First, the food is above average but not spectacular. The menu the evening my wife and I were there was very limited and printed on a piece of colored paper that was barely legible. I would characterize the cuisine as "modern Indian" rather than traditional; the flavors were good, but not exciting. We ordered the on chat on the menu and it was okay but a bit of a mess on the plate. The two other dishes we order were okay but not memorable. The naan stuffed with peppers and onions was probably the best thing we ate.
Second, the setting on the rear patio was pleasant enough given the makeshift COVID reality. The biggest drawback, which is mentioned in other reviews, is that the music is WAY TOO LOUD. Our request to lower it were ignored, as has been mentioned in other reviews. I don't get this. If multiple guests request that the music be lowered, what does Bibi Ji gain by keeping it loud. Does anyone request that the music be made louder?
Third, the waiter serving us seemed clueless about the menu and Indian food in general. She could not tell us what wine by the glass they served but did bring out two samples (one white, one red). Both were terrible. This is a wine town and I would expect better. We decided to switch to beer and asked what kinds were available. She did not know but was sure that they had won awards. She brought out the cans and we order one of each and they were pretty good. I asked if one dish was similar to palak paneer and she did not know. I asked if the naan stuff with peppers and onion was similar to uttapam and she did not know.
Finally, we went here because we were craving Indian food since we left the Washington, DC area, which had many good restaurants -- the best of which was Rasika. We were hoping for something special at Bibi Ji after a local article mentioned that the Michelin Guide had mentioned it as a restaurant of interest. In the end, we were disappointed and do not plan to return.
