This was one of Director John Hughes' favorite restaurants
This was one of Director John Hughes' favorite restaurants in Manhattan. He passed away outside heading West on 55th st. I wonder if anyone who works here remembers that? Anyway, the food is awesome and it is beautiful inside and out.

5 stars. Came in for lunch with coworkers to quiet venue with a very attentive friendly staff. The food was excellent and all about the presentation. At the table, we had a croque-monsieur, duck, chicken and pasta of the day. Everything was delicious. No body finished their meal and could have definitely brought home leftovers. One negative was that we had ordered the framage but it came out after some of our food did and no one touched any of it. Another small complaint was that the non-alcoholic drink menu wasn't presented with the regular drink menu and we had to ask for that separately. BTW, the non-mocktails were fantastic and I highly recommend everyone give those a try.

I stopped by on a whim intending for a quick bite and pleasantly enjoyed four excellent courses. Great foods, drinks, and service.
Be the first to ReplyPerfection in a French bistro in midtown.
Ambiance: a lovely mixture of traditional and contemporary. The food: impeccable. Service: attentive but unobtrusive. The Tarte Flambée was flaky and flavorful. The Quenelles de brochet with sauce Nantua perfectly done. My wife enjoyed her Poulet rôti, moist and tasty. Dessert was the Traditional vanilla millefeuille, a delicate layered delight. All in all an enjoyable dinner.

Our first time visiting and we had excellent food and good excellent service. We had the octopus appetizer, then chicken, steak and duck for mains. The wine recommended was excellent and the small cheese puffs that they place on the tables were delicious. They asked us if we were going to a show afterwards and we're conscientious about getting us our food and bill in a timely fashion.

Delicious food with an exquisite service. Don't miss the crème brûlée!!!

Benoit continues its tradition of great food and amazing service. If you love French cuisine, there's no place better in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyMy first time dining solo and I enjoyed it very much.
Complimentary cheese puffs make you smile and start your appetite. I ordered the Mushroom soup, which contains mushrooms pureed, with wild mushrooms, a poached egg, and hazelnuts (i asked for no hazelnut). I enjoyed the delicious hearty soup. paired with Fleurie Les Marrans a fruit-forward wine. I concluded my meal with one scoop of lemon/mint sorbet. I will return again and I will be sure to take photos next time. I enjoyed the meal that much.

Disappointing and was hoping for much better for a birthday celebraion. Nothing special about preparation or taste. More like you might find in a brasserie or bistro. The onion soup was salty. Everything else was seriously bland. We were a party of six.. Long wait for drinks and courses. Filled up on the crispy bread which was very good. Finally I was hoping for redemption with the desserts. It was not to be.

Really enjoyed the food as well as did the members of our group of 6. I poultry reti. The sauce around the chicken was very good. It could have used a little more sauce. My grandson got the liver and he has never had liver before and he ate it all. My niece got the snails that she enjoyed them and the filet was phenomenal. We had the chocolate soufflé a perfect finish to the meal.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was okay (not bad not too good).
But I felt being discriminated against at this place. My friends and I were speaking in our native language. The staff there assumed we were foreigners on vacation while we both work and live in New York and has been living around the area for quite a long time. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

Overdue review of visit ~1 year agoFood (1/2): Had foie gras terrine (w/ truffle, brioche, and red onion), shrimp ceviche, escargot, and cassoulet. The foie gras was great--an interesting take with the red onion as it cuts through the creamy richness of the foie gras. Brioche was incredibly crispy and crunchy yet soft and light once in your mouth. Shrimp ceviche was also great and refreshing. Escargot was very standard--a bit too much on the parsley, causing it to taste a bit too bitter. The cassoulet was humongous in portion. It was very filling, creamy, and hearty. However, a big deterrent for me was the extreme saltiness of the dish, especially the pork belly. I was unable to eat them without forcing myself due to how salty it was.Service/wait-time/cleanliness (2/2): Service was great, timely, and cleanliness was impeccable. Price (0.5/1): As a whole, I think it was decent, but I was just incredibly disappointed at how salty the cassoulet was and I had expected so much more out of them.
Be the first to Reply3 stars cuz cassoulet is great.
Had duck second time and was bland and boring. Service stunk. Got my meal 15 mins after everyone. No apologies. Im ok with mishaps but you need to acknowledge. Me and bro ordered drinks for desert that never came. Went with my mom early everything was great seems like they cant handle busy rush

