New Years Dinner Disappointment
I'm from London UK and was with a group of family and friends at this fine dining restaurant. It was sold as a five course meal with Cirque entertainment . My generous cousin paid for the event and was under the impression the entertainment was exclusively for our side of the restaurant as the establishment is divided into two with a door which is supposed to council out the noise from the other side which I'll get back to . The food was gorgeous and everyone enjoyed the menu so if we were to review the food alone it would have been 5 stars but why it fell so poorly Is because the service was so bad it nearly caused someone at our table into trauma. We were asked initially for our dietary requirements . I mentioned I was lactose intolerant and Mr. H of our party mentioned he was allergic to alcohol which wasn't a problem according to the waiter as none of the food had alcohol. Mr. H asked for sparkling water with pineapple and cranberry juice , the rest of the party had alcoholic drinks ....when the drinks arrived Mr.H smelt his glass and thought his non alcoholic drink didnt smell right and asked his wife to sip it. The bar had given him sparkling wine had made a mistake and apologised. Half way through our meal and entertainment we ordered a second round of drinks and the same thing happened with the drinks but this time because Mr. H's wife had had a glass of wine and her taste buds couldn't tell if her husband's glass of sparkling water/pineapple/cranberry was anything other than what he ordered. We also didn't believe the bar could get this wrong twice. They had served him sparkling wine a second time. Mr.H has been in sobriety for 24 years and had to embarrassingly spit his first sip of alcohol into a glass after the realisation they had got the order wrong a second time. Despite the bar server apologising and saying it was because of the dim lighting for the show and he could only read sparkling and that it was no excuse and he would compensate us in what ever way we required ,our night was gravely tainted by this massive mistake. One other less traumatic event happened when served a dietary requirement ,a bowl was set in front of us and the waiter said 'duty free' we asked him several times and his thick Indian accent defiantly said duty free which five of us heard. He meant to say diary free which was my dietary requirement but after more investigation it was the meat free option for another member of our party . We appreciate this may be one of Berber's busiest Times of the year but mistakes like this should not be made. The rest of the meal and courses and entertainment were fine . We were all given a glass of Prosecco to toast the new year which Mr.H's glass was taken by his wife . Im a entertainer by trade and was aghast that at the stroke of midnight the entertainment which went from our side of the room to the other side was now behind us, BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS', so the count down to midnight and popping of balloons could be heard and not seen despite us paying for the the five course event and the other side getting the 3 course meal. We felt gravely cheated and I'd travelled all the way from London for the most lack lustre new year in my 57 years of existence.

A fabulous experience - from the service to the ambience and of course the food & wine. Berber is a must for anyone in SF. The flavors of each dish are unique and delectable. We chose the chef’s menu with the wine pairing which was wonderfully created. The chef’s four course menu was the perfect way to try each type of dish and experience the flavors Berber has to offer. Each staff member was kind and helpful. 11/10 recommend, especially for a special occasion!
Be the first to ReplySoooo delicious
Amazing maroccain kitchen! Sooooo delicious 😍😍😍 I came once for dinner and I was sooo amazed that I decided to come for a breakfast as well
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed
Celebrating my niece’s 50th birthday at this place. The reservation was for 7 and they asked not to be late. We booked dinner and a show which is done in a back room. The room was overcrowded and could be violating fire code…We arrived a few minutes early to comply with their request. First sign is we had to wait in the bar area while they finished getting the room ready…. We were seated at about 715 or so.. A waiter poured water and the entertainers were kind enough to stop by and introduce themselves; wish my niece happy birthday… There was a violinist playing exquisite music which kept us entertained… The waiter Wolfgang took orders. It appeared he was the only person taking orders as he went around the room to every table in our view..Our drinks took a long time to come. The musician continued to play…The wait time between our drinks and some bread was interminable as most of us hadn’t eaten. The first course was lentil soup; lukewarm lentil soup…This is a Moroccan restaurants so I was expecting much more flavor…There was no salt, pepper or local spices to add to the food…The trapeze artist was very good…After her performance it took another 15 minutes or so to be served the main course. I had chosen the vegetarian option. Surprise…It was a plate of lentils with half cooked cauliflower.. again lukewarm. The time between courses was so long I was no longer hungry when Wolfgang; who in between serving us, also set up the props for the show… The dancer was next, she was also very good… After her performance I excused myself and left…I had an early start but would have stayed for better food. I left at 930PM. So in 2 1/2 hours of dinner and a show I got lukewarm lentil soup and lukewarm lentils for my main course…for $140.00 plus another $17 for a glass of wine.. The show in itself was good but intermittent and long wait…The food was substandard…I do not recommend this place to anyone…
Be the first to ReplyExquisite Moroccan Food & Experience!
