WOW! WOW! WOW! I knew the reviews were great, but WOW!
WOW! WOW! WOW! I knew the reviews were great, but WOW! Berber provides a total experience that is simply on another level. From the comfortable seating, helpful and attentive staff, soft and glamorous ambiance, and of course THE FOOD! I am a huge experience/experiential diner and love a great themed and/or immersive experience -- especially with dinner, drinks, or activities and Berber did NOT disappoint. We booked tickets online through their site, pretty straightforward and simple. We could also see the menu and mention any dietary concerns. They called us to confirm the day of or perhaps the day before which also allowed us to confirm dietary concerns. The day of the show, we arrived and saw a line outside where we waited only a few minutes before confirming our reservations and being escorted inside to our seats. Our show was in the back of the restaurant, but they also seemed to have live performances happening in the front, as well. We didn't realize there were separate experiences until we arrived (PRO TIP : verify where your show will be, the back was more immersive as folks are walking in through the front.) The decor, bar, and seating layout all contributed to the overall ambiance which we loved. Among what we loved most was that there were flavors and dishes that we weren't familiar with and still, they were truly delicious and flavorful. I'm pescatarian / vegetarian and they had plenty of flavorful options for me! We sat down and received: - welcome olives, - ordered delicious cocktails (Gypsy Love was wonderful!) - dips & bread, - butternut squash soup, - salad, - brussel sprouts, - veggie bastilla (for me) - lamb tagine (for my meat eating friend) - baklava & gelato, - hot tea The food came at a comfortable pace and the staff was calmly and consistently moving around. After dinner and after two of the shows, there was a brief intermission where I was able to purchase some gorgeous Henna art from one of the beautiful performers. This was absolutely worth the $100 prefix menu, especially with the 4 live performances. Such a unique experience! It was truly my top 5 favorite places in San Francisco, but sadly, I've realized they are slated to close soon. This is heartbreaking news, but prayerfully the owners are able to find another way to provide this or a similar offer at a later time.
Be the first to ReplyI made a reservation with weeks advance for a Moroccan
I made a reservation with weeks advance for a Moroccan breakfast / tea event. I move Morocco, Moroccan food and teas. I was super excited. One day before, i received a cancellation in my inbox with NO explanation ! They are in the process of refunding me apparently except that my plans for my friends birthday was tomorrow ! I called them on the main line and dialed EVERY extension, that is 5 to be exact, and each one of them had a full mailbox ! No one ever picked up. This has been extremely disappointing and i don't think i will ever try them! I find it extremely unprofessional to cancel without even a call or an email explaining. To add insult to injury, online, you can be wait listed for that same event. I think that they just overbooked it and were careless about the results.

the food is horrible I had purchased the set menu for the Flamenco show and the view and service sucked. This was the view the entire time and we spend over $400 dollars

The staff and the entertainers were fantastic! I definitely want to come back just for the beautiful intimate ambiance and the lovely performance. I went here for Valentine's Day and the wine pairing was phenomenal. The food was okay though, I wish it had more flavor.

Dinner & a show?? YES PLEASE!! We chose Berber to celebrate our 6th anniversary & we were not disappointed!! PARKING: --------------- As is the case with any restaurant in SF, parking is a challenge. They do not offer valet so please arrive early so you have time to find parking. AMBIANCE: ------------------ Definitely upscale & classy!! While they do Ala Carte dinner I highly recommend booking a show since its an experience you will not want to miss. I booked the VIP seating for the show since it was a special ocassion & I wanted the food to be included. I realized later that you can just book the show & order dinner from the table. While this would work out to be cheaper the only flip side would be that you would probably get seating towards the back which honestly isn't the worst IMO. I booked the VOGUE show which is different from the other evenings when they have traditional dancers. Nevertheless, it was a fun evening & who doesn't love a good drag show!! We carried change so we could tip the dancers. FOOD: ----------- I was skeptical about this since I thought all the focus would probably be on the show & the food would probably be an afterthought. That was not the case at all. The food was really good!! We also did the cocktail pairing which was an additional $50. We got 4 cocktails for this price & the last 2 cocktails were probably a little diluted but tasted good. Some of the items for which I took pictures are mentioned below: Braised Lamb Shank: Divine!! The lamb was cooked to perfection & the portion size is more than generous. Can be easily shared by 2 people. Saffron chicken: This was okay. A little bland for my taste. Can be easily shared by 2 people. Chocolate mousse: Loved it! This came with a side of sorbet which I didn't care for but the mousse was great!! The staff helped us take some amazing photos & overall we had a great evening. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is due to the alcohol situation. But I would go back to Berber....it was a memorable evening.

