Besharam San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Love the food here, its innovative but also somehow
Love the food here, its innovative but also somehow authentic in terms of retaining the flavors of very dish. Its definitely a bit expensive for the kind of food they are serving, but you are paying for the overall experience. Also liked the overall service and warmth of our server.
Such delicious food.
Very unique and different than most Indian food I have had. The staff was super friendly and the restaurant was really pretty. but mostly the food was outstanding! We got all the chutneys- they were all amazing. The eggplant and dal were out of this world and the cheese naan was like the best pizza you have ever had!!! Cant wait to go back!
Food great, this time horrible ambiance
This was the 4th time I visited, and previous visits were great. This time (Wed 7pm) they had the worst music playing, LOUD, volume well over the 30+ guests' conversation. Music had a assaultative loud beat, it was like dining in a disco. Request to the waiter to reduce volume was ignored. I talked to the owners before I left. They were unhelpful and dismissive ('nobody else complained,' 'the staff choose the music' (and the volume??).) Neither said anything like "I'm sorry you had a bad experience." Why a place in the $100 range would play such rubbish music is beyond me. Perhaps it's not catering to older persons like me.

Extremely delicious food, though on the pricier side.
Mango Lassi very delicious, malai kofta was slightly spicy. Kachori dumplings were unique, crispy and delicious. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. Pathra kadhi was warm and comforting, nostalgic for people who grew up eating it, but it's a unique flavor profile for new palates. Lots of veggie options, some vegan. Ambiance was classy but not stuffy, playing Bollywood bops. Make a reservation for sure!
One of the best meals I've had in San Francisco.
We did the tasting menu, which I recommend highly. The food is unusual, interesting, but not weird, and you leave feeling full (unlike some tasting menus). The food was terrific, the service was great. We will be back.
Agree with the other reviewers, it's a really pricey Indian
Agree with the other reviewers, it's a really pricey Indian restaurant. Seems like a hype place, and the food is just ok. Everything is vegetarian.
Heena Patel has changed the Indian Fusion Game.
Beautiful representation and even beautiful taste. Drinks, Sweet (Shrikhand Cheesecake ) and everything on the menu is simply must try! Amazing service and Unique Location. Full recommendation!
Amazing India food.
Focus on Gujarati food. Subtle tastes and nice ambience. Recommend tasting menu.
Tried this place for lunch today.
Very expensive place for service, portion size and quality of food. Lunch has very limited menu choices. Presentation of food was very good but I am not a huge fan of modifying food for sake of making it look cool. 25 dollar Pav Bhaji they only serve 1 paav, for 11 dollar vada paav, vada comes on single sided bun, so how do I eat it? In any part of the world if you are eating Vada paav with fork and spoon you are committing a crime. Ask anyone who likes Vada paav to draw a Vada paav and they will do so with Vada stuffed in a pav and not slapped flat on single sides bun. Service is slow, i had to go to counter to order my food. I paid 125 dollars for 4 items one of them was lassi and then had to eat again in 2 hours. Disappointed Everything tasted average. Not a great tasting Indian place but place has good vibe.

