Don't be old going to Boulud Sud.
They gave my wife and myself the same lousy table twice. We demanded to be moved the second time and ironically sitting next to Danny DeVito's table. Food is impeccable, service good but service to older people abominable. On the way out, Daniel Boulud looked at me and didn't acknowledge that I just patronized his restaurant. You want good food and phony people come here.

The food here is certainly tasty, but I'm not sure it's the best high-end Mediterranean fare that I've had. The cocktails were delicious as well as the Mezze. The ambience here is a more traditional vibe, so I'd definitely ensure that's the feel you're seeking. It appeals more to the pre-theater crowd. The service was wonderful, but a very formal experience.
Be the first to ReplyNice venue for special occasions.
We dined here for my father's birthday and they truly made the occasion special witn exceptional service. I ordered the bavette steak which complimented the wine the sommelier ordered quite well Nicd ambiance, decent food, exceptional wine, tasty desserts (not pictured but tasty)
Be the first to ReplyThis is perhaps my 3rd time at Boulud Sud.
We are fortunate to live nearby. This was a birthday dinner. The 5 of us ordered 2x the sea bass, the wagyu bavette, the cabbage mejadra, and the scallops. We also had a mezze plate, and a side order of "patatas bravas", and some sorbet/ice cream. We ordered one of the less expensive wines, a St. Emilion. It was quite good and exactly as described by the waitress. (I picked it out, but she was very knowledgeable about their wine list). The mezze plate, which sounds like it could be similar as one would find at a kebab joint, was quite good, and quite unlike anything one would find at any kebab joint, and even better than Laser Wolf's. The bavette was extremely tender and buttery. The cabbage mejadra was quite interesting. The scallops were fresh and well prepared. Service was there when we needed it but out of sight otherwise. And Boulud Sud has one of he more pleasant dining rooms in NYC. Please be advised that this is not the adjacent Bar Boulud, and a much nicer experience overall.

There's something new at Boulud Sud, and it isn't to my taste, so to speak. In the old days, we would make a reservation in the back, order á la carte, and make it easily to the theater. Now, only their three course fixed price (before upcharges) menu is available in the back, so we ended up hurrying through the meal instead of enjoying it. We could have had the á la carte menu in the walk-in only front, but before the theater I want an old fashioned, guaranteed reservation. I hope they go back to the old way, reservations and á la carte in the same meal, because Boulud Sud has been a mainstay for us over the years. We'll take a six month break, then try again to see if I they see it my way.

Although the food was as usual quite good, service was mediocre and slow. The staff was not attentive to our needs. The seating was poor: the chairs had no real cushion. One felt like sitting on a wooden bench! It is unfortunate that the restaurant has lost some of its quality.

Nothing like a daytime meal by the sidewalk over its well portioned light fare paired with fitting wine on a good weather day. You are transported to Europe :) Evening dining in the dining room is like any good, polished '$$$' restaurant. I would go there for general fine dining but wouldn't call it out as remarkable or strikingly differentiated beyond a point for its price point.

Every dish was absolutely delicious! My favorite although very simple was the chicken mousse. Laura was very knowledgeable of the proper wine pairings and the staff was very professional. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a 5 star dining experience^ ^

This is one of Chef Boulud's places and it lives up to their general standards. Here, the food is Mediterranean style and uniformly delicious. The chicken tagine is off the charts. The grapefruit dessert is amazing. Excellent wine list and bar. The setting is handsome, open, does not feel at all crowded, and not noisy. The staff is, in our experience, always attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. This is a place to go if you are planning to attend a performance, but better if you can enjoy a more leisurely meal. Dress to match a special restaurant.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful price fix meal prior to the ballet at Lincoln Center. I had the pasta starter which was perfectly cooked followed by the Seabass. My husband loved his slow roasted stake and the amazing grapefruit dessert. We hope to be back next year.

I'm going to get right into it and rave about the grapefruit givre. I almost always get some form of chocolate dessert because it rarely disappoints. The grapefruit givre was not even on my radar, but I'm so so glad that I veered from my norm. It was amazing. Amazing! I can't even describe all of the floral notes, sweet and sticky, cold and refreshing layers. Do people know about this and never told me? I dream about this dessert and will come back for that as my main course. Boulud Sud is located across from Lincoln Center. Nice ambiance. Pre fixe 3 course dinner Tues - Sat 5-7pm is reasonably priced at $75...for a fancy place. Many vegetarian options for my meatless bffs. The dishes are not all winners, some are finger licking food and some less memorable, but overall solid.

