The food is good, but honestly, it is pretty pricey.
I think i rather go to an all you can eat and get about the same quality of food. The only sushi that has its uniqueness was the one in the tinfoil. You're kind of limited to your pick of sushi if you want the boat, but also, you have to choose more sushi to get the boat, i understand having only 3 rolls is not enough, but maybe get a smaller boat that can. The sushi is very pricey. The sashimi was ok, they didnt taste that fresh. The service was good, but you have to be fast cause a lot of people are waiting outside. The ambiance was good, just a lot of people .

The rice was crazy undercooked. Crunchy, hard pellets of terrible rice with every piece of sushi. As we were angrily pulling fish off this terrible rice to eat separately, I put a piece of eel in my mouth and promptly started choking. It was super gummy and FULL OF BONES. Before someone lectures me on unagi having bones...I *know*. I've even made unagi on my own. But these were full inch long, thick bones. Like, the length of bones should have been caught if they cared about a good eating experience. When I coughed out the eel, there were literally pieces of bone stuck to the back and top of my mouth. Listen, Billy's is expensive. It's too expensive to have such an unenjoyable experience. I called the restaurant and the person who picked up said, "sorry about that" and then hung up. I had to call again and say, "hey, I called because 1. I think you should refund me and 2. You need to tell the kitchen they're not cooking the rice." And the person literally said, "oh! Good point." I will not be back for a long while. I can't even think about eating eel ... I think Billy's ruined it for me.

Definitely a place you've got to experience if you like sushi; expertly made, delicious - among my top three sushi places ever, and excellent service. They treat you very well at Billy Sushi. We will definitely be back soon.

The food was such high quality and the servers were very helpful helping us pick out our food. Parking in the area is just street parking so come a bit early to your reservation. The space is moody and darkly lit so it gives a cozy and elevated vibe!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely fantastic.
Puts all other sushi to shame. If you are in the Minneapolis area, stop and make a reservation to dine here.. and make sure to stop into the speakeasy after dinner. I can't say enough positive things about the quality of service, atmosphere and food. By far my favorite roll was the fancy and furious. Everything I could ask for and just the right textures and flavors. The only thing better could possibly be in Hawaii or at Nobu. My second favorite menu item was the crispy rice tuna. I've been know to order this anywhere I can find it, but this version throws all other renditions out the window. The price is worth it, the food is amazing. You have to try it for yourself to believe it.

For those that care about the quality of food, price and even the ethics of a place, I advise you to steer clear of here. And to whoever wrote that Billy has an ego, you are entirely correct. He doesn't care where he gets the fish (for one, Bluefin Tuna is overfished and going extinct from the looks of it), he markets up the price of rolls that often falls apart or the rice isn't properly cooked (rolls made by terrible training practices to young sushi chefs who don't know anything about traditional Omakase or true sushi making techniques), and lastly, wage theft on his part to his employees. I'm assuming the place went out of business already because they had a security breach a few weeks ago and none/few of his workers got paid. Don't know the specifics for every employee, but terrible mismanagement.
Be the first to ReplyIt's honestly just so bad.
You can tell everything is about stroking Billy's ego. Prepare to wait 45 minutes for your food to come out only to be told you have 20 minutes to finish it all because they want to seat another party. Just read the reviews on any platform and you'll see that I'm not the only one with this experience. Oh and Billy may come to your table and order shots for you, then charge you for not only the liquor you consumed but a shot for himself as well. I will never return.

Knowledgeable, attentive waitress and fantastic, fresh fish used. Super exciting experience, looking forward to next time. Screaming O continues as my favorite roll and lightly seared salmon was my favorite nigiri. Shows that seared salmon must be my favorite fish to eat.

