🤢 2/5 - We've lived in the area for a few years now and have really

We've lived in the area for a few years now and have really enjoyed the sister eatery "Crust" right next door (fabulous pizza). Four of us tonight decided to try out BHR for the first time since it's the off season and not as busy. Menu is rather small which is usually great as it means the chef can focus on doing those dishes superbly well. Bread brought to table was warm and delicious. They brought out dipping oil as well, but with a big blob of butter smeared on one side. It looked like leftovers from a prior table where someone wiped their butter knife off on the edge of the bowl. Server took our orders though never mentioned the specials (barely spoke at all). Be prepared for sticker shock. This isn't a place you bring picky eaters. The wasabi firecracker fried calamari was really disappointing. The breading tasted like plain flour, wouldn't stay on the rubbery calamari, and the wasabi firecracker sauce had zero heat. This was mentioned to the server, who just said "okay" and walked away. There is no soup or salad with any entree. You also apparently don't get refills on your drinks - water, soda, or coffee - unless it's something from the bar. We asked each time our server came by, were told "okay", but nothing was refilled though there constantly was a group of three to five servers standing at the host stand chatting away, ignoring their tables as well. Entrees: Surf & Turf - lobster tail was well sized and not a tiny rock lobster tails. The dodge steak (not filet mignon) was cooked well but needed salt. Raw oysters - nicely briny and fresh. Seafood pasta with pesto - disappointment. Four shrimp, a few scallops, and two baby-sized lobster claw meat with pappardelle pasta, corn, peas, a couple pieces of asparagus stalks, all drowned in pesto. It would have been better with half the pesto, though flavor wise was average. Cowboy rib steak with truffles steak fries and braised rainbow carrots. Steak was HUGE, cooked well, lacked salt. The four steak fries were good, and braised rainbow carrots needed seasoning. Overall, meals rated a consensus of "good but for the price I as expecting better" and "I've had a better at _____ restaurant." Presentation wasn't there, out of place orchid flowers on entrees gave odd resemblance to Chinese restaurants. When server brought out ketchup with the cowboy steak, we were kind of shocked. Steak sauce? Mabye....but ketchup with a $60 steak? We decided to skip dessert. I will say from past experience from ordering their desserts when dining at Crust that the desserts are well worth a visit.Be aware 20% tip is automatically added to your bill regardless of how many people in your party. Thats fine, though my issue is our service was barely mediocre. Tonight we diners made to feel unwelcome and unwanted since we were interrupting their slow night. We didn't ask to speak with anyone as it didn't seem like it would make much difference if they (manager) was fine with the servers mainly chatting and only going to their tables when there was food or a bill to be delivered. The only servers or staff we saw checking on customers were those associated with the private party in the back room and the bartender. Overall, it's doubtful we will make a return visit to BHR. The food was average for a nicer restaurant. Nothing looked like the incredible images posted on their website, and nothing justified the prices on the menu. Their desserts are utterly fantastic, though. Even if the food was more impressive, the service tonight was a big turn off. It doesn't matter if it's fast food or the hottest place in NYC - customer service is key. Being treated like you're an inconvenience can sour even the best meal.