My bf surprised me with dinner and a show for a pre-Valentine's day celebration. I thought, GREAT! This should be FUN! When we stepped inside, it was really dark. They had us sit at the bar before the show and I could barely see the drink menu! Instead of straining my eyes, we decided to wait for dinner since we had 1 wine pairing included. We were ushered to the performance/dining area and once seated, my bf asked about the wine pairing. The waiter thought we wanted 2 wine pairings and started us off with a glass of white wine. I asked about the Yelp check-in to get a free cocktail with entree and he said yes, I could have that and would come back around when I had the app up. Well, he didn't come back, but instead I was served by another guy, a wine pairing and had us pay for it later. I had no clue what I was getting. I guess it was my fault for not asking. They started us off with BREAD AND DIP which was the best part of the meal, IMO. I enjoyed the different dips which were flavorful and seasoned well. Though they don't give you much bread to finish the dip. (5/5) This came with RED LENTIL SOUP. That was good, though I noticed the food was just warm and not hot. (4/5) The white wine tasted really tart when we first drank it. It wasn't aerated enough or it wasn't to my liking, though it was supposed to be French wine. (2/5) Next was the main course which was LAMB TAGINE. The meat was a bit lean but the sauce was flavorful. That too was just warm. Nothing was piping hot. (3/5) With the lamb, we were given a smokey Cabernet wine. (3/5). BERBER COUSCOUS was good but again, not hot. I enjoyed the sweet carrots in the couscous. (3.5/5) For dessert, the menu said it was a CHOCOLATE CRUNCH CAKE. It was a rich chocolate crunch mousse. Very decadent! . I'm not into rich desserts. I'd rather have something fruity or less heavy at the end of my meal. (3.5/5) This came with a dessert wine that tasted like roses. It was sweet and floral but the chocolate overpowered the wine and made the wine taste almost bland. I think the wine would have tasted better alone. (4/5) We had a 3 course meal which was supposed to be $85/per person. Wine pairing was another $35/per person. The total bill came out to $272 (with an added $14 for SF mandate then 20% service charge, another $48 and tax). We didn't expect the bill to be that much but they added the service charge. My bf even got a discount of $140 for going through an app. It would have been over $400. Although it was a nice show and a different experience, I don't think it's worth $200 a person. There were about 3 performances, not including the drummer. Two were belly dancers and the last performance was a trapeze artist. The food didn't shine. The show wasn't extraordinary. So I guess I understand why they're closing their doors in March.

