Bistro Don Giovanni Napa Reviews from The Last Year
It’s a place not to be missed if you are looking for authentic Italian food in a great setting in Napa
We had a 5pm reservation to celebrate my husbands birthday and we were seated promptly by a friendly welcoming team member . Service was wonderfully provided by Juan ( Colombian) who provided us with wonderful Italian wine selections and great recommendations for all of our entrees . Service was wonderful,, water glasses were filled promptly and dessert was provided to celebrate my husbands Birthday . I highly recommend a visit to Bistro Giovanni for anyone looking for authentic Italian food, great wine and wonderful ambiance service .👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Our sommelier at our wine tasting at Castell Amoroso highly
Our sommelier at our wine tasting at Castell Amoroso highly recommended this place, so we decided to give it a try. After not finding any availability for reservations online, we decided to try our luck with a walk-in at Bistro Don Giovanni. To our delight, we were seated immediately. The server was friendly, which set a positive tone for the evening. We started with the fritto misto, but it felt very heavy and didn't quite meet our expectations. For our entrees, we opted for pasta. I had the ragu sauce, which was pretty good, but the pasta was not al dente as I prefer. Overall, the food was quite average, falling short of the high hopes we had for this restaurant. Despite the food, the ambiance and space at Bistro Don Giovanni are beautiful. The setting is charming and elegant, making it a lovely place to dine.
This is a review based on trying to plan a small birthday
This is a review based on trying to plan a small birthday dinner at this location. I originally filled out a form online for someone to get back to me which no one did. So I called the restaurant during hours and the hostess told me the person who's in charge of these events is named Nicole. She gave me her email address and I emailed her right away with all my information. It's been days now and still no response from Nicole. The event I was planning is next weekend so obviously had to plan elsewhere. We loved this restaurant, thus why wanting to host a dinner. Bummer that they couldn't simply call or email a response. Such a simple task.
Amazing experience! Homemade pasta! The outdoor dining
Amazing experience! Homemade pasta! The outdoor dining experience is the closest thing to Italy you will experience in Napa. We usually have lunch here at least once a year. Although it sounds different, the pizza with French fries toppings is pretty darn tasty!
The atmosphere here is very welcoming.
We were seated immediately and our waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable. He made sure to explain the specials they had that day which I appreciated. He made everything sound so good, I had a hard time choosing what to order! I ended up getting the branzino (fish of the day) with a side of white beans. The meal was absolutely amazing and surpassed my expectations! I could not recommend this restaurant more.

