Excellent atmosphere and delicious dishes.
We sat at downstairs which is a little bit narrow.

This particular review is based on the "dine out" menu experience. Because we came for brunch prior, I was excited to experience the dinner but left disappointed by the main entree. The cod was very salty and didn't seem fresh and the accompanied clam was chewy. At least the service is good and the ambiance is nice. I appreciate that they offered to make me the chicken (to swap for the fish). The chicken presentation was nice and risotto tasty. The meat itself was very dry and the meat close the bone was red. Apps looked good (French onion soup and kale salad), dessert presented well and the pear chocolate cake tasted good. My profiterole on the other hand did not taste fresh. Also oddly enough the bread basket had one warm roll and cold pieces of bread. However it is nice that they do provide the bread basket.
Be the first to ReplyWent for Restaurant Week lunch.
Food was good and nicely presented. Service was good but slow. Three of us, two had cokes which were refilled quickly. Big surprise when check came and we were charged $25 for coke, that's one quarter of the bill for coke. Such an upscale restaurant with upscale pricing can't refill a $5 coke for free.

Exquisite flavors! Was a delight to be here for dine out Boston. The kale Caesar was spinach but still good, the French onion soup was fine, the mussels in cream sauce were everyone's favorite appetizer. I'll be honest, was my first time have French onion soup, don't think it's for me and wasn't very hot... And there was a fruitiness or sweetness to it that felt beyond caramelized onions. For mains the fish was good, the gnocchi was delightful and funky like the feta tasted like goat cheese, the chicken was very juicy and tender over the rich mushroom risotto. My favorite was the risotto! For dessert we got the creme brulee (a classic favorite for a reason!), The chocolate pear cake that was much more like a mousse layered cake with nice ice cream, and the mango sorbet on the profiteroles was super-flavor-bomb-tasting goodness. The only thing I WISH I knew, was the bottles of sparkling water were $20 EACH... The three of us thought drinking water would save on wine but I wish I had gotten another glass and just tap water instead. Well, you live and you learn! We saved a lot by doing the dine out Boston menu ($46 for 3 courses from their pre fix menu)For the algorithm: the service was a bit slow and things weren't really hot at the end of the night. We had a reservation for 8:30 and our table wasn't ready when we got there. There's no good waiting area on these cold March nights. You're placed awkwardly in front of stairs employees keep running out of by the rotating door. Or you're basically standing in the dining area. The ambience was giving modern trying to touch the classic by having exposed beams, granite tables, comfy comfy booths, distracting mirrors at eye height good to check your face in and zone out into during this long dining experience, tile laid in an interesting star pattern, the chairs at the bar looked uncomfortable with the curved back, felt a little bare but definitely nice.

Tonight I ordered Ora King salmon and pommes frites from Bistro du Midi via DoorDash. I requested that the salmon dish be cooked without dairy and the pommes frites be made without salt and well done. Before placing the order I called the restaurant and had a discussion with a hostess. In response to my question about the asparagus that comes with the entree, she said that it was a reasonable amount and not a small portion. This was my first time eating Ora King salmon, and it had a very enjoyable flavor. The asparagus had been replaced by another vegetable that resembled broccolini; there were two sprigs of it, saturated with oil. The pommes frites were salt-free, but sufficiently undercooked as to be inedible. The salmon tasted too rich to be eaten without any starch to accompany it, so I quickly cooked up a pot of pilaf rice. The meal was salvaged by the rice and a Tuscan kale salad that I had on hand from another restaurant. I hope that people eat a lot better in Bordeaux and Nice than they do at Bistro du Midi.
Be the first to ReplyLovely little place, on the edge of the Commons.
Sat at bar and was waited on promptly and not rushed, even though I was solo. Great wine list.

3.5Two of us had come for brunch and got a window seat which had a nice view. The host and waiter were welcoming and provided great service!Unfortunately, the dishes we chose for brunch were average. The salmon benedict might has well have been a vegetarian option with such small pieces of salmon. Also, ricotta pancakes are hard to make well and here it was just average (with the smallest pieces of grapefruit). Would recommend trying other menu options. I did love the espressotini though (not too sweet, non-alcoholic option).

