude. Not once, but three times now. It’s offensive and off putting. With so much variety nearby — Fred’s, 10 William St, Alamentari, Il Baretto — there’s really no need to compromise on service with a smile.

Barbetta is an all day modern Italian cucina/trattoria in Elizabeth Street, Paddington, and it really feels like you’ve been transported to a bustling cafe in Italy. Even the names of the dishes get you thinking you’re there. The decor is in fitting too, with a bistro feel, retro counters, fully stocked bar and small section selling gourmet products including pasta, cheeses and deli meats to go. The front counter also offers a range of beautiful patisserie goods.
Barbetta offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with menus changing at midday. They excel on all fronts; decor, ambience, service, drinks and of course food.
We are in a dining party of three and begin with a coffee, which is Toby’s estate. On a hot day, the Freddo (or icy latte) is our pick. If you’re not up for coffee, maybe it’s a milkshake or tea, or if it’s an appropriate time, maybe a cocktail!
We’re there for brunch and the Pannacotta Alla Mandorla was calling our name. Made with almond milk, this pannacotta is light and soft, and certainly very wobbly as it should be. Topped with poached pear, rhubarb, dehydrated raspberries and & deliciously favoured maple granola. The meal was superb, and certainly for the sweet tooth’s . It’s also a good option for gluten free and dairy free diners.
We also opted for the ‘frittelle do zucchine’, their grilled fritters, made with zucchini, ricotta, buckwheat, corn & parmesan, topped with poached egg, smashed peas and pea sprouts. This is also a vegetarian and gluten free dish.
Their ‘Carbonara Australiana’ sounds like a pasta, but rather is an outstanding dish with pillowy soft scrambled free range eggs, with pecorino and they are so creamy and delicious.Served atop some toasted sourdough and a generous portion of crispy bacon and a sprinkle of black pepper. We would absolutely order this again.
In addition to our choices, you can always get a healthy breakfast bowl, mushrooms, avo, toasties and they also have a kids menu.
Staff here were super lovely, took our order efficiently, food was served fast and they checked up on how things were going.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this cafe and look forward to returning
Like being in Italy
Fabulous Pasta, Pannini, Authentic Italian Cakes and the best Coffee creating a typical Italian buzz in the place. Ready made takeaway sauces readily available with takeaway meals packaged and ready to go. Even the waiters were chatting to us in Italian to give that brilliant Italian Vibe. A must visit venue that has it all!!!

Love love love this place! Best Italian food and the most incredible “real” Italian fare. Lasagne is to die for and the arancini, pastas, & daily specials are awesome.
Coffee is delicious and the simple Barbetta Toastie is my go to on the run. The staff are so friendly and kind and always great me with a smile and great service.
It’s a venue for friends and family to gather and have a wonderful meal with excellent service

Bellissimo
If you are a coffee lover and thirst for a small slice of Italy then Paddington's Barbetta is a must. Beautiful decor, cosy atmosphere, great staff and service, excellent food (in particular the pasta), gorgeous desserts and of course 10/10 coffee. A great place to meet up with friends and colleagues for either breakfast, brunch or lunch. Located on a side street off Oxford Street, Barbetta is definitely a place to visit. Highly recommended and I would definitely go again :)

Had really high hopes for this place but a
disappointing, unexciting menu combined with greasy looking, poor quality baked goods in the cabinet has put me off returning any time soon
Great coffee and breakky
Visited Barbetta for breakfast, the Super Verde bowl was light and full of flavour and I highly recommend the cured salmon. Staff were attentive and friendly. 10/10 for the coffee!

In a side street of Paddington's Oxford st, a pleasant restaurant/cafe with unobtrusive decor befitting its presentation (with no pretentiousness). Busy atmosphere and if actually well populated, can be rather noisy. Luckily no music. Very good service and excellent food. Mains around $ 25 to $ 35 less if a lighter snack. Wine around $ 50 a bottle and up. Didn't check the loos. Parking difficult but close to bus stop (Oxford st). Would definitely go again.
