Burnt Ends Singapore - Buy Reservations

Burnt Ends is no newcomer to the fine dining albeit avante garde, scene in Singapore !
With its recent induction, into the Top 50 of Asia’s Best Restaurants , it’s become the burning desire of many more to dine there - whenever a table is available!
My dining experience didn’t fall short of past expectations; in fact it was more memorable this time!
The food - one is spoilt for choice- plus the attentive but not overbearing service would be every diner’s dream!
Despite being cautious when ordering- we couldn’t resist the array of small bites - of which my favourite was toast, tomatoes and lardo! The crab legs served with butter / lemon / capers was a exceptional “ fish entree “; followed by the grilled lamb chops and
200 gm Blackmores Striploin, which would have sufficed!
But we had to succumb to the Sanger; and Bone Marrow Bun; Chocalate Fondant plus the petit fours comprising Marshmallow; Financiers; Pate de Fruit etc
So we were satiated - gleefully!
Truly a meal “ par excellence “ !

Let’s start with the positives. The Grissini and Taramasalata was a nice way to start the meal. The Eggplant and Miso was also good. The Burnt Ends’ Sanger was the highlight of the meal and meets the hype. Some of the staff are nice and friendly. Now the negatives. The Jamaican Chicken and Lime Crema was a joke. One chicken wing trimmed and cut in half with very little seasoning, relying on the heavily flavored lime crema to mask the patheticness of the chicken. The Fennel, Orange and Burrata doesn’t work. All three ingredients were tasteless and did nothing as a combination. The Butterhead Lettuce, Shallots and Vinaigrette is just a side and not touched by fire. Took a few months to make the reservation. The website is a joke. If you choose to go, and you will because of the hype, choose the main dining area. We were seated right next to the big fire cooker and it was hot and noisy with the staff shouting, and you get to see things that are best unseen. Staff not wearing their masks properly, adjusting them constantly, checking their mobile phones, and then touching everybody’s food. Anyway, business is great so no need to change a single thing.

Waited forever to get a reservation and in the interim I have eaten at both of their Meatsmith outlets
To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly
On arrival the restaurant has no signage so finding it can be a chore
Inside it was exceptionally hot due to the ovens
The open kitchen is vastly overpopulated and silent and slow.
The charged for water from a carafe I hesitate to say it was tap water but the suspicion is there.
The food was tiny portion and I mean postage stamp sized
The smoked quails egg was ok but its one quail egg
The Jamaican chicken was two postage stamp sized pieces of rather soft tasteless chicken. Having eaten Jamaican chicken several times this was not Jamaican chicken
The pork belly was a long narrow strip and there was no crisping on the rind and it was pretty tasteless save for just smoke.
The striploin was a tiny piece of meat 180g for $126. It was OK at best. I asked if it came with anything and the rather condescending waiter said "afresh salad, we don't serve potato products!" Why? in case people get enough to eat ?
It came with an egg cup full of salad, mainly raw onions
The desert was ok but smoked ice cream ?? It tastes like kippers
Wine list big but very pricey a 2017 NSW Shiraz viognier blend at $270.
The petit fours - they charged for ... Odette and numerous higher starred restaurants don't do that. When you drop an item on a customers table which they haven't ordered the assumption is it is gratis. Not here its not
Overpriced overhyped and I wouldn't in all conscience recommend it

Finally had a chance to get a reservation at this restaurant! Was it worth the wait- I would say yes! the people are amazing and of course the food is fantastic. It was a good experience and definitely will come back for another one!
