Excellent sandwiches, beautiful and wonderful food in stock, nicely styled interior, extremely comfortable and clean and well maintained place.
Be the first to ReplyAll the produce is rotting on the shelves.
Often it's moldy, and in some cases, comes with pests. I debated posting photos of moldy, rotting fruit -- but thought it to be in poor taste. Avoid. It's not the Brooklyn fare you remember.

This has been my (very) local grocery store for over a decade, and unfortunately it has taken a steep turn downhill. What was once a family-owned, excellent grocery store run by wonderful people who cared is now a Key Food with a different name. I mean that literally; they were bought by Key Food during the pandemic, and they laid off all the employees (that we loved), brought in more self-checkout, and the quality of the produce has fallen off a cliff, while the prices have climbed to extortionist levels. For the most part, the replacement staff is quite nice and usually helpful (there are a couple bad apples that seem upset you need assistance). The guys behind the prepared food counter will do a solid job on your sandwich, and the cashiers are usually pleasant and almost always efficient. They still have a rewards program where if you spend around $250 and you get like $10 credit. (Hey, it's better than nothing.)The expansion of the store a few years back means they truly have just about everything, and the beer and ice cream selections are actually phenomenal (but overpriced). However, produce we buy is occasionally going bad already, and the prices are wildly out of control. I paid $7 for two onions last week. It becomes harder and harder to justify shopping here when it's more expensive than Fresh Direct, and vastly more pricey than the fruit and vegetable spots a few blocks away. I don't risk the meat and fish any longer (not with Paisanos and Fish Tales in the hood), although Bell & Evans chicken is quite reliable. Basically, Brooklyn Fare went from an incredible market to have across street to a last-resort for items I forgot to purchase elsewhere in the neighborhood, at reasonable prices. They know we're coming in when we need something, and we're going to pay for it.Despite these shortcomings, it's still great to have a corner store that has just about everything. I can still run out and grab some milk for my wife's cookies when I've finished the last drop and she looks particularly stabby. But it's going to cost $7 for half a gallon.

Excellent selection and variety, and a good place to get a sandwich for lunch , the sandwich preparers are friendly ,fun, and professional Highly Recommend!
Be the first to ReplyIt is the worst store for making deliveries.
I ordered produce for delivery at 4:45 pm and when I contacted them at 8:40 pm, they said that they weren't going to do the delivery today, but tomorrow. The woman who answered the phone was very rude and claimed that the store wasn't going to do the delivery. How do you order something for delivery, but they do whatever they want?
Be the first to ReplyBUYER BEWARE: 24 HOUR RETURN POLICY WITH RECEIPT.
I am reposting from another customer as I too had the same issue. "Warning: DO NOT purchase perishables (cheese, milk) and/or any of the meats. Consistently expired, and obviously decaying. Grey Pork chops? Yuck. If you do find yourself shopping there please check all expiration dates, the safety of your family depends on it. I know I'm ranting, but I assure you I am being genuinely honest." I SECOND THESE SENTIMENTS. However, we purchased 2 items that were not expired but were obviously not stored properly or refrigerated properly and when we opened them BOTH, we found spores and decay, and clearly not good. So we actually tried to return them and they have a policy that you have 24 hours with receipt to return items. JOKE. I used to love this place...NEVERMORE.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the closest grocery store to me, so 99% of the time
This is the closest grocery store to me, so 99% of the time I stop in out of convenience. I actually get legitimately annoyed having to come here. And it's sad, because when I first moved to the area, this was a great place.First up, the woman manager might actually be the worst customer service employee I have ever encountered. I once went in to get some baking ingredients, and the discount didn't ring up at the self-service register (which, we'll get to that). She seemed extremely pissed off at me for...buying things? She had me move to a cashier, a younger guy who was very friendly. Something was up with the register, and it took a little longer than expected. Not a big deal. The manager was berating the employee, literally telling him he was ruining her day and that he was an idiot. She's also always working, looking pissed off and mouthing off to the staff. I get that customer service is awful (I've worked my share of service jobs), but I don't know, maybe consider a different career if you can't even treat your staff members with respect?Management aside, the prices here on some things are actually offensive. I get that inflation is crazy at the moment, but Brooklyn Fare is price gouging to the point where "we're a local store!" is a complete BS excuse. $7.50 for a package of Oreos? $9 for a standard package of butter? $7 for eggs? When the other stores in the area are selling these things for almost HALF the price, you're absolutely insane if you think it's acceptable to charge people that much money. The self-service checkout doesn't ring up discounts half the time. After entering my phone number (for the store reward points) for nearly a year, I was surprised to learn that...those points were never added to my account.I've also routinely found things on the shelf that are expired. For a store whose ONE JOB is to sell groceries, it can't seem to do anything right.
Be the first to ReplyDuring Covid Brooklyn Fare was acquired by Key Foods.
They quickly replaced staff and management. It went from a great neighborhood grocery store with an awesome staff to a dump overnight. The new Brooklyn fare is mismanaged, unfriendly, disorganized, an overpriced mess. Warning: do not purchase perishables and/or any of the meats. Consistently expired, and obviously decaying. Grey Pork chops? Yuck. If you do find yourself shopping there please check all expiration dates, the safety of your family depends on it. I know I'm ranting, but I assure you I am being genuinely honest.