We stopped by Benoit , at 6 PM, hoping to have some appetizers and a glass of wine before the theatre. We were greeted by a pleasant hostess who had a lengthy discussion with a man who was possibly the dining room manager and who did not acknowledge us. The dining room was quite empty. After a while, the hostess informed us that they had no tables and were completely booked by 7:15 PM. No apologies or offer of a table at the bar/lounge. We informed her that we would have had to leave by 7:15 to get to make our curtain. They did not bother to offer us a table. We are New Yorkers are in the area frequently. Based on this experience we're unlikely to return.
Be the first to ReplyLovely girls night out at Benoit Bistro.
Excellent food, cocktails, wine and service. The beef tartare was amazing! Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection. We had a split table on the accompanying peppercorn sauce. Also can't go wrong with the hazelnut soufflé for dessert.

Service here was wonderful and attentive, especially on a busy night like Valentine's. The meat was cooked disappointingly for a "medium rare" chef's choice. Ours initially showed up overcooked and dried out, which was quickly replaced by a more palatable well done veal. Still not the medium rare, not even close to medium, but wasn't going to send it back a second time though I really wanted to for the price of $110 per person. The rest of the meal was delightful, though the "soup" was a little bland and unusual. The wine was a fantastic pairing, we loved it a lot with our meal; the wait staff was great at making sure our glasses were always full. They were helpful, courteous, and never overwhelmingly present.
Be the first to ReplyWent for a romantic dinner with my SO.
Did not disappoint! They had a sommelier available to help with wine questions and the menu was very classic French - we got escargots and steak. So delicious! Everything from the silverware to the butter and bread and the attentive service tells you this place is a wonderful visit. Decor and atmosphere is a plus! Go splurge, it's worth it!
Be the first to ReplyLoved it.
Service, food, atmosphere Worth it and they take reservations. Looking forward to trying more next time. Cheers
Be the first to ReplyWe discovered this place during the 2019 Cassoulet Wars
We discovered this place during the 2019 Cassoulet Wars when their cassoulet won a prize. That's the main reason we decided to try it out after a MOMA outing one Saturday. The cassoulet was pure joy, as was the filet mignon, the tartar and my cocktail, Around the Clock (spicy!!). Every time we have cassoulet in other places in NYC it's been disappointing -- almost ketchupy. Not so here. Perfect profiteroles, too. Probably won't go back for a while because it's pricey ($216 for 3) but the next time we get a hankering for cassoulet this will be our top choice outside of southern France. And I may stop in for an Around the Clock next time I visit the museum.

I'll give it 5 stars for service...they are very friendly and attentive. They offer advice, recommend without being offensive or condescending. Overall, a very classic French feel restaurant like you are in Paris. The escargot is fantastic; not at all overly oily or greasy...they make it just right. The clams on a half shell-perfectly done with the right vinegar based accompaniment. The only thing that was not bad at all, but just ok, was the foie gras. Of not for this, I would rate 5 stars.Next time we will try for dinner. Looking forward to it.

Came here for dessert and was not disappointed!! We got the profiteroles and apple tart au tatine; each were delicious. Staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. Ambiance was lovely.

Truly outstanding service! As a new englander, I feel confident that I have had great cod. This restaurant was humbling, as this white fish was done perfectly with the flavor of the fish being dominant. We started at the small bar and were treated to bartenders that know their wines and liqueurs perfectly. Moving into the restaurant, the staff were congenial and courteous and yet very friendly as they offered their tidbits on France and what makes this place special.Don't miss this place in your next visit. You'll miss something special.

Went to this place as a birthday celebration and the food was excellent!! I got the striped bass and it was honestly probably one of the top five best dishes I've ever had. The rest of the food and drinks we got were also very delicious. The atmosphere was great and the staff was helpful and very friendly. Very happy I decided this as the place for the celebration!
