BlackSalt Washington Reviews from The Last Year
Sunday happy hour
This is one of the few restaurants in DC that has a happy hour from 4-6 pm even on a Sunday. Menu's not extensive and prices although lower than the regular menu versions are still about the same as other less expensive restaurants. Food quality however is consistently delicious and presentations is good. We had fish tacos, tuna flatbread, and crab cakes and 2 beers at $6 and $7. About $90 for two people before tip. Only thing that made this a 4 star rating is they charge a fee if you use a credit card - surprising for a restaurant of this calibre to do this as it is a practice not usually seen in the US and even overseas for the last few years.
I think the food and service were great.
The restaurant atmosphere and decor were not. For the prices they charged I would expected something nicer. Interior is in serious need of some updates..
i'm leaving only 1 star simply because of the service.
it was ridiculously slow and negligent. i came here with my family last night. the ambiance of this place is nice and upscale. we ordered the seafood tower, and it was delicious... well when it eventually did come, which took like an hour to. they were probably understaffed at the time, which is understandable, but still, a whole hour is just too long, especially since i had the hunger pangs. i also got the octopus as an appetizer. it took no less than a half hour for it to come out, and it was overcooked too, reducing the deliciousness of it. the staff didn't really show any sympathy for the slow service either, nor did they recognize how long we had to wait. even though the seafood was great, i won't be coming back here
The service was attentive and great.
We did happy hour so food was tasty. The bar had a lot of energy and they offer booth seating as well for private conversation.

Every time I got to BlackSalt I have great food, drink and great service. Next time you are in the area I recommend you stop by and give it a try
Love this place, maybe I already made a review.

I usually come for the life-changing clam chowder, but tonight, I stayed for the new pastry chef's morello cherry mousse. OMG. Have it. As consistently delicious as the main courses always are, this dessert was a standout. Huzzah!

Great food, awesome service from our service Erick! We are looking forward to returning. Thank you !!!
A reliably excellent seafood restaurant
We can always count on BlackSalt for an excellent meal. They have a wide variety of fish courses, including grilled fresh sardines (my favorite) and spectacular scallops. It's so hard to choose among their mouthwatering offerings that I often have two appetizers instead of an entrée, so I can have more variety. The service is impeccable, the ambiance promotes conversation, and the cocktails and wine list are fine also. A very dependable restaurant that also has new menu items every time we come.
Fabulous meal last night with friends.
Not rushed, not too loud, amazing Ahi tuna, wonderful service. Already looking forward to returning! Next time we will tackle a seafood tower!
Some of the BEST fish tacos I've EVER eaten! The calamari
Some of the BEST fish tacos I've EVER eaten! The calamari was delicious, and the star of the show was the ginger beer(non alcoholic) and it was so refreshing. Our waiter Will was so sweet and patient! He really knew the menu and made the experience sooooo much better. Also, I called back to get the name of the wine my mom had and they connected me to Will and he politely looked up the name on the bottle and gave it to me! EXCELLENT service
Nothing but good things to say.
A bit off the beaten track but worth the trip. We checked out happy hour right before dinner. Oysters rockefeller was excellent! Adies mussels were good. Calamari was a good portion. Drinks were good and not watered down. Staff were extremely nice and inviting. There's a fish market up front and the restaurant in the back. Not too big but intimate. Try sitting in the Cafe to have access to the happy hour and dinner menu. I will be back to try more things!
Still good food but overpriced
The food is still really good but the place has massively increased its prices to a level that is not justified by ambience (crowded, loud, sticky tables without tablecloth) and service (understaffed, manager didn’t know the difference between Sauvignon blanc and Veltliner). The 4% surcharge on any card payment (credit or debit) is outrageous. Black Salt has sadly become greedy.
Neighborhood Gem
A neighborhood gem. The food and service were impeccable! 5+ Stars. Our Server allowed us to choose our entrees from their impressive Market. The Chef prepared a perfect accompaniment with the Bluefish and John Dory. Service was knowledgeable and genuine. Excellent wine selection for all tastes. The next time we are in town, we will head straight to BlackSalt
Delicious dinner - great service
This was our first time here and we will definitely be back. Food was so good! We had a reservation for 5:00 and were able to order food from the regular menu as well as from the happy hour menu (till 6:00). Will was our waiter and he was great. We enjoyed every dish we ordered but the oyster Rockefeller, calamari, clam chowder and seafood stew stood out. We were there for over two hours and it was such an enjoyable experience.
4% charge for paying with card.
Good food, good service, but 4% added to bill for paying with card (credit or debit). Discourage this! Eat somewhere else.
Superb seafood place
Always dependable fresh fish. Lunch has similar menu to dinner so choice is quite extensive Service is efficient as well as courteous Recommend booking a table in advance
Great seafood place
Fantastic seafood and amazing service. Everything raw was super fresh and all the dishes were immaculately prepared. Will definitely visit again!

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
