So so
Great service just good food. The waiters were very good. We had several dishes, the tomahawk, seabass, chicken. All dishes were good but not delicious.

I am a huge huge fan of this place. Sadly, because of Covid, we were stuck in Germany for the past two years and could not go. However, it's been a tradition with two dear friends to always take them for the happy hour the moment we come back. This helps us not to get to bed in the afternoon - deadly for jet lag - and was always a treat for two dear friends who usually can't go - it's simply over their budget.
So I made a reservation for 5pm happy hour on their website, stated in comments we were coming for the very same (you get seated in the bar or on the patio and not in the restaurant which is perfectly fine for us), checked in with the front lady "we are here for the happy hour" - and being led to the restaurant, which was far too fancy for the friends.
Worse, this time they saved money and insisted it was their treat. Disaster: no more happy hour. No one bothered to told us - and I really wanted to leave. Our friends insisted we stay. I know, our meal was severely over their budget but we did not want to hurt their pride because, after all the years, they finally wanted to invite us.
I stayed on water and we all skipped the starter to limited the damage. We eventually had a good time and the food was excellent as always - I had a bit of bad luck as I am allergic to certain greens and that include cucumber. I made sure the waiter knew - and still my burger had them. I did not want to make a fuss to spoil their show - it meant so much to them - even further, and ate what I could eat, which was OK.
The service was immaculate, but being told that instead of happy hour prices we were upgraded to stay in the restaurant with the bar menu and get a free treat of fries really did not go well with me.
I am sorry, but I was very disappointed, particularly since this is the end of a ten year tradition and possibly 50 visits for the same reason.

Until few moments I was tempted not to post this. I sent it to Michael Mina and the restaurant Manager Chris instead. The response I got was less than impressive. After all, it was my fault ;-) I will not go again.
Great, expensive and always a good meal, however...
I was invited here for the opening night of the restaurant with Michael himself however have not been back since that day years ago as Glendale is not my local hangout. That said, the most recent dinner was worth the distance through the SFV for an excellent dinner and to mark a special occasion. For ease of reading, I'll break things down as follows:
THE 'GOOD':
*I ordered the fish as I don't eat meat, shellfish and most definitely don't eat pork. The Branzino was EXCELLENT and perhaps the best I've ever had. The 12 oz fillet was very meaty and fresh and flavorful. I liked how they served it with the skin on top (and head removed) - although I don't eat fish skin, I did like how the sauces were soaking in the fish itself rather than to the skin like most places when they serve Branzino filleted with the skin down.
*The sides were incredible including a special shout-out to the Brussels Sprouts, Broccolini and Mac & Cheese. Now I wonder if they were actually vegetarian friendly.
*The bread and butter were memorable which is odd as bread typically isn't however both were filled with extreme flavor and quite yummy.
THE 'COULD USE IMPROVEMENT':
* It's an expensive restaurant (figure an easy $300 for two of you to dine here with normal courses, one glass of wine and no dessert). I, therefore, expect service to be TOP NOTCH and perhaps the best in the business however I, unfortunately, didn't experience that in my last visit for dinner. As stated above, I have food restrictions that are not difficult to manage and although the server did take the time at the start to inquire about those, there was really poor follow-through which is a problem. In an example, when they brought the fries which is complimentary at the start of your meal, I had to question twice about what they're fried in - which wound up being duck fat (um, ok?!) which is a definite no no for me. I'm used to servers taking ownership and informing me knowing my restrictions on what I should avoid eating - in this case, that didn't happen so why even bother asking if I have any restrictions.
*On a similar note, the chef uses too much animal-based fats and oils here for flavoring and therefore I would not qualify this as a vegetarian-friendly restaurant - they need to do better on that front especially in LA. (ie marking menus, better-informing servers, etc)
*My last experience had no flow to the dinner. The server went absent for a lengthy period, new floor staff approached the table with each serving (which doesn't help with information and consistency) and our bread and butter had to be requested three times, the courses came out of order at the start - overall it was too messy for a price point this high. The individuals apologized for the experience flow - one even responded that he was new and didn't know the answers although he did a great job by flagging for our (mostly absent) server to come and explain the steak sauces for my friend.
Would I return again? Yes, simply because I know Michael strives for excellence and this was perhaps just an off night during a weeknight AND the Branzino was really soooo good. Otherwise, I would prefer if they stopped down to work on training again with the staff.
Bourbon diners
This restaurant never lets you down, food and drinks always great, service excellent.
From moment we walked in everything was superb!
Delicious!
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. The lobster pot pie is of the best dishes I have ever enjoyed. From its presentation table side to every last bite it is a special treat!

I was excited to have a nice dinner with my bf visiting from Florida (I am currently on a medical contract here). The wine recommendations were amazing, wait staff great, oysters, and french fries yummy. Cut to the steaks we ordered two filets medium and medium rare.... they came out well done and some. We ended up sending them back and received a mediocre apology from who I can assume was the manager that the grill cook is stressed. I work on a covid unit in a hospital; let's talk about stress. Our second steak attempts were properly cooked but seasoning was minimal ..same applied to the creamed spinach and broccoli. Overall I was extremely disappointed in this $427 meal.

We enjoyed our drinks with appetizers at the bar. The flat iron steak and crab Mac & cheese were wonderful! Our bartender was wonderful and really made us feel like he was happy we were there. We highly recommend a drink and a snack at the bar. Outstanding
Be the first to ReplyGreat Steak House in Glendale
Have visited this restaurant twice in the last 2 months. First as a couple and second with a large business group. Both times the food was wonderful and prepared perfectly. My second visit, the service for drinks from the bar was a bit slow but the food was still great. If your in Glendale and want a great steak, this is the place for you.
