French gem!
A true gem! I recently had dinner here with a friend prior to our show at BAM. Cafe Paulette is a true French restaurant that is both simple and elegant. The staff is friendly and professional and the food EXCELLENT. Our waitress Micki answered our menu questions and was able to suggest a terrific wine to pair with our dinner. The restaurant is quaint and cozy and everything is served nicely. The ambiance was also perfect with appropriate music piped in at a volume that enabled us to chat comfortably (rare these days!) I also chatted with Angelique, who was the perfect proud proprietor (I think). I will absolutely be heading back . Again, it's a gem.

I love that place, always a great experience! Food, service, area, atmosphere, everything is there! I highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyNice local place for brunch
Came here with a friend to packed place without much of wait time till we were seated. Cortado was nice, a bit too weak. He had the omlette shakshuka and enjoyed sharing it was only 'good, not amazing'. I've had the Ratatouille shakshuka which was a delight. It was baked and was served in a hot little bowl with 2 poached eggs and toasted breat, loved it. It was the perfect warm-comforting-food in a (-)14 Celsius winter day! The place was a bit noisy, but all in all we enjoyed it for roughly $60 total, tax and tip included. Enjo!
Be the first to ReplyHUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!
FRENCH WANABIES ! (Or: If I would be a restaurant critic- the place would be closed). The only French things about the place are the name on the sign and linen napkins. Pretending at it’s grandeur for the relatively food unsophisticated locals. Starting with the Menu : Since when Shakshuka is a dish of “ratatouille with eggs”? Hm….? But to be honest , a Lonely quiche took a stronghold for the “frenchness” of this joint . Another thing : No self respected French cook would serve eggbeaters as a scrambled eggs. ( even in a pretty white ceramic boat) For a hefty $18! The cherry on top , was the pepper shaker ! There was none available on the table , so we had to request. The server brought one and immediately dropped it on the floor ( by accident) Without even “ sorry!” , she slapped it on the table in front of us. I had to wipe it off with the only French item around- the linen napkin. Tourists ! Please AVOID ! Rude and food not good .
Be the first to ReplyBest seating is outdoors
Sit outdoors for best experience. Outside seating area is huge. Indoors is small and, if music is on, loud. Green salad and dressing delicious. Plating beautiful. Menu not too long. Prices not outrageous.
Be the first to ReplyClosest to Parisian Experience you can find in NYC
The entire experience this restaurant offers is amazing. My partner and I have enjoyed sitting at the bar and enjoying oysters many times. The ambience of the restaurant at night is perfect. The music and lighting makes is great for a date. The wine list is great with a lot of natural options. They have the best burger I have add in NYC (sorry Shake Shack!). The staff are great!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent French Cafe
Excellent French Cafe - walking distance to BAM. Hangar steak excellent as was fish special and cous cous. Chocolate desserts not to be missed. Excellent wines especially the Austrian red. Lovely friendly service.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic bistro food and atmosphere
We dined at this small neighborhood bistro before a show at Theater for a New Audience. Warm welcome and brisk, attentive service. Excellent French onion soup, duck confit, and moules & frites. Nice wine list. Strongly recommend. Note that their license is for beer and wine only.
Be the first to ReplyOur waitress, Khala had the worst attitude - would only return if it was her day off!
Entered the restaurant and are welcomed (or not so much) by our waitress Khala who immediately showed us, by her general attitude and face, that she would rather not be there.
When the food was delivered, only two of my friends and myself were provided our meals. I had to query where my other friend’s meal was after approx. 10 minutes. Really, all food should be delivered at the same time.
I was still eating and my friends had finished - Khala began hovering, eager to clear up the table asking me “have you finished yet?”. Obviously not?!
The most shocking aspect was the fact that, without us even asking for the bill, she came over and THREW the receipt on the table in front of me (note to manager:please see CCTV for evidence).
The icing on the cake was, when we asked to pay separately, instead of saying “unfortunately we are unable to do this, I am very sorry about that”, she said “okay, this is what we can do - I can split it twice, or put it on one card but I’m not having you all pay different amounts”.
Oh my gosh. Literally startled at this terrible woman’s behaviour - legitimately the worst waitress I have ever been confronted with. We all got to the point where we felt Khala had an issue with us as a table; it was a hugely uncomfortable situation.
You here such great things about New York waiting on service however, I personally feel London service is miles better after this experience!
Let’s just say, she had 0 tip from all of us!
On a positive, the chef was excellent as the food was delicious.
Perfect
To put it simply: we spent a wonderful evening chez Paulette as much for the quality of the dishes as for the welcome. Je recommande sans hésitation !
Be the first to ReplyLovely and very French
Wonderful downtown Brooklyn French Cafe - food was exceptional- limited choice but plenty to choose from - very traditional plates - and a wonderful cheese/ charcuterie selection
Be the first to ReplyCool place for breakfast
This place has a nice bistro ambiance and offers a classic french-style breakfast experience. Food was excellent and we'd come again.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing meal
Disappointing meal after an hour wait for a table with a reservation! Prior People just sat at table and restaurant didn’t do anything to help them along with 4 people waiting didn’t sit till 10 for a 9 reservation. They did take our wine off the bill to compensate.
When food arrived it was very average and the French fries were terrible cold and soggy especially for a French restaurant. My husbands onion soup also very average and my steak was tough. We’ve had a decent meal here before but this was really not good probably won’t be back.