I've had dinner in this location before and had a very good experiences but I came here for lunch on Valentine's Day. I regret to say it wasn't as good as I had expected. Here are the pluses: Service good, Great seat by the window as requested, the tuna tartare was excellent. However, my Steak Frites was overcooked, and frankly it's not my preferred cut of beef (flank). When we sat down I had already said I wanted lemons for my water and got a "yes" and then had to remind them again. That's minor compared to a specifically requested medium rare and although the server doesn't control the kitchen mine came well done and the frites were a overcooked so I had it sent back and since my husband ordered the same thing I had to wait for my replacement. My 2nd steak frites were good and the frites was a better quality and steak was medium rare as requested. I had to wait 15 minutes though. Our server really cared about us which made our experience better. He did comp us for the mishap and gave us two cappuccinos on the house. Overall, I sincerely feel that they could do a better job considering the location and the ambiance. Like I'm thinking what happened? I had some really good dining experiences here. This time was a huge let down because I love French food and I just ate at another French Bistro over the weekend and unfortunately this bistro has got some serious competition.
Be the first to ReplyWow! This place was incredible.
We came in on a dark and rainy day and this soup really hit the spot. We sat downstairs since we were wet from the rain. The downstairs area has a bar and cute atmosphere. There is an upstairs portion as well that is more formal. Our server was excellent and extremely attentive. She constantly filled out glasses with water and checked in on us. We will be back here again.

Came here for dinner for the Dine Out Boston! All the food was so delicious and pretty. The servers are very friendly and professional. The place looks very nice and they had nice paintings hanging on the wall. I felt like I was in a very high end restaurant. The Dine Out Boston deal is more than worth it!!! Love the place

I walked past all the time, but I finally had the chance to come by and grab a meal. It's definitely on the pricey end, but look at where it's located. The food was extraordinary, and I thought the diversity of the many choices was stellar. The bartender, Josh, served me and provided some great recommendations throughout the evening. I had a great meal. Nothing more to say, other than I felt the portion associated with the duck, which was 40 something dollars, was a little bit light. But that's OK, fully understand the pressures that the restaurant industry are faced with.Expansive wine list and very impressive list of cheeses and meats.Thank you for the great meal, and I look forward to coming back next time with my wife!
Be the first to ReplyThe burger was the juiciest I've ever had.
Definitely get that!!! fries were good and crispy with seasoning. Ricotta pancakes eggs bacon and home fries my party enjoyed. Great brunch place with outdoor seating right across from the Public Gardens Park.

Truffle flatbread and oysters were great! Loved the bartenders recommendation for the French Chardonnay. Great location across from the City Garden.

Be the first to ReplyEvery time I've come to this restaurant I've been impressed.
Last time I went I enjoyed the moules frites with red wine. The saffron aioli for the fries was delicious and the garlic sauce the mussels were cooked in was one of the best I've had. Would definitely recommend!

Be the first to ReplyI came here with a group, and the service was slow.
The food, however, made up for it. It was simply fantastic, from the beet gnocchi to charred octopus and bouillabaisse.

We came for the first time during Dine Out Boston and absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was wonderful...perfect for date night! The bar is located on the first floor and the formal dining area is on the second floor. The restaurant has beautiful decor with unique touches such as a fireplace which makes for a cozy yet upscale atmosphere. It also overlooks Boston Public Garden which I'd imagine is a beautiful view during the brunch/lunch hours. The food was outstanding as well. I ordered the Cauliflower soup, Braised Lamb, and the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee. I was particularly impressed by the cauliflower soup because they were able to make a simple dish so unique. We highly recommend Bistro du Midi for a special occasion or date night. Will definitely be coming back to try their brunch!

We had initially planned to try Bistro Du Midi during Boston "Dine Out" Week, but didn't realize that they didn't do the "Dine Out" menu on Saturdays. Nevertheless, we loved our experience and will definitely be saving up to go again. We managed to find parking relatively quickly on the parallel streets and is accessible by the green line. It's a perfect place for a special date/occasion. Atmosphere (5/5):We sat upstairs on the second floor, and we had a beautiful view of the Boston Public Gardens with some soft candlelight and dimmed lighting(but still easily able to read the menu). As you climb upstairs, you get to see a glimpse of their large wine cellar. The bar area on the first floor also looked like a fun atmosphere. Bistro Du Midi manages to capture the French bistro essence, with no stuffiness, but definitely elegance. The noise level is perfect and great for you to have table conversations. Food + Drinks (4.5/5):For drinks, we started with the Jacques rose and Basically Delicious. We ordered the Bouillabaisse du Midi, Duck Breast, Pommes Frites, and Baby Brussels. There was a good amount of seafood(lobster claw, salmon, and pan seared fish and multiple shrimp) with great seafood base. My only wish for that dish was that there be more bread for you to be able to eat with the dish. I could only eat 1/3 of the dish and actually was happy to be able to take it home. My dinning partner really enjoyed the duck breast and thought it was perfectly cooked. I enjoyed both of the sides but my partner felt that the Brussel sprouts was slightly dry. The main standout was the dessert: vanilla bean crème brulee with the blood orange and berries. It was the ideal way to end our meal. It pairs beautifully with the Bugey Cerdon wine that our waitress had recommended.Service(5/5):I would give 6 stars if that was an option because of the lovely staff. The staff were absolutely fantastic and incredibly friendly/attentive. Unfortunately, I cannot remember our waitress's name, but she absolutely made our evening. I had asked for some of the food to be packed into leftover containers, and mistakenly left it at the table. She quickly realized it and ran it downstairs to us while we were grabbing our coats. She also made us laugh through the evening and was incredibly professional. The dishes were cleared quickly and everyone was quite friendly.