What a fantastic evening we had at Berber last Friday night! We had a reservation for the twilight dinner experience. It was a flavorful 4 course meal with 3 entertainment acts in addition to the violin player. My dietary preference isn't meat so while my husband enjoyed the lamb, I had the sea bass. It was EXCELLENT! Very saddened to learn they are closing their doors in March. Go now before it's too late and you miss out.
Be the first to ReplyUpsides: decent show, good drinks, good ambiance
Upsides: decent show, good drinks, good ambiance Downsides: a thoughtless menu, poor service, price point 7:30 reservation, sat at one of the center tables, no one saw us for 25-30 minutes for drinks and we had to ask a waiter walking by for help getting them. He seemed apologetic but 2/4 "courses" had been served by the time we actually GOT the drinks. I put "courses" in quotations because if you want to call bread a course, be my guest but don't charge $100 a person. The audacity to offer a pre fixed menu just to serve bread, a soup and a SHARED SIDE SALAD as three of the courses is beyond me. That being said, the lamb was quite good but absolutely nothing special. The drinks that we got were the Bedouin and the Moroccan 75, both of which were great drinks and I would call the Bedouin a special drink. The show was fun and the performers were talented but unfortunately it did not make up for the menu that seemed like a school project that was put off until the last minute. Berber was truly a disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyI tried out this place and was honestly very surprised.
I thought I would be disappointed and that it would be overhyped, and though it is pricey, it definitely does give that Michelin star ambiance and vibe. The food was good a flavorful, I didn't really think anything really stood out and made it very different from other great places I have had food though. I will say that their meats were cooked to perfection which is very hard to find as most places overcook and it's dry, but here it was juicy and flavorful. I also loved the pickled onions and the spreads. The bread was also by far some of the best bread I have had. The staff were beyond nice and attentive, service 10/10
Be the first to ReplyBerber was wonderful! Loved the live show.
The artists are SO talented. Went to the dinner show with a few friends and we had a great time. Food was tasty and good portions. We were practically full by the time the entrees rolled around. The servers were attentive and professional. The space is intimate and so perfect for a date night or night out with friends. The performers really do make it special. Oh and I got henna! Will definitely be returning and highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyBerber is a great option for any occasion.
We really enjoyed our food, especially to start, the trio dips and my favorite main was the lamb tagine. Although not pictured the cocktails were also very good! The service was lacking though, the waitress was very pushy and was not patient at all when we just needed a couple more minutes to make our decision. I personally love when the food is served and the server also presents the food with its description, and that is exactly what the other server did for us. He was much more polite and enthusiastic about the food. I'd love to come back next time to see the perform and dine as well. Looking forward to the next meal here!

Our experience at Berber was phenomenal! The food, and cocktails were amazing along with the performances. Great ambiance. The staff at Berber was great, especially Mica. She took care of us from beginning to end and made my wife's birthday celebration very special. Our party of ten all enjoyed and had a great time. I highly recommend Berber for any occasion.

***Updated Review***This is for the Moroccan High Tea Brunch on 3.12.23. After having a terrible time at the first high tea, Micaela (the lovely programs manager at Berber) invited me and a guest back to experience the event again, since they promised to have made changes to the service. Cons- the tables were all dirty/sticky/had visible food remnants on them, even though we had the 10am slot for brunch, which is the first of the day- the menu given to us did not list the teas we would be drinking, and the waiters who poured the tea did not always inform us which tea they were serving- the waiters don't have assigned tables? We gave our order and then immediately someone else came up to take our order. I'm unsure of the organizational process here, but the service was lacking- ^in addition, the tables around us had their orders consistently messed up--which is pretty crazy considering it's a set menu with only one of TWO entree options- the flatbread brought out was missing the almond butter and honey; we had to flag someone down to request it- according to my sister, the lamb hash was way too salty and there was a pool of fat/oil at the bottom- though my table had food brought out quickly, it's clear that was only because I was invited back after my review. The table next to mine didn't get their first plate of food until 40 minutes after they sat downPros- the shakshouka option on the menu does mention the sausage accompaniment now- everyone got a free (non-alcoholic) drink from Beaux, which was too sweet for me, but great once I diluted it with water- my table had the food brought out near immediately, and all the dishes were hot/warm this time- overall, the food quality was better! Desserts were nice (though the fruit soup was very heavy on the rose or orange blossom water)- we did get to try all the teas and when someone promised to come back with more tea, they delivered! Cups were full throughout the mealThey did make changes and the experience was definitely better than last time, but I think Berber has a long way to go. The food alone would have been 3.5 stars, but everything else still makes for a lackluster brunch.

