You gotta go here!
The atmosphere, the service, the food!!!! Exceptionally good! Everything we ordered was delicious and well presented.

Very good bistro dinner. Our server was friendly, helpful and efficient. The place was packed. I enjoyed my local sausage and white asparagus, and the Paris-Breat dessert was to die for.

This is classic Paris Bistrot. Simple food well presented. Large portions! Staff lovely. Bit noisy but that’s because everyone is loving it so much! I’ll be back
Be the first to ReplyCant stop thinking of the sauce
I dream of the peppercorn sauce... I have never managed to try one as good as this. What is it! The fries were perfect, and the steak. Brisk yet efficent french service, very tightly packed seats, but just so good

Highly recommended so we went for dinner - lacking in atmosphere, rude/abrupt staff and limited menu. We left and went to a restaurant around the corner - we preferred the vibe and friendly staff elsewhere
Be the first to ReplyExcellent classic bistro
Our recent dinner at Bistro Paul Bert was excellent. From our arrival to departure it was great. They welcomed us easily and sat us down promptly. Service was very good, quick, efficient. Funny, helpful waiter. Classic room. Every dish was delicious. The scallops, mushroom starter and steak frites in particular. Best frites ever. Good wine list, great bottle of beajoulais. Excellent bread. Large cheese plate. The souffle looked outstanding, as did the creme caramel. Outstanding classic bistro spot. One of our favorite restaurants anywhere.
Be the first to ReplySo Disappointing - okay food but grubby decor.
I read so many glowing reviews online before we visited. We had booked lunch there, and when we arrived it was bustling. At first, they couldn’t find my booking (which, by the way I had the our hotel do for us because they do not answer the phone and don’t have a booking service on their website). Then we saw it in their book and pointed it out. So while we waited, standing at the bar, and they gave us some delicious cheese puffs, and a glass of cremant . Then horribly, they sat us right next to the toilet, even though there were other tables available and refused to move us, saying they were other people waiting, and I found the whole restaurant to be filthy and grubby. Mirrors cracked and greasy floors dirty, no tablecloth and the bathroom was truly vile… I wasn’t extremely hungry, so I had the scallops with Kari Grosse, which was very nice and white asparagus, which I enjoyed. My friend had the steak frites with Poivre sauce, which was okay, and the frites were delicious. But all in all, in the end it really wasn’t worth the effort, it was quite a long way from our hotel. A very expensive taxi ride away from the Madeleine. I would never go there again, we could have found something much closer and better near where we were staying. 👎

We visited Paul Bert on a recent visit to Paris based on our previous experiences and the quality of the steak! Well, we won’t be visiting again after this last time! We both ordered the Fillet of Beef with the pepper sauce and French Fries - the house specialty! The price was 44€ each and we had what should have been a mid range Crozes Hermitage to accompany. The wine was chilled beyond recovery so really closed and acidic rather than mellow and warm. The steak was over cooked by some way ( order was medium rare) and less the 1.5 cms in depth! It was even a bit chewy so suspect it has lived a very long life on the hoof….. Overall, a major disappointment and especially with its reputation!

The bistro atmosphere sell the restaurant when you walk in -- busy, food smells, bustling of waiters, and noisy (but not too noisy!). The steaks, of course, are their specialty. We had the côte de bœuf and it was very nice. A nice bottle of wine complemented it well.
Be the first to ReplyClassic bistrot fare at le Paul Bert
Had a very enjoyable meal here a few weeks ago at this charming bistro. Service is efficient - entrees were on the table in no time at all eggs with morels and a delicious vegetable salad, followed by fillet steak in a Sarawak peppercorn sauce, with incredible fries. There’s a 20 min wait however if you order the grand marnier soufflé (easily enough to feed 2) and the Îles flottants is so huge it was more like a continent than a mere Île. Arrive on a Saturday and you can also explore the little flea market on the Rue du faubourg saint-Antoine.