Amazing food that's worth the Michelin star! Friendly staffs were great as well. I love all the spots with the Boulud name, and wish "Cafe Boulud" is still open because we had a such unforgettable experience there. But this one on UWS is also great and right in our neighborhood

Wonderful service!! The three course meal was really nice but some of the foods were disproportionally small between us

We were delighted that Boulud Sud survived the pandemic and found, upon our return, that the high standards we came to expect were still in place. We had delicious food, a highly enjoyable wine, and a wonderful evening. The dining room at Boulud Sud is lovely and energetic, without being noisy and instrusive. Service is graceful and unassuming, though the staff are on top of every need. Absolutely first-rate experience!
Be the first to ReplyWife and I always have a great time here.
..we keep coming back as one of our neighborhood favorites.A bit pricey, but we'll worth it! A culinary experience with an old world/classy atmosphere/setting. Well done Daniel Boulud.
Be the first to ReplySO and I had the Valentine's Day menu here last night.
The menu had some breadth, was clear and organized. We shared everything as courses were delivered. For appetizers: the tortellini was savory with a bit of caviar for an added touch and the tuna carpaccio was well dressed and flavorful. For entrees, the sea bass was very tasty and had a nice, crispy skin. The New York strip was perfectly cooked and very satisfying. For dessert, the grapefruit and assorted ice cream topped off a great evening at Boulud Sud.Bottom line, the service was attentive and food was enjoyable to eat. Have always enjoyed our dinners here and will continue coming back!

Came with two girlfriends for Winter Restaurant Week! Food/Drink: For restaurant week, the deal was a three course dinner for $60. For some items there was an additional fee. Appetizer: Octopus A La Plancha (extra fee) - definitely worth it! Octopus was perfectly cooked, and it came with more pieces than I would expect for an appetizer portion. Main Course: Seared Mediterranean Sea Bass - This was also perfectly cooked and delicious. I like the accoutrements of the carrots, wheat berries, and pistachios. My friends got their famous Moroccan Chicken Tagine, which was scrumptious as well! Dessert: Grapefruit Givre (extra fee) - Many people in the dining room got this dessert because of the presentation since it's served in the actual grapefruit. I don't love very sweet desserts, so this was perfect for my palate. The sorbet and accompaniments were a great end to the meal. French 64: This drink has rose gin and elderflower, so it was light and refreshing. Service/Ambiance: Service was impeccable. The decor was interesting and reminded me of a hotel lobby. You have a nice view into the kitchen and expediting window. Overall: I would come back again to sample more dishes!
Be the first to ReplyI have been here several times and loved it.
But this experience was different. The chicken and sides came at the same time and the chicken was truly raw, not underdone, Raw. (Mistakes happen). We pointed this out, and the staff was not very apologetic and acted as if we were high maintenance. They did not remove our plates with raw chicken until we asked .The sides sat on the table and got cold while the chicken was redone. No attempt to correct mistakes and the sides were not good cold. Very disappointed in what was one of my favorite places.

We were so excited to try this Daniel Boloud outpost before the Ballet at Lincoln Center. The reality is, it just wasn't special. First off, the location is perfect for a pre-event meal. The staff is impeccable. The host was so kind and lovely. The timing was perfect. The attention was great. The SOMM poured a great wine at a fair price. The food? Flavorless. It's like the kitchen ran out of salt. The highlight of the meal was the homemade whipped ricotta that came with the bread to start. Everything else was underwhelming. The ambiance? Contemporary and reminiscent of the early 2000s. The curtains were drab. The exposed screws on the window-seated radiators. Dingy. The interior just seems so tired. I've eaten at several other Boloud restaurants and I've always been impressed, but for New York? There are too many other great places to consider dining here.

Lovely, adult atmosphere with soft colors and widely spaced tables. There is an excellent wine menu. The food is mostly French with a North African touch (eg, a lovely chicken tagine), and seafood. The sardine appetizer is wonderful, served on a bed of slightly spicey onions.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, amazing sommelier, amazing staff.
Boulud Sud is a fine dining experience in every sense. I can't wait to go back.

Been here twice to celebrate birthdays and the service, food, and atmosphere are top notch. Highly recommend the octopus and sea bass. The fish here never disappoints me. Two years ago, the fried ravioli appetizer was also really good. My family is a fan of the chicken tagine dish. For dessert, you must get the grapefruit givre. There are so many different layers to this dessert and the bitter grapefruit sorbet on the bottom is so refreshing!

Came here years ago and were so disappointed to hear they closed due to covid. Now we're back and so happy to see the updates. Service was IMPECCABLE, and the food was delicious, light and had in season offerings. Overall we were really impressed and it was definitely better than last time (summer 2019). We came for restaurant week but will definitely be back!

Updating my review because this restaurant has consistently been the best place to eat on the UWS. I recently had another wonderful meal here before an opera at Lincoln Center. Amazing sea bass! Love the texture, flavor and the way it's cooked, crispy skin and flaky flesh. Swiss chard and the purée elevates it even more. My mom had the flat iron steak, which is more like a short rib, it's so delicate and melts in your mouth! The mejadra side dish was mind-blowing good - made of saffron rice, lentils, dates, and almonds - a nice sweet treat. For dessert, we enjoyed the chocolate and caramel lingot. The wine was fantastic - we had two glasses of red - the clos fornelli.Excellent service. Couldn't be more pleased. Will come back again and again.