We had a great time at Berber at a rain-kissed Sunday morning, as the Spring equinox unfurled its vibrant hues, and the Iranian cultures celebrate Nowruz, their New Year. We are certainly happy about our venture into the heart of San Francisco to try a Moroccan-inspired fusion brunch, resisting the temptation to stay snug and warm in our cozy homes. We were so glad we didn't give in to the call of laziness. The delightful venue we chose bustled with life, its popularity evident in the throngs of patrons lining up at the entrance. We were certainly lucky that our seat was reserved! Berber's Persian New Year High Tea offers an extravagant nine-course menu, featuring everything from refreshing salads and sumptuous cheese plates to delectable main courses and heavenly desserts. We sipped fragrant tea in harmony with each course, the aroma and flavors blending beautifully with mint and rose water. We both particularly loved in the fusion Benedict dubbed the 'Moroccan Hash.’ The pièce de résistance, however, was the Medjool Date Cake, a confection that managed to captivate even my usually date-averse palate. As our meal came to a close, we were graced to meet Berber, the owner, who shared his inspiring journey from Africa to founding his own business, and eventually achieving the coveted Michelin star. As an immigrant myself, his story touched my heart, reminding me of the resilience and perseverance that define our shared experience. Berber's dedication to evoking the essence of home resonated deeply with us, as he expertly wove his cultural heritage into the very fabric of the dining experience. The mesmerizing performances that unfolded before us created an atmosphere that transported us to a world beyond our own, making our Sunday morning adventure all the more unforgettable. We highly recommend checking out Berber if you are new to SF! And you should certainly check out their dinner shows! Every night is different with their chef-curated experiences, too!
Be the first to ReplyBERBER WOULD NOT CANCEL MY RESERVATION AFTER MY FRIEND GOT HIT BY A CAR.
BERBER STILL CHARGED MY FRIEND'S CREDIT CARD $800+ DOLLARS WHEN I TRIED CANCELLING BECAUSE A MEMBER OF MY FIANCE'S GROOM'S PARTY GOT HIT BY A CAR IN SF. I wanted this review to get some attention due to the severity and lack of empathy in regards to the situation. Please continue to read for more details of this review. I am getting married in 2 weeks and chose to have my bachelorette in SF since I spent many years in this city, some of my closest friends from here. I was finishing up a wonderful spa session in Japantown when I received a call from my fiancé that his Best Woman had been hit by a car. My fiancé being from the Bay Area, it was natural for us to have a joint bachelor-bachelorette trip - separate activities in the day time and both parties coming together for a dinner celebration at Berber, reservations made awhile ago. We obviously couldn't continue the night knowing a member of our party was injured and taken to the hospital so we called Berber to cancel, explaining what had happened. I was not on the phone when the restaurant told us they had "a strict cancellation policy" and charged my friend's credit card WITHOUT HER AUTHORIZATION. I wondered to what degree their "strict cancellation policy" would be lifted from a similar situation? Did someone have to die? Did someone have to sustain a gunshot wound? Both scenarios are possible in a city like San Francisco. I do not recommend a restaurant like Berber who handled this situation so POORLY with no empathy. If they needed to see proof, we would've provided evidence like photos from the almost hit & run, Best Woman on the ground injured as pedestrians nearby rushed to the scene and were so helpful in calling the cops, ambulance and taking photos of the car who hit my friend, hospital visit documents - but NO, they simply turned their noses up and with their snobbish response, immediately charged the credit card moments after we got off the phone with them.
Be the first to ReplyHigh Tea bar very Low
Purchased High Tea tickets for 2. Expecting a high tea with 4 options and a laid out menu, as described on their website and social media marketing. As a Tea lover, i was excited to experience the 4 teas mentioned in conjunction with spread of food, for a 9:30 tea. We arrived 15 minutes early and was told they did not open for another 15 minutes. 1st red flag. Then we we sat in a beautiful, restaurant where our server was prompt in asking us our main course preferences, and poured their Moroccan mint tea. 2nd red flag. As the appetizers were brought to the table there was no explanation of tea offerings. Just more Mint tea poured as we continued to eat. when we finally asked for the Marsal Chai that was advertised as part of the selection our server returned to tell us they only had the mint and the crème brule tea to offer - being only two of the 4 mentioned being available for the event. To be honest, while the atmosphere was wonder, the belly dancer a nice addition that we were not expecting, the High Tea promised hit a very low bar. We were disappointed at the lack of clarity, the expectation was set for High Tee event with Food. Not a basic brunch .