We have been to Bistrot Paul Bert several times, and keep coming back. It is a quite popular old school, classic Parisian bistro. It is a bit off the beaten track, and the clientele seems to be a mix of locals and tourists. The decor is comfortable but not at all fancy, the menu is pretty simple and mostly consists of basic bistro standards, heavy on meat. We have always been very happy there. On our most recent visit we had the most delightful waitress...very friendly, very efficient, and simply charming. She made our visit special and ensured that we'll be back again. While the food is a solid "4," I rated the restaurant a "5" because of the overall experience.
Be the first to ReplySimply Spectacular but book Early
We watched Andrew Zimmern's " Delicious Destinations" which recommended Paul Bert's as the quintessential Paris Bistro for Steak Frites. We decided to book a lunch date. The Bistro offers a daily prix fix lunch with three courses for a very reasonable 20 to 25 Euros. I ordered ala carte with wonderfully prepared veal sweetbreads in a puff pastry followed by steak frites. The tenderloin steak was marvelously tasty and tender in a green peppercorn sauce. The fries were the best I have ever eaten. Dessert was warmed apples with vanilla ice cream and house-made caramel sauce. My wife had a tasty zucchini salad followed by roast chicken and potatoes. The servers were amazing. We also met the gracious Paul Bert himself. The waiter suggested some wines by the glass which perfectly matched the first two courses. We finished with an Armagnac and calvados after dinner drink. Did I mention the enormous wine list? It is worth perusal.
Be the first to ReplyGet your rognons here!
No trip to Paris is complete without eating both oysters and rognons. Here is where to come to get your rognon fix. This is a very cosy bistro where lots of locals come to eat. The menu is short and classic, the wine list extensive and fantastic. We started with the asparagus (currently in season) and the pork terrine. Others in my party had the steak in pepper sauce whilst I went the rognon route. Beautifully tender served in a great sauce and silky mashed potatoes. Leave room for cheese - you get a ton of it, whilst you wait for the soufflé. And the best bit, it’s incredibly good value. Don’t miss it.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food in a very Paris Cafe
We had lunch here. The food was thought was really good. Staff was ok, a bit rude. Menu was tough to navigate for non native French speakers even with the help of a translation app. We had the steak in a pepper sauce that was really good and the grand maniere soufflé which was amazing!
Be the first to ReplyAverage and rude
Incredibly rude waitress; I’ve never had anything like it. My partner just wanted a starter and dessert which we were told wasn’t acceptable and we needed to order more food. We should have just walked out but we stayed. I wish we’d left as the food was incredibly average and the service rushed and rude throughout. There are million other bistros is Paris better than this.
Be the first to ReplyUnrealistic expectations?
I am completely baffled by the negative reviews of this place. We are obvious tourists, our French is minimal at best, and we went for lunch (twice!) without a reservation. Despite a bit of an eye roll at our lack of pre-planning, we were seated and served a delicious and pleasant meal. Yes, it’s noisy - popular, crowded places filled with happy people tend to be loud. French service isn’t the squat-by-the-table-my-name’s-Jason-and-I’ll-be-taking-care-of-you level of obsequiousness that you get at your local Olive Garden - it may feel impersonal but it’s brisk and professional. The food, wine, and service at Paul Bert is top quality, which is why it’s as popular as it is.
Be the first to ReplyHappy we went to Bistrot Paul Bert
We did not have a reservation but went to the Paul Bert bar next door to the restaurant about 20 minutes before dinner seating began and a lovely bar tender went to the bistro next door and ensured we had a table (it wasn't the best in the house but not the worst either). The Œuf dur mayonnaise, salade de pommes de terre was simply the best, the cod was wonderful and my husband was over the moon with his Filet de bœuf au poivre de Sarawak, frites maison. The souffle was eggy and I wasn't a fan. I was surprised when I asked for butter for my bread I was told that they had a run on it at lunch and were out .... since they are closed from 2:00 to 7:30, I would assume one could re-stock.
Be the first to ReplyVery expensive, poor quality cuisine and super expensive wines
Overall a bad experience as the restaurant was noisy, overcrowded and uncomfortable. Also most of the dishes on the menu had already finished by 9PM so we had to choose amongst the leftover alternatives. While we were 5 friends at the table, we were initially served with only 4 amuse-bouche and had to request for more to the waiter who was rushing from a table to the other. Wine was extremely expensive and the overall quality of the food was rather average and not as expected from a French brasserie. We paid 65 EUR per persons and left very disappointed. We will not go back.
