When we want good food, alone or with friends or family & for special occasions.
Small, cozy Italian (and more) place to eat. A neighborhood favorite. The food is delicious, portions generous (I have sometimes ordered an appetizer as my main dish) and prices reasonable. We go there for Birthdays & Anniversaries also. It can get a bit noisy on weekends, especially if there's a party, but it's all part of the fun.

Went with friends & family. Sevice was OK, main course served while still eating staters. Food was nothing special. Will not have a return visit.
Be the first to ReplyVery good neighborhood Italian.
A very popular place, apparently -- it was crowded early on a Sunday evening, and only got more crowded as the evening progressed.
Food was very good -- my wife said the zuppa di pesce (which she orders pretty much every time we're in an Italian restaurant) was way better than average. Pork chops were also very good, as was pasta. Service was prompt, if a bit abrupt - waitress kept walking away in the midst of ordering - but staff was very cordial. Dishes were served as they came out of the kitchen, rather than being assembled and delivered together ... this is common in Latin America and Europe, but not so much here ... not a problem, unless you have an issue with watching a table-mate eat while you wait for your food to come out.
In sum, a very good neighborhood Italian - and since it's within walking distance of my daughter's apartment, we will be returning!
Meh....Not impressed
The calamari was all rings, which is indicative of it being pig intestine instead off squid, also soggy as hell. Waitress disappeared for 15 minutes. Steak was good. Sangria was ok. Won't be going back anytime soon.

No reservations but worth the wait. Not fancy but consistent quality. Come early on a Friday or Saturday night. Superb stuffed pork chop.

My partner and I have been going to this restaurant for some time; at least 6 years. Dispite this, they never make it a point to reward loyal customers; at least not these loyal customers. Not even a "thanks for your patronage!" Given that there are a wide range of choices in NY, they don't think customer service is imporant. That said, my partner got violently ill the last time we ate there, so we will not be visiting there again.
Be the first to ReplyNice small Italian restaurant in Riverdale
This is a pleasant, small restaurant with large portions of good food (especially the spaghetti with meatballs) hidden away in a place you won't find without a GPS.
I gave it three stars instead of four because it has a few defects:
- It is very noisy due to all the walls being hard surfaces
- There is loud music playing, which makes the noise worse
- The don't take American Express cards (a nuisance to Delta Skymiles customers)
If these points aren't an issue with you and you are in the neighborhood, it is worth going to.
You better be hungry
Becofino is a small, almost unnoticeable Italian restaurant on Moshulo ave. in Riverdale. They don't take reservations, so you may have to wait. In addition to the regular menu, there are a number of specials that change daily. We ate here a number of times. And every time we had a lot to take home. I think each serving is enough for 2 people. But don't stuff yourself. You'll want to share a dessert with your significant other.

REAL southern Italian food. What I like to call homestyle or peasant Italian food. Very ample portions. Lovely gravy (sauce) and great service.

This is a restaurant where I am a regular. They are very consistent and their food is alway deliclious. I like their special menu. Great selection of choices. Very pleasant, casual but nice ambiance. Friendly staff. Service is good but there is always room for improvement.. I keep going back and recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyBe ready to wait, and wait, and wait some more
We were told it would be 15 minutes, and 40 minutes later we were still waiting on the street. When we finally got in, nobody came over to offer us anything to drink for more than 10 minutes. We got up and left. The word is that this is OK Italian comfort food, but who wants to wait and wait for that?
Be the first to ReplySmall, Crowded, Good Local Place
Small room with tables very close together. No reservations and full up on a Thursday almost from opening. When restaurants like these are crowded like this it usually means that locals know that it is worth visiting and I saw nothing to dispute that.
Server was very good, room was nicely lit and pleasantly appointed
Standard red sauce Italian with nothing special on the menu but the food we had was tasty and well done. Certainly exceeds the quality of most nearby competition. Cannot comment on the wine list as I was with a teetotaler
Worth a try if you are in the area
