Great food/pricey bottles
Well curated menu where they do almost everything exceptionally well. Pate de campagne was excellent, and not the slapped together disjointed excuses for pate I've had elsewhere. Hamachi was fresh and delicately flavored. Bread was fresh baked and wonderful. Entrees were generous and exquisitely prepared. The pork was outstanding -- tender and moist with a richly flavored sauce. The duck was equally tasty, with a great spiced skin. Chocolate pistachio brest was a glorified eclair -- ok but not special. Luckily the sublime cheese course more than made up for it, with great goat and sheep recommendations from our very able server. Only disappointment was the trophy wine list which was meant more for admiring than ordering. Very few reds under $100 (i.e. less than 5% of the list) and the one we got was fine but not close to worth the three digit tag. Stick to cocktails and glasses unless someone else is paying. Wine aside, a great, leisurely, well paced evening with fine service and terrific food.
Be the first to ReplyThe worst Michelin starred I went in over 50 years
It was so bad it became a joke. Rude waiters (but a nice and smiley busboy), over one hour and 15 minutes wait between appetizers and entrées with no apology from the manager, and an absolutely uninteresting food (I took the crab with tasteless meat and too pungent sauce, and the exact same comment for the pork). It is a mystery to me how they could keep a star. Last trivial detail. No toilet seat in the only toilet. I was broken!
Be the first to ReplyClassic French Burgundy
Dinner at Batard in New York City is a classic experience. It is basically a French burgundy restaurant and for the most part 95% of the wine list is French burgundy which is one of the main reasons we went. Our 1st dishes were Russian caviar and Country pate both excellent and paired with a Chassange Montrachet from the Drouhin vineyards. We also had classic duck and Dover Sole that were perfectly prepared and further prepared at table side. We were pretty full so passed on dessert though the dessert menu looked good. We were pleased with our meal understanding that it was very expensive. In general you can't go to a top restaurant in New York and get a bottle of wine under $250, there are a few but truly most ones that you would want are gonna be about $250 regardless of where you go which adds to the bill. Batards prefix menu was reasonably priced the only reason we had a higher bill is that we pretty much ordered everything with a supplement.. I recommend Batard and would go back.

We had the pleasure of dining at Batard this evening with Jed as our server who was such a charismatic and well informed gentleman. Food was amazing from start to finish. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyMichelin star French restaurant
Michelin star French restaurant. Choice of 2 or 3 plates per menu. Truffle shavings offered as additional. The frisée salad was a must, the egg was perfectly cooked. Our favorite entree was the duck, very crispy and pink in the center. Amazing experience! Ambience was tranquil, great for couples or small groups. The service was very quick. Prices are high.

Food was absolutely DELICIOUS! We had a 7 pm reservation and chose the three course selection. While a wine pairing is not officially offered, we asked and the Sommelier, Robert, did not disappoint. I am not typically a wine drinker, but the flavors of the pairings were exquisite! My only wish was that the ambient noise could be better controlled. I could not hear our server nor the descriptions of the wines.

I made a reservation with Batard in NYC on Sunday via open table. When I showed up at the restaurant, they did not honor the reservation. They told me that they don't accept same-day reservations. They then lied to open table and told them they seated me when they did not. Appalling behavior and huge incompetence.

Had a great meal here. Food was delicious. We do not live in NYC. Had Arctic char, not the best I have ever had but not too far from it.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Service and Cuisine!
My sister and I popped by Batards before a show, did not know to make a reservation and they were completely booked, but the host squeezed us in at the bar which was comfortable and gorgeous. We were treated just as well as though who made reservations. The bartender (and our server) was so knowledgeable and friendly, made great recommendations s and took her time to explain the drink and dinner menu. We had four courses and each was better than the last. Exceptional quality, fine ingredients, and A+ for chef artistry! The drinks were off the charts too! Will defiantly be back! Also a great value for what you are served, well worth it for the whole experience!
Be the first to ReplyMemorable meal, though not Michelin star-worthy
My family and I were super excited to dine at Bâtard. The meal started off very nicely. The salad lyonnais was delicious and authentic, reminding me of the incredible one I had in Lyon during my study abroad days. My dad ordered the caviar, which was superb and a special tasting experience. Unfortunately, my duck entrée was less-than-stellar. I had very high hopes for this dish, but the meat was quite chewy and tough. I’ve honestly had much better duck at a cheap Chinese restaurant. Dessert, luckily was fantastic. Overall, it was a very good meal minus the main course. I don’t think this place deserves a Michelin star but it certainly is a quality restaurant with good food, friendly/knowledgeable staff and a pleasant ambience