Love Bistro Don Giovanni!
I have been here a few times over the last few years, and it has become my favorite place to eat when visiting Napa. Food has always been fantastic and memorable. Our group recently had lamb shank, scallop risotto, fish special and house chicken. Each was cooked perfectly and very delicious. Shared some fried olives, carpaccio, grilled octopus which were delicious. My favorite dish is the pasta with pesto. It is creamy and light…wish I knew how to make it! The kind of dish you think about after you leave! Service is friendly, professional and spot on. The outdoor patio is charming and colorful… sit near the vineyard if you can! Love this place and will always choose it first on a visit to beautiful Napa! Bon appetit!
Good quality food, wine and location with service to match
Awesome restaurant. Great food, great wine, fabulous service and a location that is just perfect for the Napa Valley. Menu is the same throughout the day (went for lunch and would like to have had just a snack / lunch menu) but there are plenty of specials which seem to be driven by what locally source ingredients are available (the kitchen garden is right next to the terrace that you eat on). Serving staff are attentive without being overbearing and when the food arrives it is some of the best you will find anywhere in Napa. Not cheap by any means (no where seems to be cheap in the US anymore!) but you certainly get value for money.
Tourist trap!
Beautiful restaurant inside and out with a convient location if you are staying at the nearby hotel. Great service. Food was not beautiful or even great. Way overpriced! Poor quality! I ordered a fish special that was super salty and came with an arugula salad. I thought the tomatoes in the salad were peaches because they were so mushy and old. There was no dressing on the salad. Drinks were watered down. The veal parm was poorly crusted and also over salted. The pasta was so bland, it was more for the kids menu. And the cherry on top was salt on the table! Excellent restaurants do not need to have salt on the table.
Very tasty food and the ambience is very cozy! I took off
Very tasty food and the ambience is very cozy! I took off one star because of service. Our waiter didn't seem like he wanted to be there and completely forgotten about us where we had to go try to catch him to get bread or even water. Won't mention his name maybe he just had a bad day. There was a young man who was helping the waiter he had a cross earring his name was Marlon. Marlon was very helpful and attentive! Other than that food was so good and we will give this place another try of course !
The setting is great, that's all
Delightful setting with dogs allowed at outdoor tables. We had a beet salad starter which was good but could have been better if the roquefort hadn't been in largish mashed up lumps. They delivered our main course before we were even close to finishing the salad - even the food runner was confused. 10 minutes later the same food was re delivered but hadn't been kept hot. I left half of my pasta bolognese and my wife sent her ravioli back and didn't eat. Recommended for embracing the ambiance with a glass of expensive wine but the food is disappointing.
Dined for lunch on a Saturday.
Steven M. (our server) was amazing, friendly, attentive, and professional. The salmon dish was good; the Lamb shank dish was above average. The fish special dish was done ok but the portion was very small. Now, the Risotto special was abysmal (runny and only two small shrimp neither were cleaned well (undeveined) One person in our party ordered simply outside of the menu (mashed potatoes and a simple spaghetti with meat sauce.) It appeared this must have upset the chef as we got runny unseasoned potatoes and sticky pasta with a minimum of sauce. We noticed the red sauce on our very good ravioli appetizer was different than the ketchup+ that was served on our spaghetti. Then there were the flies, large ones. that were a nuisance. There were no flies in the parking lot. There were no flies at the previous two outdoor tastings soooo it wasnt that the bistro has an open air configuration. Fix the flies. We did not demand new dishes or complain at the point of attack because - We had to wait almost 45 minutes for what we got. Also we were between wine tasting appointments. The Bistro came highly recommended, but aside from Steven M. we were fairly disappointed.
We never sit at the bar.
What a mistake. We popped by for a drink and some olives and had the best service from bartender Mike. He made us feel so welcome. We love the staff at Don G's as much as we love the food!
Wonderful mouth watering, delicious food (hard to put down
Wonderful mouth watering, delicious food (hard to put down garlic bread) in a garden atmosphere. Service is outstanding. Accomadating to anyone with special dietary needs. Inviting garden surroundings and quiet enough so a group can chat without the need to yell. Everyone ordered different items, with no one being disappointed. A must go to spot for lunch or dinner while in the wine country. Be certain to make a reservation!

I have been here on every nyc trip and this place has not disappointed me! One of my favorite places to eat Italian food. And so much history on these streets! It's a great time to come here when it's sunny outside. We ordered the fettucine alfredo and lobster ravioli, I like the alfredo more! We also ordered the octopus and really yummy!! I'll be back here again!
Best Italian in Napa!
Romantic dinner in a beautiful garden patio setting. Great for couples, family & friends gatherings. Food, service ambience are all excellent. Our waiter recommended entree, and dessert was heavenly!
Grazi for great lunch!
Quite possibly best salmon Caesar ever. And I’ve tried a lot of salmon Caesar’s!! Well done (and wine and setting great too!)
Lovely lunch spot
Great italian spot with a large covered patio for outdoor eating. Traditional italian dishes that were so good. Everything was very good, service included. The bread and pesto at the start was exceptional as was the tiramisu at the end. If in Napa you should go.
Terrible service
I'll start with the good: the food was excellent, the patio ambiance was wonderful, and Juan saved the day. The bad: Peyman was our server and he was quite possibly the rudest person I've ever met. He was cold and condescending from the moment he walked up to our table. His arrogance was astounding. He never introduced himself or greeted our table. He spouted off 5 or 6 specials and then was put out when we asked him to repeat a few. We had questions about a few things on the menu and he again was very irritated by our questions. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and after 25 minutes we still didn't have anything and Peyman had not returned. We were looking around to see if we could find him and another staff member asked if we needed anything. We said we were waiting for Peyman to come back and he said he would let Peyman know we were looking for him. Peyman came to the table and scolded us for asking for him. He told us he was busy at the bar and we needed to be more patient. None of us said a word because we were so shocked by his attitude. We asked for butter to go with our bread because one of the people at our table wasn't a fan of olive oil. He laughed and rolled his eyes and asked us why we would want butter when we had olive oil on the table. He turned with a huff and left without taking our order. He returned 10 minutes later with butter and a balsamic dipping sauce (which was fantastic). He begrudgingly took our order with as little interaction as possible. We all felt so uncomfortable. At this point I couldn't take anymore from Peyman. We weren't spending $500 on dinner to be disrespected by a staff member. I asked the hostess if we could switch servers and she brought the manager over. I explained the situation to him and he was apologetic and said he would send someone else over to help us. Juan took over our table and he was a dream. He was friendly, kind and attentive. At this point we had been sitting at the table for almost an hour and still didn't have our appetizer. We asked about it and Juan said it had never been ordered by Peyman. He apologized and put it in. We received our first course without any problems. When our entrees came out 2 of 5 were wrong. In fact, one was missing altogether. Juan was very apologetic and promised to fix it right away. The other entrees came out within 10 minutes and we all loved the food. Juan came to check on us frequently and took great care of us. He even brought out a complimentary desert for table to share. Juan really turned our experience around and saved the day.
Happiness!
First time in Napa. Had a fantastic meal at Giovanni's with the fam. Fried olives and grilled octopus were amazing. Linguine and clams, pizza and wine and of course great service from Oscar!

