Well known and loved bakery. This visit was a bit dissapointing
This is a bit out of the way from downtown if you are visiting Vancouver. It’s worth it if you get lucky and get a nice warm croissant fresh from the oven. We got there shortly after opening. However, the croissant was cold. I saw some in the back on cooling trays, so maybe ask for one of those next time. Asked for butter and they wanted to charge me for it. Fortunately a manager said it was ok to give with Croissant… but the butter was nearly frozen. So, I didn’t get the warm croissant with soft butter experience that I went back for. Too bad. Good coffee, bought a loaf of bread. Next time, I will need to be more specific about warm croissant and have them warm up the butter.
Be the first to ReplyYummy Breakfast with French feel good vibes
My hubby and I had breakfast here this morning. I had the Croque Monsieur which was so unbelievably delicious that I am going to go for this treat as a regular thing. It's open faced style with a thick wedge of their fresh baked bread, topped with some of the very best ham I have tasted, topped with a delicious light, airy and cheesy souffle, yes I said, SOUFFLE, and topped with a deliciously unctuous runny egg. Beautiful! Best breakfast EVA!! We are locals but we have been to France many times, as we have been to Europe countless times. So saying this was one of the best breakfasts I have had is really saying something. All of this deliciousness was only 13.50 CAD. Mmmmm, good! Sitting there we really felt like we were on vacation somewhere in France. The French vibes are pretty real. Fior those that haven't been, this place does everything top notch, so you can't go wrong. They sell breads, and pastries, but also in house made hummus Olives, salad dressings etc. They also sell vinegars n teas n everything French. It's a fabulous shop. Check it out for yourself!
Be the first to ReplyA sweet little French-inspired cafe that’s always busy
A really lovely French-inspired cafe playing Thievery Corporation, Federico Aubele, and Bebel Gilberto, part storefront selling kitchen wares and jarred goods, part coffee shop with breakfast (croque monsieur, quiche, etc.) and sandwich/salad options. Some ready made sandwiches, fruit/yogurt cups and charcuterie (olives, cheese, hummus, bread, etc.) to go. Often a long line to get in but it goes super fast. Is it flawless 5 stars? No but still pretty darn good, I wouldn’t travel out of your way to come here but if you’re in the neighbourhood, I would definitely come here for a casual breakfast or lunch and take in the vibrant neighbourhood feel.
Be the first to ReplyWhere's the bread?
When this bakery first opened, it was a marvel. The pastries were delicious and the breads varied, yummy and good to freeze. The pandemic hit, and so I'm not sure if the changes that have taken place are a consequence of this or if some "consultant" advised them how to operate. So, not only is this bakery/cafe closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but bread is only available Thursday through Sunday. So if you want to buy bread, you need to plan in advance. Vancouver deserves a better, more sophisticated approach to the concept of "bakery". I guess selling one or two pastries is more profitable than selling a loaf of bread. Call me dissatisfied. In addition, it's very odd to see staff working in such close quarters where some are masked and others are not. How safe is that?

A lovey memory of our honeymoon in Paris, and all the amazing French food. Thrilled to find a local place

Great for brunch, lunch and more. Have their soup, sandwiches and pastries. Take some bread on the way out or get new condiments well curated.

If you feel like sick of visiting places which look like each other, this place is to destroy the vicious circle. From interiors to the market products, it has its own style and gives you the feeling of having a different experience. The only missing piece is free wi-fi. Other than that you can feel yourself as part of the neighbourhood and relax with the locals. Delicious bakery, home-made market products, some kitchen ware and gurme tastes. Will worth the try.
Be the first to ReplyA taste of Paris in Vancouver
At recommendations of people who sat next to our table, we tried Batard Boulagerie Cafe for brunch today and were delighted that the French style cafe was close to what we experienced in Paris. I had the quiche rose, a thick piece with shrimps and salmon on a delicious crust and a tossed salad and my husband had soup de jour (a creamy and thick tomato soup with lentils, corn) and the traditional croque batard, with a free-range egg baked on a thick slice of bread with rosemary ham and topped with aged cheddar and parmesan. All were delicious but we could not finish so we will have a lovely snack later today or tomorrow.

We buy their wonderful bread on the west side and then discovered from where it came. Finally we drove by for lunch. Their cakes looked good but we decided on sandwiches. My wife had a nice with feta etc.. I had the beef dip which was very disappointing with very overdone thin beef and average jus. The ficelle as expected was great. I think we have visited but no need to run back, although their bread remains important to us, mainly to go with cheese.
