Tasty food for a break
Interesting menu with many options to discover. I enjoyed a delicious roll so much. Highly recommended. There are just a few tables to sit down but we didn't wait long on Thursday lunchtime. No alcohol is served.

This review has little to do with the food as I was only allowed to order 2 very small empanadas that were 4 dollars a piece. They were good, but nothing really special. I traveled from Florida to visit my daughter in Staten Island. We took the ferry into Manhattan. I chose Berber Street food after googling street food, though it was misleading, it had a 4.7 rating and in addition to good food ratings, they also raved about the chef. The hours posted for that day were 12-9. We arrived @3:30. The restaurant is a hole in the wall where you read the menu outside and order inside the very tiny area and eat outside, which would have been great after we traveled an hour to get there. When I finally figured out how to order, I followed behind a single woman who ordered and sat down. I was told by the owner that they were closing for 20 minutes because they were backed up. She was not in any way concerned about me or my daughter. She was very unfriendly. There were a few things I could order, one was empanadas. I asked if I could order those and wait the 20 minutes. She reluctantly said yes. When the 20 minutes were just about up, she appeared outside to fraternize with the customers, ignoring my daughter and I. The waiter came over to speak to us and she said to him โNot themโ We got up to leave. I stepped into the very tiny hole and told her I had never been so rudely treated at a restaurant in my life. We did nothing to deserve it.

Came here looking for a less formal bite to eat, and it blew our socks off. Everything was seasoned perfectly, and the juxtapositon between different textures and flavours throughout the menu was just amazing. The staff was also very warm and inviting.

Donโt get fooled by the size of the place or the apparent simple decor. The food that they serve here has nothing to envy to the fanciest restaurants in the city. The quality and freshness of the ingredients, the taste of the meals and the way they are cooked are simply amazing. I tried all the street food bites and wished I can borrow a second stomach to continue with all the house specialties. The kofta meat balls, the empanadas, the Accras and suya brochettes were succulent. Berber Street Food is now for sure my favorite place in the city.

Berber Street Food is a definite must visit. A small space with a few tables and a small counter. But it packs a big punch. We started off with the jerk wings and kofta balls. We enjoyed both, especially the wings. They had a great spice and were very tender. We also had the fried rice and the fish. The theme here is great spices and that continued. The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky. Loved it. Definitely would go back. Casual but not fast, not was it slow. The chef was very friendly. Definitely go visit.