This review is purely for event planning (attempted private space reservation) and NOT a review of the food. I really hate to leave this restaurant a bad review as a fellow Asian, but I wanted to save anyone thinking of planning an event at this restaurant. Hopefully they make changes and hire a contractor/intern to help event-planning requests, but this was my experience. TL;DR: Imagine a situation where you spent months planning an amazing surprise bday dinner for your spouse + 20 of her closest friends, only to have everyone show up at dinner and find out from the chef-owner's husband that he never made your reservation! Imagine my embarrassment and fury when I tried to talk to this man and he told me it's because I never made payment to the Toast invoice he sent me 2 weeks prior. The friggin invoice had no payment option and only allowed me to approve, which I did 2 weeks prior to the event! I then tried to reason with the man and ask him why he never followed up with me about the lack of payment over the course of 2 weeks of radio silence, but he said that he assumed I no longer wanted the reservation because I didn't submit payment. Why would I not want the reservation anymore if I approved the estimate and had wasted 2 months of my life trying to secure the private room rental? Not only that, I emailed this guy the day before my private dinner rental to confirm everything was okay and received no response- just ridiculous. The coordination and communication was by far the most unprofessional experience I have ever had dealing with a restaurant and I used to do event planning for 3 years in SF so I know a thing or 2 about booking private dinners with all sorts of restaurants. If it wasn't for the fact that my spouse is vegetarian and loves Indian food, I would've abandoned this restaurant long ago, but I desperately wanted this to work and I wanted to support this local restaurant. Alas, this restaurant completed f-ed me over and I wrote this long rant to save anyone else the trouble of planning a private event here.
I had high expectations after hearing about this restaurant
I had high expectations after hearing about this restaurant from my friends, but unfortunately, this place was a bit of a letdown. An Indian restaurant that charges for chutneys - that's a red flag in my book. Let's start with the positives first. Finding the restaurant tucked away in the Minnesota Street Project felt like stumbling upon a hidden gem. This also meant that parking was easy to find, which is great. The restaurant is vibrant and has a warm and pleasant ambiance. Now, let's switch gears. Besharam definitely lived up to its name (which translates to "shameless" in hindi) when it comes to service. We were a party of 5. While the 4 of us were waiting for our 5th friend to arrive, we decided to order some appetizers, only to be told by our server that they only take full order (not sure if that's the restaurant policy but we didn't bother to clarify). Anyway, after our friend joined us, we decided to order a few appetizers and one entree. When we were ready to place our order, our server kept pushing us to order more food for our party size, despite us telling him that we were okay with what we were getting. We've never had a server be so pushy that it felt a bit sales-y. When we politely opted for our own selection, he seemed almost disappointed. Speaking of selection, the pacing of our food left a lot to be desired. Everything seemed to arrive at once, turning our meal into an unintentional eating competition. We were inhaling food to make space for the next dish on our table (partly because our servers didn't do a good job of removing empty plates from our table). The food itself was a mixed bag. Mango lassi was delicious - thick and creamy with perfect sweetness level. The masala chai was okay. Most of the dishes fell flat and were bland. The Dahi Wada, a lentil dumpling in creamy yogurt, was good and flavorful because of the tamarind chutney. The Pav Bhaji Puff, a unique take on the classic street food, had potential, but the pastry crust was a tad dry. The Drunken Pani Puri, a fun twist on the traditional pani puri with a boozy filling, was a playful idea, but we could hardly taste the gin. The Dabeli Paratha, a flatbread stuffed with spiced potato filling, was decent, but nothing special. The Kachori Dumplings, another lentil dish, were a bit underseasoned. The Malai Koftas, vegetable dumplings in a creamy sauce, were the clear winner - flavorful and rich. The Garlic Naan, on the other hand, was very cheesy and filling. Apart from their a la carte menu, they also have a tasting menu priced at $75/person that is served family style and requires everyone at the table to participate. In my opinion, it is not worth it. You are better off ordering items from the a la carte menu.