The food is superb. I repeat: superb. My wife and I shared four courses (part of a good deal they construct) and they were all excellent. The foie gras with ginger crumble melted in your mouth; certainly, one of the best we’ve ever had and we’ve had a lot. Both the duck and halibut were perfectly cooked and the sides were impeccable. We finished with a blackberry peach trifle that, as my sister-in-law would say, was to die for. Service was very professional. Unfortunately, tables are too close together and I think if it is crowded at the two-top row, you’d be closer to your neighbor than the person sitting across from you. And it will be very noisy. The owner, Drew Nieporent, stopped for a minute to chat with us. We ordered wines by the glass; the wine list is very extensive and expensive.

I'm working my way through NYC one-star Michelin restaurants, and this one did not impress.
It started out good.
I had avocado - cucumber soup and my husband had salad, both beautifully presented and very flavorful. My husband's chicken was also beautifully presented, tender, and juicy.
My duck entree, however, was very disappointing. The presentation was not Michelin level, the flavor was unremarkable, it had a thick layer of fat (judging from other photos, that's how they serve it), the skin was sprinkled with ground pistachio nuts, but the skin was inedible as it wasn't crisp at all. Worst of all, there was a vein running through the meat, which was too chewy and inedible. When I make chicken tenders at home, I always cut out these vein, and I would think the kitchen should have done the same. The accompanied beets were overwhelmed by yogurt, and the duck confit ball had a very strong taste, although it was the best tasting morsel on the plate. The waiter came over to inquire how my first bite was, as I did only take one bite then, so I said that was fine. He really should have waited until I tasted everything on the plate or, at least, took two bites!.
My dessert, the rhubarb galette, was mediocre at best, and the chocolate desert the diners on my right and left ordered was too rich according to them. On either side, they only ate a third of their desserts.
So I'm giving it three stars for the appetizers and the chicken, otherwise, it would have been one.
Went here for my wife’s birthday.
Went here for my wife’s birthday. Had many hiccups in service and food quality. Piss all over the men’s loo. Could hear the manager yelling at his staff on multiple occasions. Raised these issues with manager who literally THREW my credit card in my face and gave me his card so I could get his name right in my bad review. Never in my life have I experienced this. Maybe normal in NYC? Highly unlikely I will return.

Be the first to ReplyOne of my lifetime favorite
We went there for my 36 year old birthday. On monday, you can bring your own bottle of wine, so we jumped on the occasion to try this 1 michelin star restaurant.
It was the highlight of this second trip to NY city.
Everything was good and amazing. Our server was really sympathic and helpful.
Every dish were perfect and we took one more at the end just because.
We brought a 30$ us cabernet that we drink at home regularly, and they never judge us on our choice. They made us really comfortable. It was important for us because it's not everyday that we could afford a dinner like this and we all know that some restaurant make you feel that you're out of the league as you enter their restaurant. It wasnt the case for Le Bâtard.
Oh the sauces!
If you want an excellent meal, Batard is the place to go. It's a comfortable restaurant with modern design. Tables are spaced nicely with plenty of room. The food is wonderful, plated well with the most amazing sauces. The carrot cake is on the top of the "best" list. The staff is friendly and helpful. West Broadway south of Canal St. is a little bit out of the way, but worth the trip. It is expensive.
Be the first to ReplyA Don’t Miss In NYC!!
I have been going here for years and sending people here for years. The food is amazing !!! We hosted 16 people for a client dinner. They are all foodies and were absolutely raving about their meals! Not one unhappy person. Adam and chef went out of their way to take care of our group. It was one of my top restaurant meals in the past year. Ambience is romantic and chic it’s a don’t miss in nyc!