My husband made reservation for us to have dinner for my birthday. He specifically asked for a table by the fire. When we got there he very politely mentioned to the hostess that it's my birthday. She sat us ( my husband our two daughters and me) at a small table with four chairs right next to a larger table with five chairs that was in front of the fire. I asked if we are able to sit at that table and she just said "No". No explanation. The food was delicious, every single server was caring and took care of us. That was a beautiful part. However I felt cold the whole time and the table next to the fire remained open and unused by anyone. I will not be coming back there.

Bistro Don Giovanni truly exceeded all expectations! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting and charming. The dinner experience was simply superb - every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure our evening was unforgettable. Can't wait to return and explore more of their delicious menu! Highly recommend for anyone looking for an exquisite dining experience.
People have raved about this place so we were eager to give
People have raved about this place so we were eager to give it a try. Sadly another case of Napa's over hype under deliver establishment. Right from the start I watched our hostess cross out our reservation and seat a more hoity toity looking couple ahead of us leaving us to stand and wait for half an hour. When we were finally seated we were placed at a makeshift table right in the middle of traffic getting smacked into by patrons and staff the whole time. Our server could not have cared less if we dropped dead at the table and only interacted with us to take our order and collect the tab, no checking in no nothing. The food was no better no worse than anything else you can find in town. I can't put my finger on it exactly but there is a funky dusty stale smell in the place that put me off too.

had a reservation and we came as soon as it opened so there was no wait whatsoever. definitely opt for patio seating, amazing amazing vibes! service was great and food was even better (better than i expected ngl) got the risotto of the day and the clam spaghetti, both were amazing! definitely will be back
Great service, nice ambiance, cocktails were wonderful.
We loved the salmon, Lamb Gnocchi, beet salad, everything actually. The server was so welcoming and kind. The whole experience was wonderful!
A little off the beaten path but well worth the short drive
A little off the beaten path but well worth the short drive from downtown. Great staff and pasta. Nice Italian/Napa wine list. Butterscotch pudding is the bomb! Very family friendly and expanded patio outside. Enjoy!

My husband and I love Bistro Don Giovanni! One of our favorite restaurants in the world. We dine here two to three times per week. Excellent food and service. Big shout out to the entire crew - we love you all. Keith and Leslie Barnes, Napa
The food at Bistro Don Giovanni is always amazing and tasty.
The staff is really attentive and take great care of the customer. We love sitting in the outdoor space when we can. On a nice day there is nothing like it.
My favorite Italian restaurant in California hands down.
The food is always consistent and absolutely outstanding. My favorite is the salmon and ravioli, but you absolutely can't go wrong with everything on the menu. Living in Napa, it's hard not to come to Don G's everyday!
Came here last night with a 8:15pm dinner reservation.
Felt very very rushed. We ordered our food pasta if the day and risotto of the day. It came out literally in 2 mins after ordering while I am eating my bread btw. So fast that the waiter had to apologize for it. Maybe this explains why the shrimp was over cooked as it's been sitting under the light too long? Half way through my risotto the bus boy asked me if I was done. Wtf awkwardly I decided to take the rest to go. Maybe late reservations changes the service. Overall I like the ambiance food would be better if fresh. I would go e this place another try at an earlier time.