Warm ambiance, great service and the best quality fish I had in while in MN. Pricey but worth it, will come back for sure!!
Be the first to ReplyI felt like everything was okay.
We were celebrating my birthday it was a party of 6. We had reservations and were checked in on time. No delay on seating, despite no one showing up on time, which was great. Ambiance was nice. It was packed. It seemed like a lot of regulars, in my opinion ,which is always great. Food was okay to me. I enjoyed my roll(s), but not the apps. Drinks were okay as well. My party enjoyed their drinks. Service was pleasant. Our server was professional and knew his stuff. My ONLY issue was he knew we were celebrating my birthday and some of my party had not completed their food, so I was stuck between waiting, paying and running late for my resv downstaris at B.A.D. I asked if it was possible to get a back door entrance to BAD, due to it being late, us running late, wearing heels, etc. He said he couldn't. I walked around and was waiting for my party to show up in the alley, I was actually talking to his sister (who was amazing), she's a hostess at BAD (Billy's After Dark), here he comes bringing a group two tables away from us through the backdoor as I was waiting for my party to walk around through the alley! Way to celebrate the birthday girl! I lowkey wanted our tip back. LOLBVVS Would I come back? Probably not, especially after witnessing that, but would definitely visit their sister restaurant BAD again.
Be the first to ReplyA good option for a special night out! I made a reservation
A good option for a special night out! I made a reservation for 5 people about a week before for a Wednesday. 5:15pm and 8:45pm were the only decent options left. Book as far an advance if you can if you want a specific time. Also allow some extra time ahead to find parking. FOOD The food is fantastic, albeit pretty pricey. The ingredients are high quality and the rolls are unique and super tasty. Our group split edamame, JFC, the Superior Sushi Boat and it was plenty! SERVICE Everyone was kind and courteous. However we were annoyingly reminded about the 90-minute table limit multiple times even though we weren't ever near exceeding it. AMBIANCE The space is great! The movie poster decor in the bathroom is the best! Though the loud EDM was slightly distracting and made it hard to have a conversation in a crowded room.

Having looked forward to our visit to this restaurant, we were thrilled to finally experience it, and it exceeded our expectations. Their bluefin tuna cheek is a definite must-try, although it's worth noting that it's a generous portion suitable for two people. Nonetheless, it was truly worth it! The Oh Em Gii and Scream O rolls were standout favorites, and the Squid Game dish evoked memories of flavors from our home in the Philippines. Each dish we tried was delightful and justified the cost. Our server, Alexander, delivered exceptional service, remaining attentive and friendly throughout our meal. We strongly advise making reservations in advance, as this restaurant tends to be quite busy.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Hands down the BEST sushi in Minneapolis. We had a fabulous waitress who guided us through this experience and yes it was an experience. The sake was fantastic and the sushi was exquisite. I highly recommend for both new comers to sushi and seasoned vets. Check. Out. Billys.

Absolutely amazing sushi along with amazing drinks! Taking off a star since it was super expensive and I thought a little more than it needed to be. But the sushi was phenomenal along with the service
Be the first to ReplyLove walking in and sitting at the bar here.
The service is excellent and the sushi is high quality! I ordered the uncultured swan and tried a few others rolls and you couldn't go wrong with any. My favorite cocktail is the sign o' the times.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic experience and delicious food.
best sushi I've ever eaten. Server was knowledgeable and pleasant. Solid five stars. The ambiance was perfect... we sat at bar, which was fun.

I don't hand out a lot of 5 Stars but if this place doesn't deserve 5 Stars no one does! Now this was a fun night out with my Daughter, a Wolves game and dinner. Came here early, which I know is a good idea, I have tried to get a table here a couple of times just walking in later in the night...not going to happen! There was literally nothing that could have been changed for this trip! had some small plate items, tempura shrimp...avocado was awesome! I ordered a roll, wish I remember the name of it but it was perfect (could have been wrapped better but that is perhaps by design). The tuna was like butter, flavors were perfect! My daughter had the Udon and that too was damn near perfect! I had some Saki and then a cocktail with Japanese whiskey and I will say it was one of the best drinks I have ever had! A version of an Old Fashion with just perfect blending of flavors..I would have and could have had several of those! I will in fact come back just for that cocktail..This is such a gem of a spot. A place to explore all aspects of the menu. enjoy the room, the people and most of all the food!KT