I used to work here as a cashier I loved some of the customers very chill and very good and fun employees. Everything in Brooklyn fare is good is just some customers that are not patient and slow and dumb giving the workers a hard time especially the crack heads and the people that try to rob like if you broke just say that Stores closes at 9:00 but doors from the entrance closes at 8:50 by then when it's 9:00 it would be ready to close at the right time but later on it's supposed to start closing at 10pm
Be the first to ReplyOnce and never again.
The best description I can come up with is "Cracker Barrel with an upscale ambiance". Pros:* bacon was great!* cold brew coffee was also great!* servers were friendlyCons:* biscuits and "country" gravy were awful. The gravy had this lemon flavor, more like Hollandaise sauce, and nothing like country gravy. I need to either rename the dish or change the recipe. * Hale the hazelnut, maple pancakes looked amazing, but that's where it ended. It tasted like it had been soaked in lard and had this up for powering fatty taste. * on the flipside of the service quality, when we told our waiter we didn't like our dishes, he did nothing about it. Aside from this, he should've seen that we barely touched our food.
Be the first to ReplyI do not recommend this place out of health concerns alone.
On four separate occasions, I have purchased meat or seafood labeled with a following week sell-by date. Each of those times, the meat was well past spoiled with at least 4 days left on the sell-by period. This was not an isolated incident. It's like they get their deliveries and let them sit in a hot store room for a couple of days before putting them in the refrigerator. Someone is going to get sick because this is clearly a pattern and nothing is being done about it.

The staff is very rude and consistently want everyone out well before they close. This is a neighborhood grocery store, very small, and it often takes less than 5 minutes to get what's needed and check out. If they close at 9 and one shows up at 8:45, it's very feasible to be out by 8:50. I was followed by a woman who I understand to be the manager who muttered at me to "step down" to the register. I asked for a few moments to get the items that I intended to purchase and was treated like a criminal. I'm very sorry that you're tired; if you want to close at 8:30, change your hours.

Good place, great selection of a broad range of products, from interesting beers and ciders, to personal toiletries. For a non-local the store's physical depth and labyrinthine aisles was pretty cool, given its small appearance from the street.Helpful staff and a better, fresher, nut selection (Brazils, Hazelnuts in my case), than another market not far away.
Be the first to ReplyI've been shopping at Brooklyn Fare since it opened in
I've been shopping at Brooklyn Fare since it opened in 2009, and after more than 30 years living around the corner, the store was a game changer for me. Shopping there during the pandemic continued to be convenient and safe. Then came the day in April or May when the normally orderly and friendly check-out stations -- owing the the faithful and committed staff and manager -- were all gone. In their place, an over-dressed hostess and a very tall security guard. It's alienating, complicated, and upsetting to shop there now. I don't care how many ways you rearrange the store, it's not better, and it's not better because it is no longer staffed by the people who made the store what it was. It is no longer Brooklyn Fare. Call it something else, and team who were our neighbors for so long. It's a bad vibe.

Gotta be honest, it took me a while to appreciate Brooklyn Fare. It's cluttered and the aisles are tight, plus you're always dodging the workers who seem to be restocking into perpetuity - not a recipe for a stress-free grocery shopping experience. However, Brooklyn Fare proved to be clutch and absolutely essential during the pandemic, and I now will always have a soft spot for it.While so many stores were struggling to keep basic items on the shelves, Brooklyn Fare was abundantly stocked during the worst point for the country. Fresh meat, herbs, and veggies, dried/canned goods, beeeeeeeeeer - they had it all. The floor-to-ceiling inventory they keep on hand for many items probably helped, but I was truly grateful for this store. Times are fortunately (mostly) back to normal now, but I still go to Brooklyn Fare for the essentials. It's not perfect by any means (make sure to check expiration dates), but they have just about everything you need and then some. I am grateful for it.
Be the first to ReplyI have been shopping at Brooklyn Fare since it opened in
I have been shopping at Brooklyn Fare since it opened in Brooklyn. I loved the store, and I particularly loved the staff who worked there. Something has happened--a change in ownership?--and ALL the former staff are now gone; they have installed self-serve (to eliminate all of those employees?); and it's losing its feel as the best neighborhood, Brooklyn-owned grocery. I never minded the price of things, but I sure do resent the ways in which the management obviously treated their employees (it took but 2 months for ALL of them to depart).

NOBODY SPEAKS ENGLISH! I was looking for xanthan gum for my recipe so I directed myself to one of the guys with the Brooklyn fare shirts to ask for help and they don't understand what you are saying.. They walked me towards the seafood manager (Great guy) which helped me find xanthan and a few other things I needed to finish my shopping. Guys at the seafood section are willing to help you out and that seafood manager is very welcoming! Their black tiger shrimp is also very good.

They just recently changed ownership (as of early 2021) and so far everything I have purchased, aside from chips and soda has expired or gone bad. They even managed to mess up vanilla ice cream, I opened it up and it's brown. It's such a shame because it was the best grocery store in the neighborhood. Do not go here unless absolutely necessary and make sure to check your expiration dates.

This store used to be amazing until it was taken over by new management a few months ago. Now everything and I mean everything ive gotten from there recently has been spoiled. Everything from kale to peanut butter has been uneatable on a regular basis. So sad how much this place has gone down the drain.
Be the first to Replyfor whatever reason the manager there has their security
for whatever reason the manager there has their security follow you, I understand people go there and steal but you cant treat everyone the same , totally uncomfortable. You go to the deli my main problem is employees having their cells all the time touching their cells and then not changing their gloves. Not all but some. They don't pay attention to what I'm requesting so many times i get home and i get something totally different. So glad George is back the only time i wll order anything from the deli. I stopped buying meat also . This is a good emergency stop but not a every day supermarket . Please trained your employees in the deli on how to handle food more properly without having their cells on their hands and not changing their gloves every time they touch something is not food i seen it too many times in this supermarket.