I wrote this review after attempting to resolve an overcharge bill issue with the restaurant over 2 weeks. My friends booked a table of 4 with my girlfriend and I on 2/26/22 for 5pm. All of us got the tasting menu, while 2 included the wine pairing First the positives: 1.The $135 for the 7 course tasting menu was reasonably priced 2. My girlfriend was doing a vegetarian phase and they were able to accommodate her with a very good vegetarian tasting. The beat gnocchi was quite fantastic, and better than some of the meat options. 3. The Mousse we had for dessert was also fantastic, they added a bottom layer that was crunchy and the added texture really brought out the finale. Underwelming1. The wagyu course was actually american wagyu (disappointing but okay) and turned out to be 3 ounces of stringy tendon. The other two people with the wagyu got slightly better cuts. I would have expected more selective cuts with given the 3 oz serving size2. Was charged full price for the vegetarian tasting (Could be understandable for the accommodation and the well thought out meal, but the normal tasting had significantly more expensive ingredients)3. Got charged for a wine top off for my friend's wine pairing. The server's language made it seem like it was on the house. (understandable but a bit annoying)The Bad 1. We had dinner on 2/25. We were in a hurry to an event so I paid the bill in a rush and was going to follow up on some charges with my friend. 2. On 2/27 I looked at my bill and discussed it with my friends about an extra charge to see if it was something they ordered. But realized we got charged roughly $85 ($64 + tax and tip) extra for the dessert course for a tasting menu, an error that seems inconceivable to me, since the server was diligent enough to charged our table for a wine top off for my friends even though his offer at the time made it seem like he was offering it on the house. I called them back and reached the GM, Juan who confirmed the error and promised to help resolve the issue. 3. The GM promised to call me back on 2/28 with next steps which he did not do. I called in around 10pm after not hearing anything and he reassured me he would call me back once he sorted the matter out. Even if they were working on it, a courtesy update on the date that was stated, for an error on the restaurant's part is not unreasonable to expect. 4. He finally called me back on 3/2 and offered me a $100 giftcard for the $85 overcharge. Alright fine, and I emailed him my address. He said I could pick it up or have it mailed to me. I chose mail and he said it would get sent out on Friday 3/4 with all the mail. 5. I did not get a followup after that. It is now 3/11 a week after the mail should have gone out, and a full 2 weeks since this issue occurred. It should not take 7 days to deliver mail within 5 miles. This remains unresolvedThis list of events is to give a clear picture on what has happened and that this level of service for an error on the restaurant's part feels extremely disappointing. Also attached my bill which clearly shows a charge on the 7th course of a tasting menu.Edit: I sent them an email the night of 3/11 and received a call back the following day. The GM said he sent another giftcard, this time with a tracking number for 3/14 delivery. I told them I hope this would be our final conversation and if I did not receive any mail, I would deal with my credit card company. This prompted them to agree to speak to their accounting team to also reverse the initial overcharge. I did receive the followup mail on 3/14 and my credit card reflects the charge reversal. While its a mystery why the first gift card never arrived, I will consider this matter resolved.

The food was flavorful and the service was attentive but maybe too attentive. It was a bit overwhelming the amount of times they came over to check on us, refill water, or try to take away our plates before we were done. Upstairs is supposed to be more formal but I actually liked the decor downstairs much better.

Took myself on a birthday dinner and I'm so happy I went to Bistro du Midi. It's a little spot downtown that truly reminded me of my trip to Paris. For starters I had the Spanish Octopus with a side of pommes frites that was delightful. Perfect flavor! For an entree I had the tomato ricotta tortellini. It was pretty small but I had to remind myself that French cuisine is pretty small. It was SO good though. I ended it with the coconut Beignets! 10/10 experience and my server was amazing! Thanks for making my night.
