I never thought I would ever go through a situation like this. We have been to several countries around the world, including several cities in the United States, and I have never felt as offended as I did today in this restaurant. After paying more than 150 dollars for a burnt paella and a sangria that only had alcohol, especially because I had to ask for honey to sweeten it, we decided not to leave any tip. we paid more than 15% in taxes on the meal. We were already outside waiting for the Uber to the hotel when we were, in a completely ridiculous and absurd way, approached by the employee asking us for a tip. It was even inconvenient to force us to tip. He said we had to tip because he lived in San Francisco and had bills to pay. what?????? We obviously didn't and this type of attitude, whether or not it is in everyday culture, is unacceptable. zero zero but zero elegance and quality. Obviously I won't be back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

We had not been back to Bellota since the Covid restriction days. What a pleasure to sit inside this beautiful space and enjoy absolutely delicious food. The cocktails and tapas were all excellent. The paella was great and more than enough for the 4 of us to share, Our server was terrific. And the sommelier was extremely helpful in advising about the extensive wine list. We're all eager to return for another great meal.

Horrific experience tonight at this place. Service was way below poor. Although it started nicely with a warm welcome, our waiter was highly incompetent and confrontational when asked to bring a hot sauce. Zero tip. Once complained, the manager was aggressive and downright unprofessional. Unacceptable. I felt threatened for my life by him. His name is Mike and he claims to be the wine Director, which is not substantiated by his poor knowledge of wine. Horrific experience, unpleasant food, horrible wine service, and disgusting waiter. Not worth the time or effort to return. I will not return but do the favorite to my fellow community to spread the word about this horrific place. Off to the crocodiles with your incompetent wine server and waiter. Pathetic.

A great experience here all around! We had a drink at the bar before we sat down to dinner. A convivial atmosphere with wonderful live music. We asked the sommelier for help with the wine list and she was wonderful. My husband knows American, French and Italian wines well but we wanted to try a Spanish and she absolutely nailed it! Our waiter was lovely and all of our food was great. The paella looked great and I was quite intrigued with the vegetarian version that the women next to us at the bar ordered but it is a large dish and there were just 2 of us..... we will have to go again sometime with more people! We had the churros for dessert and they were great also. Just a wonderful evening in a warm and happy environment!!!!

Found this restaurant on OpenTable recommendations. Itโs our first night in SF and we planned to play it by ear, so I have to say we got pretty lucky. I was already impressed walking into the restaurant by the decor and the space itself. They had a huge open kitchen with the jamon hanging and displaying a huge paella pan. They donโt do a big menu, but itโs really hard to decide between the items, because everything looked so good. Starting from our manchego cheese and Bellota plate, the dinner was nothing less than impressive. We had 3 tapas plates (pork belly, beef short rib, prawns) all something to write home about.and since it was our first visit, we had to do the classic Valenciana paella (chicken confit, shrimp + chorizo). Finished off with the churros, that leche sauce deserves to be sold as a take home item. Overall great service and amazing food. Oh! And the sangria wasnโt too bad either!

Excellent food. Casual, fun atmosphere. If you enjoy Spanish food, try Bellota. My favorite dish was the pork belly--really terrific. They were very good at accommodating food allergies and have gluten free items on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyVery overpriced
Sure, all tapas and paellas we tried were delicious, but there is no justification to the prices here. Tapas are on the order of $15 and you will definitely need a few of them. Paellas are around $45 and for that you just get mostly rice with very little meat. Ambiance is fun (if not loud), but the decor is very generic - it could have been a sushi restaurant or a steakhouse just as well, nothing "Spanish" really.
Be the first to ReplyNOT WORTH IT
The only good thing about Bellota is the decor.
Tapas had limited choices, incredible small servings.
Paella overcooked and burnt to the skillet.
Service average.
Way way overpriced.
Too much hype
This is a very large in size restaurant with life music on Fridays. However, they mostly offer very small in size tapas and paellas . The food is primarily Spanish style but extremely overpriced fir what you getting . The wine list is extensive
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Decor, Tapas better than the Paella
From the moment that I walked into this restaurant, I was in love with the decor and loved that they carried the theme throughout the space with different materials and textures (and the design on the menus). Soft lighting and hard surfaces with the clean, open, kitchen, I just thought it was all so pretty. I expected the portions to be bigger than they were for the prices of everything. Had a great prickly pear tequila cocktail (pink) and had an Albarino white and loved it. Sommelier made the experience feel special. Waitress was very dry, no personality, but very efficient. We ordered a bunch of tapas to start. Enjoyed everything we ordered (octopus, patatas bravas, meatballs, heirloom tomatoes, charcuterie, gambas (shrimp). Paella was just OK, not sure what I didn't love about it. The churros were outstanding to end the meal. Was a business dinner that someone else paid for, but I likely would have been bothered by the prices if I was paying for it myself. Live music was a little loud but we were sitting right next to them. Would definitely return next time I'm in San Fran.

We booked Bellota to celebrate my birthday. Having lived in Spain, we love a good paella. Unfortunately we didnโt find one here. Ours did have the crispy rice at the bottom of the pallera, however it was burnt and dry.
The restaurant space is beautiful, however with all the hard surfaces itโs extremely noisy. To make matters worse, part way through the meal, they stared blasting Mexican music. Really? Spain guys. In Europe. Different continent, different culture, different cuisine and different music.
The rice pudding lacked dimension. We wanted to add cinnamon or raisins, and the chocolate Jerez mouse was has an unappealing, overly sweet marshmallow layer.
Service was ok, though the waiter tended to ignore my husband and the prices are high. I wonโt go back.
The worst spanish food, the worst wine list
My recommendation? Never try this restaurant!!! So bad food, very bad wine list and so expensive with unknown spanish wines ...
Trendy Tapas - cool space
Best part of the night were the gin & tonics... choose your gin and your tonic from a long list and bartender adds botanicals and serves a delicious drink. Tapas were mediocre and overpriced for very small potions. Wine list was just ok - maybe we made poor choices. Paellas were rice-centric and filling, but undistinguished - one was charred on the bottom. Churro dessert was yummy. Very noisy - had to play musical chairs at our table of 6 to carry on conversations.
Lively bar scene with a Spanish band on Friday.
All in all - hard to recommend.
