🤢 2/5 - Best to Avoid

We had heard online and anecdotally from acquaintances that this was the place to go in Atlantis for a nice dinner (even more than Nobu). This was inaccurate at best. The atmosphere of Cafe Martinique has the feel of something nice, but the food very much does not. We went for a dinner as a late-anniversary treat. For what it's worth, the place was nearly empty at 8pm in a very large space. We weren't necessarily expecting much given our overall experience at Atlantis but were hoping for at least something edible. The service was friendly enough but it went downhill from there. The free bread was hard and nearly stale. The mushroom ravioli appetizer was a single largish piece of pasta with some kind of sauce poured on. Both under seasoned and not particularly flavorful otherwise. The mushroom filling had an odd gritty texture and the pasta itself was tough to get through even with a knife. The recommended snapper entree was something to behold. A single piece of fish breaded almost like a cafeteria fish stick with some kind of thick gloppy yellow sauce drizzled around it and the plate in zigzags. It came with a mushroom butter that I wasn't sure what to do with, given the existing layer of sauce and fried breading on the fish. The butter was the most edible part of that dish. My wife had the filet ordered medium. The beef arrived butterflied in half which seemed odd, with some pink still in the middle. It was incredibly tough and chewy, and nearly impossible to get through. Not sure if this was actually filet or if so, whether the chef knew what to do with it. The beef came with a side of mashed potatoes - I also ordered a side for myself. While not quite boxed mix, there was a gluey consistency to it. We passed on dessert and hopefully avoided any kind of free anniversary "treat" we might have otherwise received. We then mercifully left, a couple hundred dollars poorer.