My group went here on a work dinner, and I thought overall, it was so-so. Throughout the meal, we overheard noise coming from what we assume was the live show, so maybe if we had opted for the full experience, it would have been a better, more fun dinner. The food was all right - I got the lamb tagine and maybe got a little too hyped up after reading other reviews about it (it was all right, a little bland imo, but not bad). The drinks are definitely interesting - I got a za'atar breeze mocktail spiced with za'atar around the rim. For the novelty, it was good, but I likely wouldn't get that drink again. If you're looking for interesting new drinks, this would be the place though. Service was also fine, but we had to flag our server down a few times in order to get the check, order food, etc.Overall ok! I feel like we might not have gotten the proper experience, so I'd only come back if we see the performance too.

Paid over $400 for tickets to Valentine's day show and dinner. Waited in the freezing cold over an hour. They were running over an hour behind schedule. At the end of the show, I was then charged another $300 for mandatory gratuity and "ADDITIONAL FEES".I was never made aware of this beforehand. It was freezing inside. The food was good but not worth $700. Neither drinks nor tea were included in the price. A five course Moroccan with no tea? I'm Moroccan, it's sac-religious. I do not drink, so a soda wouldn't have killed them. Nor was the show worth the $700. Skip this place. They will rip you off.
Be the first to ReplyWe were a party of 6.
They initially said we can choose either from the pre fixed menu or a la carte and gave us the full menu. We didn't like the pre-fix menu options and decided on our a la carte order. However, when we were placing the order they said we can only do pre fixed menu since we were a party of 6 and refused to take our a la carte order that we had already decided on. When we said the person who sat us down told us we can do either - they were very rude, did not accept their mistake in miscommunicating, and she said what she meant was we can all order the pre fix menu and then order a la carte on top of it additionally if we want (she had not initially not said any of this, and it made no sense in my opinion). Since we didn't like the options in the pre fix menu (and it was $105 before tax and tips per person) and they continued to be rude and non accommodating to us (they could have very easily allowed us to order a la carte at this point since there had been miscommunication from their end, and parties of less than 6 were allowed to order a la carte)- we decided to go to another place. At which point, the hostess snidely asked if this place was too expensive for us. I almost never write reviews, but felt obliged to as I wonder if their snobbish behavior and this question would have been asked to a group with a different skin color (considering we could all more than afford this place and had no reason to be asked this question other than our skin color).

Be the first to ReplyWe had a great time at Berber at a rain-kissed Sunday
We had a great time at Berber at a rain-kissed Sunday morning, as the Spring equinox unfurled its vibrant hues, and the Iranian cultures celebrate Nowruz, their New Year. We are certainly happy about our venture into the heart of San Francisco to try a Moroccan-inspired fusion brunch, resisting the temptation to stay snug and warm in our cozy homes. We were so glad we didn't give in to the call of laziness. The delightful venue we chose bustled with life, its popularity evident in the throngs of patrons lining up at the entrance. We were certainly lucky that our seat was reserved!Berber's Persian New Year High Tea offers an extravagant nine-course menu, featuring everything from refreshing salads and sumptuous cheese plates to delectable main courses and heavenly desserts. We sipped fragrant tea in harmony with each course, the aroma and flavors blending beautifully with mint and rose water. We both particularly loved in the fusion Benedict dubbed the 'Moroccan Hash.' The piรจce de rรฉsistance, however, was the Medjool Date Cake, a confection that managed to captivate even my usually date-averse palate. As our meal came to a close, we were graced to meet Berber, the owner, who shared his inspiring journey from Africa to founding his own business, and eventually achieving the coveted Michelin star. As an immigrant myself, his story touched my heart, reminding me of the resilience and perseverance that define our shared experience.Berber's dedication to evoking the essence of home resonated deeply with us, as he expertly wove his cultural heritage into the very fabric of the dining experience. The mesmerizing performances that unfolded before us created an atmosphere that transported us to a world beyond our own, making our Sunday morning adventure all the more unforgettable. We highly recommend checking out Berber if you are new to SF! And you should certainly check out their dinner shows! Every night is different with their chef-curated experiences, too!