If Billy Sushi is good enough for Ovechkin and Kaprizov, it's good enough for me. Friendly service, definitely worth the hype.
Be the first to ReplyAll I can say is Billy is the best host I have ever
All I can say is Billy is the best host I have ever experienced! Miko (stage name) is also a fun and entertaining master. I had the pleasure of Billy sitting down with me while in town on business by myself and sharing his story while listening to mine. The selection of fish is not vast but is concentrated on very high quality classic fish. The sashimi is cut super thick and broken down from whole tunas.

Food: the effort taken in playing all the meals was phenomenal. We ordered a couple of rolls and miso soup and everything felt that it was meant to be served to us rather than produced at lightening speed to fulfill an orderService: we sat at the bar/table against the sushi preparation area and loved chatting with our sushi chef as he prepared all (include our) order! He was incredible friendly, clearly informed on the nuances of every dish, and a great showman of his craft. He even went the extra mile to give us extra sauces and offer suggestions for the best way to enjoy our ordersAmbiance: the music was pop/modern and the decor was stunning, colorful, and captivating. You felt like you were invited into a youthful and energetic place where attention was paid floor to ceiling to ensure everything was clean and inviting
Be the first to ReplyI was super excited to get a reservation for this place on
I was super excited to get a reservation for this place on a Saturday evening. However, I was overall disappointed leaving this place. The music and patrons were so loud I could barely hear my husband or adult children. This was on top of the room temperature in the restaurant. I literally felt like I was in a sauna. It was so warm I asked the server if they could open a door or window. His face was red and sweaty; that's how hot it was. He also confirmed how warm the room was. Then the food. I'm no aficionado but having lived in California for many years I know a little about good Japanese. We ordered a roll that the server assured me was spicy. It was not, and the mint left a weird after taste that made it taste like chalk. It was also sloppy and large and falling apart. The gyoza and Japanese fried chicken rolls were bland and too doughy. The spring roll was probably the worst concoction I had. It was slimy and tasted like seaweed. The salmon appetizer was okay, but super slippery and difficult to lift. The best thing I had was a glass of white wine, and because of the unusual heat in the room, it was cool but not cold. The waiter offered to put a large ice cube in it, which I obliged because at that point I didn't care. If I return I will be more realistic about my expectations.

Billy's sushi not only has delicious food but the environment is warm and energized with happy staff and customers. Started off with splitting edamame and chicken gyoza. Drinks were amazing, sign O the times was tart but so refreshing with the grapefruit aspect. At your window came in the sweetest swan glass and was the most beautiful purple. For sushi the uncultured swan was beautifully displayed and had the best flavor. Highly recommend making a reservation, and be ready to be on a waitlist for a while. It was so worth the wait.

We chose Billy Sushi for our Galentines dinner this year and we're so happy with it! The drinks and the food were just perfection. Fun atmosphere and super friendly staff, only wish we had more room in our stomachs to try more things! The uncultured swan roll was absolutely delicious and perfect for less adventurous sushi goers. The chicken gyoza are so crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned on the inside, you will find yourself searching for more when they are gone! There was a huge variety of different rolls and sashimi, the server told us about current specials and was very attentive. We made reservations and were able to walk right to our table, so I would definitely suggest doing that because this place was packed!
Be the first to ReplyA great sushi place.
Wonderful atmosphere with decent customer service. When I went I got 4 sushi rolls and they were all delicious. However, with that being said, it is overpriced. I understand that this is a premium place to eat at but you can get a very similar sushi roll at a competing restaurant for 1/2 the price. Overall great place and vibe... which is probably what you end up paying for. 4/5.