Quick Summary: - Located within the art gallery - Reservation recommended, although we didn't follow this method - Vegetarian option - Noise level - medium-high - Indoor seating only - I liked how on the website menu it included images with it The restaurant is attached to the art gallery, but the entrance is separate from it. An easy indicator is the vibrant pink neon sign that glows in the night. Inside is a cozy size; one side of the wall is all windows, so you can view the art pieces while eating. The other side of the restaurant is a bar. Once we entered minutes after the clock struck opening hours, the staff asked if there was a reservation. We didn't, so they offered two tables closest to the entrance. For just the two of us, the table was small but not too small that our legs were bumping into each other. The table was always cleared out when we finished eating, so there was never a moment when the table felt cramped. The portions were unexpected; through the images it felt like the portions were light and we will leave hungry; however, in the end three dishes with dessert filled us up unexpectedly well. I want to thank the staff who guided us through the different menu options, and hinted at us that when ordering dessert we should split the cheese cake in half instead of eating it individually. That was a wonderful advice. We ordered the Malai Koftas with a side of Pratha, and Dahi Wada. For dessert we ordered a Shrikhand Cheesecake with chai tea. My favorite was the Dahi Wada. If you are a fan of pani puri, this had similar ingredients. I would have ordered a pani puri, but this one contained alcohol, which I wasn't feeling like eating with at that time. I loved the texture of the Dahi Wada. It has a crispy base and there was a punch of sourness. The Malai Koftas came alongside the Pratha. Without the staff explaining to use what the dishes were going to be like, we would not have realized that this dish needs a edible scooping agent like a naan or a Pratha. We chose the Pratha for the light crispiness. This dish had four fried patties suspended on a cashew sauce. We used the Pratha to scoop up the dish. In terms of the sauce, the flavor is strong but it's not salty. However, without a naan or a Pratha, I wouldn't be able to eat this like soup. To finish the dish, we cut up a slice of the cheese cake and drank the chai tea. I liked how the chai tea wasn't sweet and had a floral element of cardamon. The cheesecake was on the sweet end in my opinion, especially the crust. In each bite, we tasted a bit of saffron.
Did the tasting menu.
Not impressed at all. Will never do it again. Service was good.
Ok food.
Pricey for what it is. I have had much better Gujarati food in the Bay Area at the fraction of the cost. The fusion etc. did not cut it for me. Ambiance and location is good.
Great service and ambiance but the food was just ok imo.
Kachori dumplings and pav baji were super tasty. Paneer and cheesy garlic bread were just alright.
Amazing Indian food.
Every item was very well cooked and delicious. Ambience and customer service was great

1. I love where this is located in an industrial area of SFO far from all the chaos. With good parking spots. 2. Food was good drinks were great, ambiance was nice. But what stood out was the service. Great bartended since we sat in the Bar and fun and engaging server helped us pic out our menu and gave us great recommendations. 3. The Star at the restaurant is its Owner. A very cheerful and charismatic gentleman. We chatted with him quite a bit and he shared his story and vision of the restaurant finding time to connect during a busy week night. 4. Alright finally one advice book a head. No matter what day of the week this place is packed. The owner did have to turn away a few customers who did walk in. He was able to accommodate some walk ins but not all. 5. A definite must try spot for vegans/ vegetarians
Bistro ambience with below average food.
Bombay sandwich was served cold with old toasted bread. The poori chole. Chole were ok but the poori was cold. It looked like they were made and kept in the morning. They add 20% service charge for a party of two without any notice. Disappointing service, food and culture.
Man, the odds were really in their favor.
A powerful 9.0 on Infatuation. Properly drunk. Super hungry. It should not have been hard to send us home smiling. As some other reviewers have said, everything truly was bland -- either little to no distinctive flavor OR that many dishes shared very similar flavors. Kachori Dumplings and Drunken Pani Puri were, at best, pieces picked from a Costco Frozen sample stall with a line of 1 person. Mango Salad was...the most basic mixture of greens with bits of mango. It's also probably not a great signal when the server claims the Mango Salad as their favorite dish. Maska Paneer, Sambhar, Ringan No Oro all tasted too similar. Cheesy Garlic Bread was 98% cheese. No other texture or even Garlic flavor. Just overwhelming soft white cheese. I will say we all had a bit of a laugh about this. Roti and the chutney options tasted like nothing as well. Don't pay the extra $$$$ for this meal -- unless maybe if they re-do their menu. I will forever have trust issues with Infatuation now. Something is amiss.
Super yummy, great decor, friendly service.
Would come back for dinner as the brunch menu is smaller but delicious

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