Be the first to ReplyHalloween BONEJOUR!
Absolutely loved the halloween bonejour brunch this past weekend! The caricature artist was incredible, absolutely worth the price. The food selection was top notch, for puppies and humans....10/10 would recommend!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food & drink - a fabulous evening out
Booked the 4 course dinner & performance experience and the wine pairing. The food was excellent, our server was friendly and knowledgeable and the performances were mesmerizing. One of the highlights of our time in San Fran!
Be the first to ReplyGreat theater with mediocre food
The theater dining experience here is fantastic. The whirling dancers, mystical acrobats, and talented musicians put on quite a show. I also love how the venue is super intimate. There are only a handful of tables surrounding a circular stage. You literally feel part of the show.
The reason why this is just four stars not five is because the food itself was a bit subbar. For instance, the chicken in my tagine was dry and pretty hard to eat.
Girls Night Out
Came in for a girls night out to celebrate my friends birthday and what a blast!!! We sat in the backroom for the dinner show and the performances were just incredible and so intimate. The performers even come say hello when you first come in. The food was also great, very unique! Next time I’ll be bringing my husband for a date night!
Be the first to ReplyUniquely wonderful
We visited to see the dinner show which did not disappoint! I wasn’t sure how I would like the food as I wasn’t very familiar with some of the dinner choices. I ended up loving all the unique flavors and the different courses of food served with the dinner show. The cocktails were also wonderful and paired well with the food. We have recommended Berber to several friends and they have also given the food, show and overall experience rave reviews!!
Be the first to ReplyTrop Chere Mon Frere
Good and interesting food, but way too expensive I thought. Place was almost empty - could there be a connection? Yah, $10 for a little piece of baklava.
Be the first to Replydinner at Berber
Celebrated my partners birthday a month and a half ago. The food and ambience was good but please be aware of hidden costs (and unfair charges) when paying bill that makes you feel short-changed.We were charged a large party of 10 people when only 6 of us were there, and three were under 17. They also charged us for a cake we bought(but never mentioned they would when I called to ask if that was ok). Its impossible to get a hold of someone to refund you! We were billed $150 extra for nothing and when I kept writing back I got one mail saying I they would venmo me but never did and stopped responding to my mails(ive written at leat five times!). Very disappointing customer service for a restaurant like this.
Be the first to ReplyFun Restaurant Experience
My daughter and I enjoyed Berber for dinner last night. I wish we would've known about the dinner show, but we'll have to try it next time. Loved the ambiance, the music, the exotic host, and the food! The bread was to die for! The roasted carrots and couscous really good! I would recommend that the restaurant come up with more vegetarian dishes. And, of course, the baklava was the perfect ending!
Be the first to ReplyVery good food. Expensive and noisy.
The food was at times wonderful and certainly fun to choose and eat, from the drinks, to appetizers, to main dishes and desserts. (Though I probably wouldn't buy another $10 baklava; NO baklava is worth $10 and this was no exception to that.)
The branzino was quite yummy, but the winner for the evening was definitely the lamb tagine. Drinks were interesting, some unusual, and quite tasty. Dinner for four, including drinks, a few appetizers, four main courses, a bottle of wine (outside price around $45, in restaurant $80 - not surprising), and a few desserts: $400.
This restaurant is very noisy. It was very hard to hear people at our table. And if you sit in the middle of the restaurant, on what might be described as benches, you have another issue. The people in the chairs who are facing the people at your table on the benches, cannot see the people on the benches because the chairs are low, so the line of sight means you are looking up at them, directly into the bar lights behind. So: do NOT sit on the benches/chairs on the east side of the main room. You don't want the people on chairs to be facing the bar or they will not be able to see the others at their own table.
Great Friday night Entertainment!
We were on a spontaneous weekend trip to San Fran and wanted to be sure and try out something new each day. Berber was our first experience at a supper club and morrocan food. They did not disappoint with both!!!
The food was spot on. The entire prix fixe menu was delicious from start to finish. I found it very impressive that the food came out together for each table (about 60 people in the room).
The entertainment - 4 different talents were all amazing! Truly talented and they all came out before the show and said hello to everyone in the crowd.
Definitely will be back!
Amazing experience!!
Berber was fantastic!! We had the best time. The ambiance was amazing and the food was spectacular. They had a very eclectic mix of drinks, I have never tried a cocktail with saffron before I came to Berber. I highly recommend booking the dinner show, the performances were out of this world, this is a one of a kind restaurant in San Francisco. If you’re looking for an intimate experience, a first date, or a night out with couples, this is a great place to go!
