Holy Moly! This Mississippi girl was invited by co-workers to go try Burma Love. I have never had Burmese food, but being open to most flavors and also loving Thai, I figured Why Not?! I. Am. So. Thankfu! All of us were new to this restaurant, and all of us were adventurous, so we chose a few items on our own but also allowed or server to provide suggestions to make a complete meal. When I say EVERYTHING was delicious, I mean it. Not one dish wasn't completely balance, full of flavor, and had an explosion of textures. Things we ordered: 1. Tea Leaf Salad: dear heavens THIS IS A MUST (I am going to try not to say that to every dish I will list) but this is most definitely a must. The flavors and the textures in this dish did quite a dance on my taste buds. There wasn't a single person who wasn't in love with this dish 2. Platha dip - For me, it was like chicken stew and it was served with what they call "buttery, layered bread" that is like naan. I literally called dibs on the last of this dish and ate it with the spoon that was provided. Would have licked it clean if I was in the privacy of my own home 3. Pumpkin Pork Stew: Tender pork shoulder cooked with Kabocha squash, onion and garlic - This looked the most unappealing to the eyes, but what it lacked in visual pleasure, it completely made up for in taste. This was divine 4. Coconut rice: This was topped with some fried onions - also a must for all the other dishes we had to soak up all the delicious flavor. 5. Fiery Roasted Vegetables: Five spiced tofu wok-tossed with basil, string beans, red bell pepper, and your choice of protein. - We did NOT add a protein to this. I am not a huge fan of tofu, but this was one of my absolute favorites and a must for sides when ordering. The burst from the red peppers with the spicy tofu and beans was perfect. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it 6. GARLIC NOODLES: (A Chinese influenced dish sold from wooden pushcarts throughout Burma. Egg noodles with fried garlic sprinkled with scallions, fresh onions served with house sweet and spicy sauce - we added Shrimp to ours. The sauce that is served in a cup on the side is not spicy. Since all of us were okay with it, we went ahead and combined the sauce completely with the dish. This was food for 4 and we nearly ate all of it. Very reasonably priced considering the quality of the food we ate. I would highly suggest a reservation as we BARELY made it in and to a table to eat even on a Wednesday night. This was an unbelievable experience and due to its close proximity to one of my office headquarters, I can promise you I will literally eat here every time I am in SF. You will not be disappointed.
